It may have begun in fleas but there is no way it spread all over the world by fleas. It had to have mutated and started spreading from person to person. There is no other way for that rapid a spread to happen. Only person to person spreading could do that.
Cats were in disfavor as a sign of witchcraft in much of Europe, no understanding of germs or disease existed, and yet there was trade and rats were prosperous and carried on trade ships. Sounds plausible.
Yes the facts are correct. When I was attending university one of the top professors (who knows about plague) said that it is VERY plausible to happen again! pretty scary...
BEWARE of fleas! I am sooo totally paranoid of them for good reason. They vector plague disease. Keep careful watch over your kids, especially little ones--they're low & close to the ground. Inspect for fleas often.
