@Seattlecarnut Perhaps, but someone who is buying a Mercedes-Benz expects these luxury features; it's a luxury automobile after all... Also, you can't have memory seats without power seats.
@hokman-Are you retarded?I'm just asking, because Princess Diana were still alive after the car crash and by the way Mercedes made the best cars in the world in every respect. So you can go fuck yourself.
This short documentary is simply a pure joy. Despite the fact that we are the proud owners of this Beauty, the W140 is by far one of the finest cars in the world...if not the best. Come on, we are talking here about a Legend!
You are right. The W140 is a legendary car. Much criticized at its debut in 1991 because it hardly fitted in many garages and parking spaces but that's what the S Class was all about, pure luxury and gargantuan proportions. Every W140 owner should be proud of owning a piece of engineering like this.
@NTL1991 umm yes it did, the gentleman who survived (riding in the front seat) was wearing his seat belt. they crashed at 120mph. and it is a miracle he survived. if only princess diana had been wearing hers she might still be with us to this day. you will be loved princess diana. god bless
@S55amgDriver The car was actually going around 60mph and no one in the car was wearing a seat belt. The bodyguard (the only one that survived the wreck) was likely saved because of the airbag. It is likely however that Princess Diana would have lived had she been wearing a seat belt. Where she was sitting the impact force was calculated to be 50MPH which is well within survivable limits for a human.
@hokman1 Princess Diana, and the other occupants of the care chose not to use the seat belts. The cars' speed was excessive and driven by a drunken driver into a solid structural member. The deployment of the airbags saved at least one life, even without the use of seatbelts.
@hokman1 That Princess Diana died in W140 had nothing to do with the safety of this car. Not one car in the world can prevent injury or death in case of an accident. Especially the princess Diana accident (high speed, no seat belts, drunk driver).
@hokman1 She didn't wear her seat belt smart.... When they crashed her body keep moving and her head slammed into the front windshield. And if she had worn her seat belt it would have kept her in her seat and she wouldn't have slammed into the windshield. The driver survived and he was in the front because he wore his seat belt.
As far as the US-spec S320 or 300SE, the front seats are power-adjustable. The rear seats are not. I'm pretty sure that feature was only available on the S420 or 400SE/SEL and up. As far as everything else, most of the convenience features are there save for some higher-cost ones like the dash-mounted telephone. The 3.2L and 4.2L have the standard coil suspension whereas the upper models have the air-suspension.
Sorry, a factual error. The adjustable suspension is hydraulic, not pneumatic. Also, the hydraulic suspension might ride better, but (especially since these cars are getting older and older) they are a HUGE HUGE HUGE pain to get in working order. Pumps, hoses, accumulators and, most expensive of all, the stocks themselves. I'd rather have the S420 to avoid the headaches and small fortune in repairs. The 4.2L gives plenty of power, too...
Build quality, the materials on the W140 are far better than the W126. Hell, I own both and I can tell the difference.
I know several other people who have owned both the w126 and the w140 and praise the w140's engineering and quality, something its successor was lacking.
The w126 is a fantastic machine and truly a classic, but you w126 lovers really need to get off your high horses.
I own one, i like it, maybe ill get 600SEL if i can get one in decent condition

What do you need power seats for? It's just as easy to pull a lever underneath the front of the seat to move the seat back and forth, isn't it?

NTL1991 6 months ago
@NTL1991 That's true. I've owned several cars, and only one had power operated seats. So, I'm used to cars without power seats.
Seattlecarnut 6 months ago
@NTL1991 dude, his point is that its not really a luxury at all. I have to agree. It takes much more time to get the seats to adjust electrically.

@Seattlecarnut yes because my stupid power-seats broke. if i didn't have them i would have less things to go wrong lol.

what a nice car!!!!! :-) current models aren't so elegant

Mercedes-Benz is purely-HIGH tech in all cars, all cars are automatic-controlled!!!
Look at the W140, their engines are V8 & V12, that's now the same as the sports cars!!!! such as Ferrari's, Bugatti's, Lamborghini's etc.!!!!
Very nice!!!

sure it has toys. But where is the handling, the safety of the w116? Princess Diana died in this one.

@hokman1 i strongly doubt the w116 would be safer than this...and even though the w140 isn't a sports car it feels very stable in the corners.....

does the base 6 cyl model happen to have the electric reclining seats and all the rest of the good features or is it fairly basic?
