lol i remember my mate got this i remember being shocked because we both had had the 464 or 6128 and when this came along i did not have a clue what to think of it, i remember playing burnin rubber alot but thought it was pretty crappy
the tech they were trying to flog was seriously out off date, 32 bit was know at the time just about to be released (towns and amigacd 32 in 1991) 16bit had firmly established it self over 5 years with the atari st and amiga and the megadrive had been out for 2 years. to not be upgrading with a 32bit or 16 bit at the time, was suicide.
and to ask amstrad owners never mind anyone else to buy into a stripped down cpc 464 was insulting
what they shifted was xmas pressies by non knowledgable parents
really this and the c64 games machine and to a lesser extent the amiga cd32
was seen at the time as a huge rip off scam by manufacturers. resell a stripped down out off date tech of an existing product. i mean its a less powerful 464 plus sold at an extrodinary price. 8 bit tech being sold in 1990 when 16 bit started hitting the market in the mid 80's. a massive rip off effort and it failed spectacularly essentially signaling the death of commadore and amstrad as main stream computer vendors
I had 3 of these and 9 games, sold for about £10. Stupid. Klaz, operation thunderbolt, batman, Switchblade, Barbarian 2, Fire and Forget 2, Mystical, Pro Tennis Tour, World Of Sports
It's a piece of music I made myself. I have a Roland JV-1080 which is where the synth sound comes from. The rest of the instruments and strings comes from my Korg NS5R. The drums are from an Alesis SR-16.
Song was composed in MIDI in about an hour. I used some royalty free sound samples for the voices.
I fleetingly mentioned this console in my last vid the other day so thought i'd YouTube the GX4000....... was never going to take off but i'm glad I owned it just for the novelty factor!
I just bought on of these Amstrads for £21 which i think is quite a good price considering they are quite rare on eBay. Im so looking forward to playin it as these games look great fun.
If anyone wants my Sega Mastersystem it will be on eBay soon =P
Well made video. Liked the "fast forward" effect and that male voice almost sounded real at times. That racing game looks pretty smooth. Almost Mega Drive quality. Can't say the same for that fighting game. lol.
Amstrad did actually release other, far more popular consoles in the UK, I believe. It was a compititor of the overwhelmingly popular Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
The GX4000 was the only "Console" released by Amstrad (although the 464 & 6128 plus machines did have a cartridge slot.) The other machines - mainly the CPC 464 and CPC 6128 were marketed as "Complete Home Computer" packages and not games machines (although the 464 was mainly used for games.)
Indeed, the only way that'd work was if all the games had a 464 mode built in them, which I doubt would as it'd be too much effort to reprogram every single game made.
According to Google current costs run ~US$3000. But for most Windows users (AFAIK, at least with XP and Vista) Microsoft has already included built-in Text-to-Speech function. Look for it in Control Panel.

If you owned and amstrad plus, you could already play GX4000 games, as it had a cartidge slot and was compatible.

@retrozoneorg Nicely done, don't suppose you used retro equipment to compose it did you?

Burning rubber is technically very well done and probably the best thing on this system

Theres quite a WikiWar on the Amstrad pages changing it's architecture from 464 based to 6128 based.
I personally always thought it was 464 based as I owned a 464 for many years and they were identical.
ScrewAttackEurope 3 years ago
It would not make sense for the GX4000 to be 6128plus based. As it's games would not work on the 464plus...

This CPC+ range was a complete industrial mistake.
They should only have released the 6128 CPC+ with Disk, Cassette and cartridge on it...and nothing else.
macdeath69 3 years ago 2
or perhaps released a 16 bit computer
andyukmonkey 3 years ago
Let's say CpC+ were released 3 years too late !
And it was a mistake too to release one with only cassettes..
macdeath69 3 years ago
Sure, but even that, it was still a 8 bits machine, at a time 16 bits Amiga, Atari and jap console were a great success.
Worse for them : PC started to break with CD-rom players and Soundblasters !
In fact Amstrad should have released a 16 or 32 bits machine at a small price.
