I used to work at the Fortmacleod plant. You think they treat the horses badly you should see how they treat the cut floor employees.. They are slave drivers and treat there workers like trash, they pay very poorly and work you like a dog. They pick meat up off the ground constantly and workers are trained to know how to get away with it so the government inspectors dont see what really goes on. They also allow workers to go to work pissed drunk and high on drugs. The plant foreman is CHI HUANG

We all know it was Bouvry & their ignorance by not commenting proves it.

When I was being interviewed during the Bouvry protest, 1 reporter in particular (no names mentioned for obvious reasons) was near tears after speaking to me. She wanted to take some pictures of my poster b/c she said it was the most heart wrenching 1 she'd seen. You didn't see it b/c I was being interviewed almost the entire time & I was holding it out of shot so the wind wouldn't tear it away, it was a tribute to Kitty.

Wow! Thanks so much canadianskye for keeping Dr. Evans' feet to the fire. The problem with their pandering responses is we now know that CFIA only has 2 options available to them in slaughterhouse cases - stop the line and correct the specific problem (but the problems are systemic and inspectors who stop the line are harassed and bullied) OR suspend the licence of the establishment - THAT'S IT!

@TwylaFrancois and i will keep e-mailing he and others as well. i am tired of the promises but want something legit that is shown to be happening. i can get under someone's skin when i want something done. (it doesn't work all the time) but it did work in the case of a homecare worker who was abusing mom & he was fired.

Can you believe it? There's no middle-ground allowing for fines, penalties or corrective action and accountability. So how can we possibly be assured that slaughter can be done humanely if they don't have any means of penalizing offenders?

The CFIA is a joke. You are essentially doing their work for them and the only thing they can say is that they will check on the authenticity of your work? It just proves that the CFIA has never even set foot in these facilities. What a waste of tax payer's money.

I think in the case of Global, they're just being smart and trying to avoid being sued. Kudos to them for having the courage to air it!

But the accusations by pro-horse slaughter folks are the same as when we did the Natural Valley Farms expose. What incredible movie sets we must have hidden in our basements, complete with a full cast of slaughterhouse workers, screamingly loud saws and compressors!

A date and time stamp is embedded in the footage. We've edited them for time but that's it.

@TwylaFrancois Yeah, you guys are geniuses for making this look SO real. Are you the same folks who made very similar films in Texas at Dallas Crown and Beltex, oh, about 25, 30 years ago? Wow! You guys are getting old! But, you must be the same ones because how many people have all the money and everything to make it look so real, and these old ones looked just as real.

FYI - I have been fighting slaughter for 30 YEARS! I lived in Texas when the plants were working. I've been INSIDE a plant. Have you? I have friends whose horses were stolen and slaughtered. Do YOU?

@canadianskye1964 That IS indeed a problem. At the moment, the EU is investigating the Mexican plant and they ordered LOTS of changes and will inspect again. I'm hoping they will decide to stop buying from Mexico.

Their new rules on traceability - of contamination of the meat for drugs - will be enforced on Jul 31, and maybe they'll decide they don't want US horses at all. Just have to wait and see how it plays out.

@MorganLver the we in canada desperately need the eu to come investigate our horse slaughter plants. damn it (sorry) it makes one sick. i wonder if the europeans know how their "horse' dies, if it would make them thing twice. the problem is tgreed-horse meat is a delicacy. i know i'm telling things you already but it's like banging your head against the wall. perhaps you could share your efforts to close/end slaughter plants

@canadianskye1964 I know the feeling! It's incredable to me that people can turn a blind eye to such horror. But, we in the US now have a weapon that doesn't rely on people being humane. The EU has finally taken notice of the fact that US horses are not food animals and so are exposed to substances that are banned from the food chain.

@canadianskye1964 (continued) I'm not sure what rules Canada has, but in the US we have NO way of tracking what a horse may have been in contact with for his/her ENTIRE life. So many of the things we put on or in our horses are banned - out of the food chain for life. The most commonly used NSAID - Phenylbutazone - bute - is one of those. If a horse has EVER been given bute, they are permanently banned from the human food chain. No ifs ands or buts. That's what you need to stress to your PM.

@canadianskye1964 As for how these guys get hired, these are VERY low paying, dangerous jobs and their employers don't care HOW they get the job done as long as they keep up with moving line of carcasses. It's sick and disgusting for us, and it's also dehumanizing for the workers. Really a lose/lose situation.

Have you seen the vid where the horse can't manage to get a hind leg up into the trailer so he just crushes the leg with the trailer door. You can hear bone crunch. HORRIBLE!!

@MorganLver yes i've seen that video (unfortunately) in the u.s. are horse shooters & plant workers immigrants? i don't know if that is the case in canada, but i don't think i would be desperate for income i would work in a plant. these people truly must to desperate. from what i've seen in the videos they do seem desensitized which is really dangerous; if they do this to horses, what are their relationships to family, etc. violence to animals leads to violence to people

@MorganLver i can't even watch whole videos of mexican slaughterhouses stabbing their horses to death. i have watched videos where they actually cheer when the horse is finally killed-afte multiple stabs & the horse is exhausted. & i thought these videos were sickening.

@TwylaFrancois thank you twyla for your exposee on the horse slaughter industry. there will alway be people who will discout the authenticity. people will justify as it''s a easy way to get rid of excess horses. they do not know the suffering or must be very hard hearted to not be affected by your videos the suffering these horses go through. i am so sickened about people breeding horses as they want to see a foal grow up, etc. just another foal who provide supper for someone later on in life.

@TwylaFrancois i emailed a letter of brian evans (brian evans, inspector of cfia awith all the details that you had on your website w/ the reply that he was angered & disgusted at the treatment of horses at the plants. he claimed that cfia is now monitorng these plants in all aspects (this is me shortening his answer) & that people have trained to their jobs. etc.

@canadianskye1964 Be sure to push heavy on the fact that American horses are not safe to eat. THAT'S a FACT no one can dispute. That's the reason c54 was proposed in the first place. And with good reason. Canada doesn't want to take the responsibility for exporting meat they can't guarantee is safe. Let 'em have it with THAT. No emotion, just the FACT that American horses are not raised as food animals and are exposed to substances that are banned from the human food chain. He should KNOW this!
