  • This is all common sense. Before the doctors put my daughter on a pump we had to take pumping classes through a Diabetes Education Center. Perhaps some States or Doctors are not a careful, but this video is very elementary to me. It's a no brainer.

There are some characteristics of a poorly controlled diabetic that would not make them a candidate for a pump. Such as someone who is very careless with his care, diet, and testing. My doctor will not prescibe a pump for a person like this.

  • fine video

  • Do all type 1 diabetics have to have GAD antibodies and/or islet cell antibodies?

  • Everyone who requires insulin from an external source is a good candidate for pump therapy. Effort does not equal A1c. Most pump users I know, like me, had A1c's above 12 and within three months on pump therapy lowered the A1c's to normal range with less bg testing than when on MDI.

I've encountered doctors like you before whom don't understand Type I Diabetes nor the fact that persons with Diabetes are human.

Please leave your dogma at he door.

  • training is the key... like driving a car is great... if you know how to drive

  • Insulin pumps are right for every single person. The "safe use" is mainly up to the patient true, but it is the doctors (you), up most and sole job to make sure the pumps are used properly. with exclusion of insulin pump reps.
