Looking at the flower shot I've gotta say I prefer the Canon. The clarity of the flowers and leafs in focus are better compared with the Nikon, and that makes the bokeh look more impressive.

I like the Nikon's bokeh better, I don't know why. Seems less distracting to me, actually..

It's no surprise that many Canon owners will use Nikkor lenses, though -- especially this particular lens.. it's cheap but built well and produces good-quality photos.

well as long as yo take care of the lens it seems the canon may be a better choice than the nikon it is cleaner and seems to have better bokeh i just don't like the plastic mount.

i have owned all three (Except the new 1.8G) AF 50mm nikkor lenses and the 50 f/1,8 D stands alone as the value / performance winnder. its such a good lens for its price. I would recommend it to any new photographer. Its sharper than my 50mm f/1.4G. Sharpness doesnt matter too too much to professionals though. they are looking for images with professional finish.

@DuckHouseProductions Are you talking about the sushi? if so, you have an odd sensibility about what people work hard to buy (I could work an hour of my part-time job and afford probably 3 or 4 of those). If you're talking about the nikon, it's only painted, it's performance is exactly the same. If it didn't still work they wouldn't be using it in tests.

the comparison should have been done on the same camera with same settings. the sensor affects the depth of field....not an accurate comparison here.

judging by this video and the image turnout i would say the images created by the canon was better but if you adjust the settings perhaps you can capture the color quality you desire from the nikon. the bokeh itself was great in both cameras/lenses

The A850 and A900 and A55 are all impressive, but they haven't been doing it for long; personally, I'm a bit weary when it comes to Sony DSLRs.

I'd like to see this test again with closer settings on the two cameras. I prefer Nikon in general, and although the Canon does look a little better in this test, they're so close that the Canon body's higher built-in digital sharpening might be skewing the results. The RAWs should be equalized in PP before any conclusions can be drawn.
