  • Awesome video!

  • My Booba used to sing this...and the tears are just flowing....

  • incomprehensible that the US denied the entry to St. Lewis...

  • as my Jewish friends say, "if we are G_d's chosen, I say, "please, choose someone else"

as for forgetting the past? who of us in this world can do that? no one - it's not possible -

  • @mspencerbenson god ur so theatralic u dint suffer things u ppl were done so be quiet

  • This song is very moving and beautifully sung by Steve Lawrence! Right now with the precarious situation in Israel and so much anti-semitism STILL in the World, this song is very important. WE CAN NEVER FORGET THE PAST!!!!

  • hum really lonely anyone up for cam chat or phone

  • One of the biggest ......

  • This song is so moving...I am saving this to share on Kristallnacht next year...Kristallnacht is on November 9th and although I am Christian, my friends and I decided to send a piece of crystal to a Jewish friend on November 9th to repent on behalf of our ancestors not doing more during the Holocaust.

  • I am not aware of versions by Nat KIng Cole or Billy Eckstine,

but I do have a version by Ray Charles in my possession.

    Have a likhtikn, freykekhn.

    Let those menoras blaze!

  • I have a strange urge to invade Palestine after that.

  • Written before WWII by Oscar Strock and S. Kortnayer, a Yiddish actor who died in Warsaw Ghetto. Johnny Mathis' version (in English) was recently re-issued on "Jewish Soul" (Hatikvah Music in Los Angeles). This compilation also has Tom Jones' "Yiddishe Mama" and Jay Black's "Vi Iz Dos Gesele," among others.

  • @KameaMedia You actually answered my question, but I also wanted to know, didn't Billy Eckstine or Nat King Cole also sing this? My dad had a 45 when I was little that we played all the time, and I'm trying to find it. But this is the song. Thank you for the info!

  • @1ster1 It looks like you been educated by marxists and other leftist bums, who brain washed you big time. You are so stupid that even facts you take as propaganda. What a waste of life. You are the good company for ahhhmedinagad and his ilk. Get lost, idiot.

  • Beautiful and emotional song and a Beautiful and heartfelt singing and performance.

Can't help but be touched (:

  • So...the U.S. denied entry to thousands of Jews seeking refuge. They were sent back and killed.

  • So...the U.S. denied entry to thousands of Jews seeking refuge. They were sent back and killed.

  • MY FATHER USED TO SING THIS IN YIDDISH & MANY MORE SUCH SONGS.

  • It never felt so good to weep and weep. And, I never felt so proud.

    Avraham

  • this song is really moving.

  • gracias por este video, y por repetirlo 2 veces...

  • i need a beer.....long live israel

  • Lest we forget!

  • Beautiful yet soooo sad and heartwrenching.....God bless the jewish people.x

  • Albie Diner is doing holy work. The visuals accompanying this poignant song demand that we remember. I was born in Brooklyn, 1942, as millions of people of my background were being slaughtered. For many years the world turned its back.. My father sang this to me when I was young. Did Sammy Davis Jr. also record this song.? Leo Fuld gave voice to the Holocaust generation and the Jewish diaspora, who have sought safe haven for millenia. Albie Diner keeps the memories alive.

  • Is very wonderful and so truth....I am very anxious and emotioned when I hear it....

    Ana Nuta

  • Shocking. Just to break the heart. May the spilled blood of these innocents be avenged.

  • Trust me, we're trying, but the Liberals in our Country are like a thorn in our side.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful tribute. My father had a similar plight a few years later on the Exodus 1947.

I recently made my own tribute to Silent Heroes. Click on my user name, 'TheRonen' just above this post to watch.

    Shanna Tova ve Metoka.

  • My god this song it's so sad and beautiful.

  • The Jewish people are the eyeapple of God.

They who blessed Israel wil be blessed, and they who cursed Israel wil be cursed.

Shalom and love to Israel, and all Jewish people.

  • @FlorienBloem777 god hates Jews, coz they killed his son. and coz of that he sent his grand crusader Adolf Hitler to clean the world of them, but forces of evil where to mighty. Our time will come! and then Israel shall burn!!!

You see its easy to affirm god would love anybody or curse anybody. this aint my opinion i dont think so. but it was just an example to show you that the things you said, can be used in the same principe against you, so better shut up.

  • @FlorienBloem777 by the way romans killed jesus.

  • @19B0N095 true dat

  • G-d bless Jewish people...

  • @mk181818

    God bless all people.

  • @sgreen71778 I pray for the victims, not predators. If you wish to honor and glorify "all people" its your choice, not mine.

  • @sgreen71778 do you wish to bless those barbarians who have murdered yesterday four including pregnant woman too? They too "all people". "All people who celebrate afterwards this horrendous act. Shame on you.

  • Thanks for the "memory from the internet". My mum too was an English Jew from North London. Her mother tooke mom and my aunt to total strangers n the country to shield them from the London bombings. They all survived, and my mom moved to the US in the 50s and married my American father. Beautiful, thank you soooo much!

I wish my mom was still around to sing for us.

  • I keep coming back to view our History, whcih we must never forget! Steve is singing about the way it was...his Cantorial training really comes through. My Father's cousin's survived Auschwitz and the March, and eventually wound up in Israel. I heard the stories straight from them in Israel....... I have not been able to purchase the CD with this song on it....

  • God bless you and your family, and the survivors. My mom survived the London bombings. This music brings sweet memories.

  • Great It tells it, How it is

  • This song was played frequently in my home when I was growing up as my parents were big fans of Steve & Eydie. We all saw them at Valley Forge, The Latin Casino, and other clubs and they always put on a great show. Those days seem to be gone forever. I think that this is Steve's best recording, but there are several others that were wonderful as well. He waa a real performer and I loved Eydie also.

  • A brilliant and moving performance!

  • This is an incredible history of my great great grandparents and half of my great grandparent's family who never made it out of Hungary during the war. Over half were killed in the camps. I have watched and listened to Steve sing this hundreds of times. Never Again.......

  • Steve, you are fantastic. Believe it or not you are related to my husbands family.

We also shared the same NY Pediatrician on Park Avenue who sadly has also passed.

  • THANK YOU for posting this beautiful song, which I never ever heard before. And done nicley by Steve Lawrence.

  • Words evade me....just tears roll uncontrollably down my cheeks....

  • Can you speak Yiddish or Ladino?

  • President Roosevelt refused to allow the St. Louis to dock. Many other countries also refused to take in these Jewish German refugees. Finally, Belgium allowed entry into their country. But it did no good. Hitler invaded them as well and most still perished in the camps.

  • Still a beautiful voice, and a very special song.

Steve's father actually painted our house when I was in my young teens. He was very proud of his talented son. And why not!

  • I am sitting listing to this poignant song with tears running down. I am a one of few in our family(Austria and Poland) who survived the Holocaust. Thank you so much.

  • We must all remember. I always associated the

    song wuth the images.

  • Never again--I hope!Beautiful song, but somebody who does not know the fate of this cursed ship would not understand from this video what has happened!

  • He can refer to the movie VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED

starring Faye Dunaway, the book REFUGE DENIED,

published by the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.. The newspaper clipping of the period with the sign KEEP OUT offers a clue. I find people are more informed nowadays.

  • Extremely moving- What a presentation with Steve's cantorial voice and the images from our past. NEVER AGAIN!!!

  • Extremely moving- What a presentation with Steve's incredible catorial voice and the images from our past. NEVER AGAIN!!!

  • It's the best of the best! He has a majestic voice! So nice lyric!

  • exelente good the best

  • Sublime con interpretacion exepcional

  • Great song by a very under appreciated talent, whose versatility ranges from this to rock 'n' roll like hits.

  • good to hear some yiddish.. it should be more used

  • And to think that there are still nutcases and criminals like Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez who dare deny the Holocaust and insult Jews in exactly the same way the nazis did. Chavez´ horrible and racist comments on Jews should be publicized all over the world to show the world what kind of monster this man is.

  • never again.....

pasajeros entrar a Cuba.

  • Phenominal!!!

How easily we forget! How good to remember the need of Israel's creation after WWII!

  • The only thought that came to my mind:

    Those SOB's

  • sTEVE'S SINGING THIS SONG BRINGS TEARS TO ONES EYES. I JUST LOVE IT.

  • This is the most touching and beautiful video and song

  • Beautiful voice. Beautiful sad song.

  • No one is going to put us into cattle cars for the East ever again. This time the sheep have claws and know how to use them.

  • wonderfull rendition on a very sad subject with fortunatly happy ending. Nt onlyAmerica`s shame but the whole world

  • Thank you for your comments. The 935 jews on

the SS St. louis had landing permits for

Cuba. When the ship reached Havana, the cuban

government refused to allow the passengers to

disembark. It is now ironic that Cuba who

refused to let the refugees enter lived to

see how Cubans themselves became refugees 20

    years after the incident.

  • So did the US. The people were returned to Germany to be killed

  • The answer is simple: measure for measure.Thank you for bringing so many beautiful pieces to many of us around the world.Up to 120!

  • 26Melvin

This is the most touching and beautiful video and song. It reminds me so much of when my mother came to this country. I thank you for my memories.

  • I have looked at those pictures over many

years and the drama depicted in them stayed

with me. And Steve Lawrence singing that song

    with that yiddish sentiment...

  • My Sear Mr Diner its very early here in Argentina but I woke up and wanted to thank you with affection for this fantstic video and interpretation Renee 725

  • Just so moving so wonderful as they our grandparents were renee 725

  • all Jews are special, as one heart.

We will leave forever, our Protector is with us.

  • May your words be inscribed in the book of eternity and may we all grow to believe it!!

  • Amen.

  • Thank you,Mr Albertdiner!

This is my favourite song! Are you like F.Kafka also?

    Am Jiszrael chai!

  • i have liked this song since I first heard

it in the 1960s. F. Kafka is a fascinating

    personality with a vivid imagination.

Yet he had many personal problems he

could not overcome. People should have a

    positive outlook on life.

  • What a wonderful document this video is! It is a historical masterpiece full of pictures that I have never seen! The song by Steve Lawrence is magnificent! God bless always the Jewish people who are the most talented and inspiring people in the world today and I suspect FOREVER!

  • Please Mr Albert Diner keep in touch with me

  • am yisrael chai

  • I haven't heard Steve Lawrence for too many years. Cannot believe the power, the tenderness, the sweetness, the timber of his voice...seems that he sure has improved with age. does anyone out there know if and when Steve and Edie are coming to South Florida

  • Yep, I agree whole heartedly! I was also at their concert at the North Fork Theater (formerly the Westbury Music Fair) on Long Island this past Saturday, November 3rd, 2007. They were fantastic! And this song was so moving. You're right about the standing ovation for this song....I got chills!!! And I'm a younger guy, being 54 years old, but am a devoted fan of Steve And Eydie. I wish I could see a video of their interview with Larry King from 2003; I've searched youtube but can't find anything.

  • I am 22 and I love them!! I was just there all three nights! AMAZING!! THIS WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG! More of an Eydie fan, yet this song def made me love STEVE!!

  • BTW: FORGOT TO GIVE A RATING. AND I RATE STEVE SINGING "WHERE CAN I GO" EXCELLENT (+10 or better). I will get the hang of it!

  • SAW STEVE & EYDIE AT NORTHFOLK MUSIC FAIR THIS PAST WEEKEND on LONG ISLAND. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. WHEN STEVE SANG "WHERE CAN I GO" it brought tears to my eyes as he was FANTASTIC and the words were amazing. Steve got one heck of a STANDING OVATION that lasted more than usual. I cannot stop playing the SONG and looking at the VIDEO. If anyone has never seen them perform in person, do not hesitate to get tickets to their show

  • I still have a few treasured 78 rpm discs of Leo Fuld, the only vocalist who sang Yiddish with a Rotterdam/Rumanian accent.

  • StTeve Larence performed this at his Westbury Concert and tore the house down! He told the audience that this was on U-Tube. Thank you for posting the recording and video.

  • I'm so happy he performed this song in concert. Wish I could have been there.

This song has been my favorite since

I first heard it in the 1960s.

  • ruim 55 jaar oud nu 128 duizend keer beluisterd in 1 maand ongelovelijk.

  • It is unfortunate that the same political and economic climate that existed in Germany, exists in our country today. Greed creates Hate and racism and leads to fascism.

  • Struma was a ship chartered to carry Jewish refugees from Romania to British Palestine On February 23, 1942, with its engine inoperable, the ship was towed from Istanbul through the Bosporus out to the Black Sea by Turkish authorities with its refugee passengers aboard, where it was left adrift. It was torpedoed and sunk within hours by the Soviets on February 24, killing 768 men, women and children, with only one survivor

I will not forget nor forgive until my dying breath

  • Thank you for informing of this tragic incident. It was the worst of times for the

    jewish people.

  • tell me who chartered the ship?

  • In 1941, a Rumanian Zionist group chartered the Struma, a 74 year old ship formerly called the Macedonia. They took on about 769 immigrants and 10 crew. The charter was later transferred to a private firm for legal reasons. The Struma set out from Constanza on December 11, its passengers crammed into a 160 foot long ship meant for 100 passengers, in bunks stacked 8 to 10 high.
