Looking at the flower shot I've gotta say I prefer the Canon. The clarity of the flowers and leafs in focus are better compared with the Nikon, and that makes the bokeh look more impressive.
I like the Nikon's bokeh better, I don't know why. Seems less distracting to me, actually..
It's no surprise that many Canon owners will use Nikkor lenses, though -- especially this particular lens.. it's cheap but built well and produces good-quality photos.
well as long as yo take care of the lens it seems the canon may be a better choice than the nikon it is cleaner and seems to have better bokeh i just don't like the plastic mount.
i have owned all three (Except the new 1.8G) AF 50mm nikkor lenses and the 50 f/1,8 D stands alone as the value / performance winnder. its such a good lens for its price. I would recommend it to any new photographer. Its sharper than my 50mm f/1.4G. Sharpness doesnt matter too too much to professionals though. they are looking for images with professional finish.
Honestly I like both of them. But for some reason on 4:44-4:51 the 2 pictures are swap right? I'm pretty sure that the pink skin tone is some what Nikon color style.
I find these videos mildly funny, but in every episode you seem to waste something perfectly good. Some people have to work to buy things, and seeing them destroyed is a bit depressing.
@DuckHouseProductions Are you talking about the sushi? if so, you have an odd sensibility about what people work hard to buy (I could work an hour of my part-time job and afford probably 3 or 4 of those). If you're talking about the nikon, it's only painted, it's performance is exactly the same. If it didn't still work they wouldn't be using it in tests.
Although the canon isn't very sharp at 1.8, and it created pentagonal bokeh shapes (only 5 aperture blades), I love mine and I think it beats the nikon <3
@xxbluejay21 If it weren't for the fact that i'd like to become a cinematographer.. I'd go for Nikon. But Canon obviously has the lead when it comes to video. But I agree.. For photos Nikon has better options
@D4RKH4WKProductions well, the 50D is a better model than the d90. If you put the Nikkor on a model comparable to the D50, then we'd have more accurate results.
judging by this video and the image turnout i would say the images created by the canon was better but if you adjust the settings perhaps you can capture the color quality you desire from the nikon. the bokeh itself was great in both cameras/lenses
The Sony 35/1.8 beats the crap out of both of them. And it's not some awkward 75mm equiv that's too short for a portrait but too long for a normal on the common crop APS-C sensors.
@AETrainingDavid97 So? They'll play a big part in the DSLR market in the years to come. At least Sony aren't afraid to try new things and be innovative (SLT and NEX). What the fuck have Canon/Nikon done lately?
@BoxxyFan Oh, Canon just squeezed full HD video into a 21 megapixel full frame camera, and Nikon released a DX camera with great noise reduction and a magnesium alloy body for under $1,600.
We all choose brands because of what we've experienced with them. I choose Nikon. You choose Sony. Just different preferences.
@BoxxyFan SLT? You mean an EVF is new? A see-through mirror only allows faster FPS and to me right now, it's a gimmick which offers nothing over a good DSLR.
@BoxxyFan Why does the 35/1.8 beat the crap out them? Because Sony finally did as Nikon did and make a 50mm equiv for an APS-C camera? How new. I'll just continue using my 50mm when I move up to a full frame camera. Enjoy buying new lenses.
@russvien08 Nikon D1, D2X and D2Xs, the D3 is used by NASA, for example in Space Shuttle missions to the International Space Station. Keep capturing dust & sands, ''proffesional football photographer''. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@AETrainingDavid97 but theres also the 60d. Bodys can Run for almost only = $1100. which is less than a d7000 but offers HD video at multiple frame rates + manual sound recording, 18mp CMOS, Plastic Resin Weather sealing body, in-Camera Raw processing, and also has a variety of lens. Canon offers pretty much the same as Nikon also for less and still provides great quality lens.
I'd like to see this test again with closer settings on the two cameras. I prefer Nikon in general, and although the Canon does look a little better in this test, they're so close that the Canon body's higher built-in digital sharpening might be skewing the results. The RAWs should be equalized in PP before any conclusions can be drawn.

the comparison should have been done on the same camera with same settings. the sensor affects the depth of field....not an accurate comparison here.

@deegone actually uour wrong, because the canon sensor is smaller so it "should" have worse depth of field, its sensor size that effects bokeh.
TheMoo1231 9 months ago
@TheMoo1231 You're wrong, bokeh is effected by the engineering of the lens and the shape of the aperture blades.

@BoxxyFan However, Sony has one, hugely gigantic issue: They've yet to define themselves in the DSLR market.
