Hi, very nice mini you have there. What exhaust do you have as it looks like the works rally coopers one. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Evan.
Doesn't help the running of it when the breather pipe on the right hand carb as you look at the engine isn't blanked off properly. The pipe has been squashed with a paor of pliers. It'll still let air into that carb & completely muck up the balancing of the carbs.
I guess after nearly 50 years of tuning Minis Mr. Slark would not know how to tune a Mini motor...dang if he had sealed that off per comments we would have been faster than Jan Lammers every day instead of just some days....LOL...seriously it is sealed off, not just crimped...the engine ran for days on their dyno in the UK...ran awesome for the whole rally....
Those 2 SU's carbs are so difficult to adjust ! If they work properly at high rpms the car does not idle, with a proper idling the car is a tortoise. I threw them away and install a modern single carb, not so collectible original but runs perfect at any range.
Pablo, the twin SU are not hard to adjust and setup, what is a problem is that if they are old and worn out they will be less than ideal. I am not sure why you would put a "modern" carb on a Mini, it is about as not modern as a car can be. But I am used the big single on a street car and it was very good, just not what we need in our application.
No, it is a 1966 Austin Cooper S, but the engine is unorthodox so it can survive extreme temp changes and hard running 8 hours a day for 7 days in Mexico.
We do use the better grade Fram but really it does not matter that much as we dont use them long enough to make much of a difference. In the Mini with the gears in the sump we are more worried about magnets catching the swarf off the gears. This filter block has magnets in the unused ports and we have magnets on all the pickup locations.
Why not? It works fine and we use a very standard American remote filter housing so the big filter, Fram or other brand is readily available on every other street corner.
Yeah, i used fram for years on my midget with no real problems. I've heard that wix filters are better, and I've used K&N oil filters before too (but those are REALLY pricy)
Yes those are 1.5" carbs. We dont worry too much about the dirt, it is a race engine even though we do a few transits on short sections of dirt roads or roads under construction. We do carrry foam filter socks. Eventually I am fitting a set of good filters like S&B....etc.
It will go better with the wheels on!

Nice, are those HS4's on there? I like the stacks, what do you do to keep the dirt out?
