@kcelvisfan11 gotta say I am thankful for the good Tribute artists like Steve Sogura, I never got a chance to see Elvis and Steve is as close to a late 60's Elvis I've ever seen. Wish there was a good 50's out there, but no one comes close as far as voice. Cody slaughter and Dean Z are both close in appearance, but not sound.
@kcelvisfan11 Oh sweetie, there are some really bad ETA`s out there but they are all helping to keep Elvis name alive and his memory. I hate the bad ones too but there are some really good ones. Elvis once said the time to worry is when no one notices him , it is 35 years almost since he left us but he will never die in our minds and our hearts, he was is and always will be the greatest singer/entertainer of all time. No one can replace him x
My favorite pics of Elvis! From :57 to 1:15. I did a photo re-creation of these for our 50's Elvis Tribute Show,...same shirt, jacket, microphone, etc' (you can see my photo at 50selvis.webs.com ),...Elvis was photographed at RCA Victor Studios in New York City on Dec. 1st. 1955 for these shots. They ended up on the back cover of his first album in 1956. Thanks for posting these!
Wow! Elvis is in good voice here. Great song. When he was very young his voice was at it;s peak. Being English I have to mention that England's first Rock and Roller was BILLY FURY and his voice was similar to Elvis' ! He was a big star in England and had many Hits but he also sadly died young at 42! from Heart problems due to contracting Rheumatic Fever as a child. One of his songs A WONDROUS PLACE ! is really great , A dvd called His Wondrous Story plus many cd's are sold at Amazon.com.
JACKIE,THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUE SITE.I AM FROM MEMPHIS AND DID SEE ELVIS ALL OVER TOWN,IM 57 YRS ,I HAVE FOUND SONGS ON YOUR SITE THAT I NEVER HEARD.THANKS RICK
I know Elvis said "We were supposed to raise $5000 we actually raised $75000 and thats all thanks to you." That doesn't alter the fact Elvis payed more in tax in the US 73 than anyone else. If you look it up you'll find it's true.
RCA blew many opportunities to release some really good songs off numerous albums. I don't understand why they released so much junk when Elvis recorded so many masterpieces.
Elvis is and will always be the most talented vocalist in the history of music. Wish he were still here!
Good point. The RCA Camden series reveals their lack of commitment to Elvis the Artist of the Century. The song I Want You I Need You / My Baby Left Me single went Number One and yet it was not "included" in the 30 #1 Hits Album and was placed on the Second to None. My Baby Left Me the B-Side is on the Early Elvis Album.
Always, find it hard to believe that great songs like this one, and MANY of his others, are basically unheard of ,outside of the fan base. Yet, in my opinion, worse songs ,like teddy bear and blue suede shoes ,are worldly known .! just cant understand it !
Haunting, that is a good description. For me , this song is the essence of Elvis, one of my favorites by far. This song really moves in a slow but rhythmic way, and with that killer voice, it is truly a treasure. Thank you for posting this.
Uh, I LOVE this song! One of my favorites for sure. Freakin' awesome vocals--I feel like I can't breathe through this whole song, especially 1:42, oooh yeah.
What I love about this Elvis performance: Probably the best vocal he ever did from that time! My favorite for sure! What I noticed is his Gospel influence was prevalent even then: the melody of this song is JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE. Just beautiful! This sound could never be duplicated by ANY Elvis soundalike or impersonator! Sincerely, a life-long Elvis fan, Joe Scibetta
@195477 I think it's a B side because Elvis and the Col didn't have the writer's credits, so they wouldn't have made as much money on it as they would have on some other songs.
@195477 Hello My Friend 3 Million Dollars is a Lot Money NOW It is Just that thought Aloha Tax would not have been paid until Folowing Year 1974 The First Rehersal Concert Jan 12th Audience Free :: Just Donations Raised $75,000 Main Concert All Tickets Money NOT PAID to Elvis Presley All Donated to Charity on Island Show COST $2,500,000 to Make But that & Elvis Will Never Be Beaten But Would Imagine the Highest Tax Thing was By a Individual Elvis & RnR Forever The UK TeddyBoy
@1950sTeddyboy That was the donations made on whatever you wanted to pay for your ticket but it cost money to stage the show broadcast it worldwide and tax on the albums.
@195477 Yes that is what I said in last reply COST $2,500,000 to Produced But what the Records say Was received in Charity Do not Match Amount That Elvis said During Show I know who I beleive & That's Elvis !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have Charities in UK .That only receive 2p in £1 The other 98p Skimmed off By Administrators Wages Only thing that can Be Said Elvis Charity Home in Hawaii Is Still Operating.. So Good was Done By the Greatest Performer The World Will Ever Know The UK TeddyBoy
@GJoeJ010841 I was reading last night where this song was recorded in the middle of a gospel session. I think that is why it has that gospel feel to it. Great song!
It was released on Essential Elvis, Vol. 2, A Valentine Gift For You, and Elvis: The Other Sides-Worldwide Gold Award Hits, and The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters, which is where this version is from.
Written by Titus Turner. Elvis recorded it January 12, 1957 at Radio Recorders. Take #5 was chosen for the release, but it remained unreleased for almost nine years. It was finally released as a single in 1965, and had a 7-week stay on Billboards Hot 100 chart, peaking at #33. It sold over 1,000,000 copies and was the A-side to Blue River.
Wonder if RCA slowed down this 1957 master for a 1965 release. I bought the single when I was 14, that year. Should have been even bigger - RCA should have promoted it as a long lost gem - although, in those days, "previously unreleased" didn't mean much to record buyers.
I think Elvis actually based his version on Gale Storm's! Thanx.
This is such a very outstanding, overlooked and underrated song. It's one of hundreds of hidden gems recorded by King Elvis. Elvis will always be #1. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.

Amazing...Never heard this one before. The song sounded like something between,
'Just A Closer Walk With Thee' and a slow version of 'Your Cheatin' Heart' ;)
Anyway...Very nice!.- Thanks for sharing Jackiej61

@tubasinbulgaria Maybe.
I just read that in 73 Elvis payed more tax than ANYONE in the US...not 100% sure that's correct though.

@195477 ..Would seriously doubt it My Friend
Unless he was Paying Colonel Parkers Aswell
Which I would not put passed Him in 50/50 Split
You can Bet Elvis's Half had everything deducted
Plus at this 73 would not think was One of Elvis's
Highest Paypacket Times: I am not sure But I bet
whoever Owns Everything now earns more a Year
Than Elvis Did in His Whole Career

It's a fact in 73 Elvis paid more income tax than anyone in the US. in tax.
You has the Aloha in 73.The amount he paid was around 3million dollars..a lot of money at the time.
