I think its audio paste,its a kind of paste that lowers the sound that you hear but doesnt destroy the quallity of the sound like ear-plugs do,its for playing with very loud speakers,if you dont put something in you can go def.

I put it sometimes in concerts its only for your own protection + i think he had bug underneath it too.

Actually it's two in-ear monitors.

Since you can't hear shit up on stage due to the fact of the amps going and the crowd, they all wear monitors in their ears so they can hear themselves and a mix of the rest of the band so they all play in time together.

I've used them when I've played live.
