I wish my Greyhound had read the books about how they are supposed to behave. Mine ate huge meals, would steal anything left out, raided the rubbish bins for scraps, barked furiously when anyone rang the front door bell. He shed his fur everywhere but to be fair he was mostly white with brindle patches. But would I have swopped him for another, not for a Kings ransom! He was the best dog I've ever owned. Sadly we lost him just a few weeks ago. Will I get another Grey? You bet I will!
I understand a lot of Greys are good with other animals but I would have to have 100% faith that my Chi/Rat and TFT would be OK.My loss but someday I'll have one and maybe a Whippet too.Sight Hounds are a special breed.
@pipsqueak631 my friend has a greyhound, a cat and a chinchilla in an apartment! She lets the chinchilla run around the living room too the greyhound isn't bothered! and it's an ex racer :D
I almost adopted a Grey till I let my small Terries out the backdoor.Yep,so like rabbits...Every Greyhound needs a home but every home isn't right for a Grey. They are a wonderful breed,no doubt.
@pipsqueak631 most greyhounds are fabulous with other dogs, i bet you wouldn't have a problem....they are smart enough to know it's a dog and not a rabbit ;)
There are greyhound rescues everywhere and although they are big dogs they dont eat big meals as they have small stomachs, they dont shed their hair unless you get a white one, they rarely bark and you dont need to take them for long walks - their sprinters so like a quick run then usually have had enough. I highly reccomend getting one. There are thousands of greys desperately needing homes, they are so affectionate and loving :)
So typical. My grey doesn't sleep that long in one spot unless she is really worn out, but she definitely does the "flip" after sleeping in one position for awhile. Can't get bedsores you know!
I love this video...it shows exactly what greyhounds are like. When people come to visit me for the 1st time, they see my greyhound and think...."uh-oh" after about a minte they are amazed that she is out cold in her bed:-)
hahaha, that's greyhounds all over. I adopted a greyhound bitch who won 30 of her 46 races and she was the laziest, most layed back, friendly, docile, gentle girl I have ever owned.
Love this vid, it shows the greyhound as they are.
It's so funny! :) Here, greyhounds aren't as popular in the states (Québec, Canada) and when I walk my dogs, everyone mentions how much exercise these dogs need... yeah, right! lol!| After a 45 minute walk, I have to literally push or pull Astro to make him follow Billy who's a bit more active...
There are so many stray greyhounds in Spain, you don't have to pay for them at all, the poor things are killed by the dozen every day... For those of you in the US who want greyhounds, it's probably worth contacting the Spanish rescue groups who have already helped people all over the world to adopt greyhounds from Spain. I can send you the names of the rescue groups if anyone's interested...
Yep. My rescued Greyhound girl is also a Couch Potato. She has a great sense of humour, darling kind heart and is very funny. Also greyhounds don't have that doggie smell and mine has awesomely soft fur to stroke. Like velvet. She runs like a bullet and then collapses for the next 23 hours!!!

@fattyfattyfishy This is why I love dog people. I post a highly objectionable comment for trolling purposes and you reply with a respectful note pointing out the facts. I can't even keep up the front, lol.
I had a rescue track grey for 11 years. He came to me at 4 years old and the years we spent together were wonderful. He has been gone for about a year and a half now and thought of often. I don't know if I will ever own a breed other than a greyhound. I'm not aware of any other large breed dog that is so low maintenance, so loving and so appreciative of the attention they receive. Spend a day with a Grey and you might just feel the same.
Mine used to sleep all the time... Now, unfortunately, her sleep is forever. We had a good run together, though. I miss her so much... The house is empty and I'm sort of lost like a kid in the mall.
As the owner of 2 greys, I can vouch that this is the normal daily routine. LOL To KaosGal: they are muzzled when running with other greys because they all get so excited they tend to nip one another in excitement; because their skin is very thin and fragile, they easily cut each other up. The muzzles protect them from nips. They are not there because of any real aggression. When not running/lure coursing, they are extremely gentle with other greys, people and other dogs.
My sister has a greyhound that whines when she's not in the room with him, like when he's in his kennel and she's in her bedroom. He's a retired racing greyhound, so I think they need to keep him in a little cage to sleep, or else he gets irritable. They had to fix this by putting his kennel in the bedroom with them.
He even sleeps more than a cat.... :)) I love greys and all other animals who are not greys... Thanks for sharing your video with us and give him a sweet hug please
I have an ex-racing greyhound. She is beautiful. They are the best dogs. People are scared of them because they're big, and think they are vicious because they have to wear muzzles. That's why everyone gets those stupid fluffy white dogs (no offense to owners of stupid fluffy white dogs) but greyhounds are the least likely dog IN THE WORLD to bite another dog or human. Mostly just little fluffy white things, because they were BRED TO DO THAT. Adopt a greyhound next time you're looking for a dog.
@SapphireNightWolf "As the owner of 2 greys, I can vouch that this is the normal daily routine. @33Ona We had a retired racer for 11 years. He never pulled on the leash or chased squirrels or anything like that - his favorite thing to do on walks was to stop and sniff flowers!
I have a working dog grey hound cross breed for boar hunting.
Weird kinda mix sleeps a lot but when she wakes up she can run and run for hours and does laps of the house. The difference is she can be carmed down she isn't stuck on hypo mode.
She is ugly though... Imagen a Grey hound with a huge chest really really tall and a big duffy head.... She can't help her self to run at our cat she just runs at it then stops.,.. the hits it with her paw so it runs more... silly dog...
whoa your clock is running way too fast!!! =) heh. I've adopted a beautiful ex-racing greyhound. I pick him up on the weekend. Gorgeous temprements these dogs! Most loving breed ever! I'ma call him 'Slick'

Whippets are the same. Lots of our friends think our whippet is "hyper", but she was just a puppy. Now, they are like, "she's so calm now???" Its like, "dah dude, she's not a puppy anymore." 99% of the day she is lounging around... She is the best dog ever! So chill and as long as she is in your company, she is happy!

Yes, but my dachshund used to do so, too. And she weighed 7 kg and was 60 cm long! Now my grey does the same. I have never felt any happier!!! (Only it takes me some time till I learn how to fall out of bed elegantly...)
I own a black greyhound and he's the best dog in the world. Yeh, I know I'm biased, but he is pretty special. I agree with milorox; they aren't as hyper as you would expect, although when I come downstairs in the morning Jake goes absolutely nuts!!! He's just happy to see me.
Fact: I have taught my dog to bow. True! He now bows on command.
I've also just taught him to lie down, which isn't as spectacular, but still a pretty big thing, cause my dog is seriously NOT obedient.
Hi, Had a Lab, thought I had the perfect dog. Sadly when He passed I looked around at other breeds. Decided on a Greyhound from a local rescue group. I've never been so happy! Sorry Lab owners, but Greyhounds are the best. Blue is such a loving dog, calm, peaceful, and respectful. What more could you ask for in a dog? "Forty mile couch potato" I can deal with. Hyper all day, not that much. All l ask for is that people that are looking to adopt a dog, Please consider a Greyhound!!
@rudhrakha Here in Massachusetts, it costs approx. $200 to adopt an ex-racer from a rescue shelter, then it's on to the vets office most times. I've never heard of anybody getting a greyhound for free. gl
@rudhrakha the humane society gets in greyhounds-at the time i got mine she was 75 dollars. i did alo have to spay her. it took a long time to find a vet that would take the spay voucher (not take the spay voucher and charge you too). every pet is going to cost you something. it might be worth it to ask at a track directly.
@fmd1964 $75 for a greyhound is a real nice deal. ofcourse Vet costs but hope its not like $500/month..that would kill me. my friend has a italain grey hound...this one is Sensitive to almost everything !!!
Its not fake. My greyhound Prancer, born on christmas, only gets up to eat and poop. Greyhounds have a hard time sitting cuz they have NO butt and standing gets tiring.
Do you crate your puppy? That really helps with the peeing if you put the pup in a crate just large enough for her to get up and turn around in. They don't like to soil their sleeping area. Leaving a looping recording of you talking to her in soothing tones can help as well. She might do well to have a companion, too. Our lurcher Emma was a basket case until we started crating her with our beagle mix. They snuggle and sleep now. Best thing we ever did!
I have always wanted a greyhound, they are so beautiful and gentle, after seeing this, I want them even more xDD sooo cutee

We got our greyhound 4 months ago from a rescue organization and he is everything we expected... best dog EVER!
brianneburnell1 2 years ago
I own a black greyhound and he's the best dog in the world. Yeh, I know I'm biased, but he is pretty special. I agree with milorox; they aren't as hyper as you would expect, although when I come downstairs in the morning Jake goes absolutely nuts!!! He's just happy to see me.
Fact: I have taught my dog to bow. True! He now bows on command.
I've also just taught him to lie down, which isn't as spectacular, but still a pretty big thing, cause my dog is seriously NOT obedient.
GREYHOUNDS RULE!!!!!

All l ask for is that people that are looking to adopt a dog, Please consider a Greyhound!!

when i get his lead out he jumps up and when and when i come in from school love him so much
apart from he can reach the work top so u have to be careful LOL ! he racing name was glenskie franti
horsesarecutee 1 year ago
@bluesdad46 how much u paid for the dog? I am looking for a free adoption...is it possible?
rudhrakha 9 months ago
@rudhrakha Here in Massachusetts, it costs approx. $200 to adopt an ex-racer from a rescue shelter, then it's on to the vets office most times. I've never heard of anybody getting a greyhound for free. gl
JonnyLikesPie 9 months ago
@rudhrakha the humane society gets in greyhounds-at the time i got mine she was 75 dollars. i did alo have to spay her. it took a long time to find a vet that would take the spay voucher (not take the spay voucher and charge you too). every pet is going to cost you something. it might be worth it to ask at a track directly.
fmd1964 9 months ago
@fmd1964 $75 for a greyhound is a real nice deal. ofcourse Vet costs but hope its not like $500/month..that would kill me. my friend has a italain grey hound...this one is Sensitive to almost everything !!!

Anaimals? Come on! Kids read this!
BillyJack7 2 years ago
Not all kids are stupid so what are you trying to imply???? Plus it's only a comment there are such things as "typo's"
MyLurcherMilo 2 years ago
I did not mean to get your panties in a knot but speling is important.
BillyJack7 2 years ago
Well if spelling is important then you need to go bach to school because its "spelling" not "speling"
MyLurcherMilo 2 years ago
Oh come on, it was a typo. I love dogs too!

Its not fake. My greyhound Prancer, born on christmas, only gets up to eat and poop. Greyhounds have a hard time sitting cuz they have NO butt and standing gets tiring.

How did you fight off separation anxiety? My 5 months old adopted pup pees when he's left alone, and we don't know what to do!
DragonNighthowler 3 years ago
Do you crate your puppy? That really helps with the peeing if you put the pup in a crate just large enough for her to get up and turn around in. They don't like to soil their sleeping area. Leaving a looping recording of you talking to her in soothing tones can help as well. She might do well to have a companion, too. Our lurcher Emma was a basket case until we started crating her with our beagle mix. They snuggle and sleep now. Best thing we ever did!

Yep, that's about it. 40 mph for 60 seconds, 0 mph the rest of the day.
