is it an uncut one? whats the blade length on it? i have an original almost mint condition, 1942 dated m1 garnd bayonet with cover, very nice and uncut :) 9 3/4 length
a lot of the mm1905e1 short bayonets were cut down during the war and made shorter, they turned them into fighting knifes kind of and made them have spear points... if its uncut, the blade length should be 9 3/4 inches long..
they cut down the bayonets because troops complained that the bayonets were to bulky when attached, thus the M5 was born, it had a 10 inch blade, the 1905 you speak of had a 16 inch blade. The M1942 Bayonet was also cut down to 10 inches, and then renamed the M1 garand bayonet which became standard issue from 1942-1957.
none were turned into fighting knives that was a myth.
fascinating...
