ok, here ya go, ,love the CD "Jimmie Vaughan" Plays blues, ballad and favorites. I am not a musician , far from it, but I know what I like. I Love this CD. I haven't been a fan for long.. I didn't know or hear "J" since this year. I missed him in Des Moines, Iowa, in March. It was my birthday and that is what I wanted as a present, listening to JV @ the blue club. Alas it wasn't to be. Hope you get back to DM, Ia so I can try again,.,....a new fan, MLou...
Welcome to the Family: Jimmie has a style and vibe that is totally unique and pays honor to the Classic Vintage Blues more than any contemporary artist around. He excels at surrounding himself with the best musicians in the business. On this video you get THREE TEXAS TORNADOES for the price of one with Jimmie fronting Denny Freeman on Guitar and George Raines on drums. Now go check out his Thunderbirds stuff!!
@vincebertsch moron..if it weren't for older bro jimmie, srv would have been a chef...idiot..be glad he was with us as long as he was and glad jimmie wasn't a trumpet player
@vincebertsch arrogance, stupidity and coldness in the same sentence. They are both fantastic bluesmen, Why the fuck would you say something like that? Stevie would most likely strangle you if he heard you talkin like that.
@vincebertsch Vince, at one show. Stevie and his band were waiting to go on. Jimmy was playing on stage at the time. He told his band "Sshhh. Listen to that. That's my brother playing". I don't know if you're ignorant, stupid or looking for attention. Really a wrong comment to make about the Vaughan's, period. Grow up
Jimmie Vaughn and Denny Freeman together, two killer players. I love Stevie Ray but Jimmie is sooo cool a player.. Denny Freeman I believe is working with Dylan now. This video is a treat.
It's a pitty that young musicians can't see what really matters in music... you don't have to play fast to be great... in fact, I think it's much more difficult to know what you DON'T have to do while playing. Amazing great vid, thanks a lot for posting.
Yup I've seen Jimmie Vaughan play a lot in Austin. Love living in Austin, Couldn't think of a better place. I could do without the traffic though heh.
This was hands down the best version of the Tilt-a-Whirl band. Denny on guitar and piano, Bill on B3, George on drums and Briz and the boys singing backup.
I saw him live with this band several times. Jimmie and Stevie had similar techniques but their styles are very different. Stevie was right, Jimmie never shows you everything he can do. Every show was different ... a great display of a genius and his guitar.
Great video. I just saw that Jimmy was at the 2010 Crossroads. I grew up near him and Stevie, and love those guys. Jimmy carries the torch for everything music should be and he is a legend. I liked the T-Birds, but Jimmy was the reason I listened to those guys.
@Jedi762 Of course he can't play guitar like Stevie. No one can play guitar like Stevie because he HAD HIS OWN STYLE. Just like Jimmie has his own voice on the guitar and so on. Also, Jimmie found his own fame with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and on his own.
@Jedi762 You are motherfucker idiot. I think you are typical typical stupid and dumb american. He has come to feel fully supported own achievement. 6564Joel is right. He is certainly a good guy.
Read the caption people. Stop bickering. That isn't Stevie. His name is Denny Freeman. And their is no animosity between the two brothers that I know of. They are competitive, but in a friendly good way. Both inspiring and challenging each other to "Dualing Guitars" to always become better and better.
Are you Crazy? Jimmie has his own carrer and style. He plays and sing very different of his little brother! First of all, he doesn't use a pick, if you don't realize.
Jimmie is regarded by the music industry as one of the best blues guitarists to ever play..he won a silly old grammy for it too..as SRV once said, Jimmie plays about 1/10 of what he really knows..his rythmn is better than most drummers..his style is less-is-more, the perfect note at the perfect time or playing slightly off the beat..hard to learn..he is a guitarist's hero..i've been playing 30yrs, he is my fav along with SRV..if you don't get Jimmie's music, you're a lame ass tone deaf idiot.
@Pre00 : I was with you up until the lame-ass part. I just try to be nice, is all. But yeah, I hear all sorts of people put down Jimmie for being too rough, playing off the beat, etc., and I think, man, listen to him. He is making the exact sound that's in his head come out of that ax, and he wobbles around the beat like nobody since Lightnin' Hopkins. Some of my favorite SRV licks are ones that echo Jimmie's laid-back wailin'
In reality you might say Robert Cray has a Jimmie Vaughan tone on his Guitar. Jimmie was cooking the Roadhouse Blues years before Robert came on the scene. Both favorites of mine.
herrinian Jimmy has a much different style of playing. Jimmy was a finger picker like country players the sound and style are very different. Jimmy is a dam good guitar player
I really don't get what the big deal is about Jimmie. His brother is the shit, but I really don't think he is anything special. There are countless better guitar players and singers. SRV whips his big brother's ass.
Reply to herrinian: I agree that Stevie is the shit (who wouldn't) because I'am a huge SRV fan, and I listen to alot more of his music, but his brother deserves a lot of credit too. Jimmie just has a different style of guitar playing but in my opinion he is an awesome guitarist.
dude, they have two different styles... it really doesn't pay to go on and on comparing musicians... music is not a competitive sport... it's a matter of taste ...
Exactly. Stevie's style could be classified as "badass," whereas Jimmie's style is more along the line of "mediocre at best." Two completely different styles.
herrinian, what are you doing watching a video by a "mediocre" artist , as you say...? I would call SRV's style exuberant-badass-showoff , and Jimmie's classy and understated feeling... by the way, he taught SRV how to play... check out the T-Birds early albums and get a schoolin ( I recommend Running Shoes if you think Jimmie is mediocre...) anyway... we know the truth, you obviously don't... and you know what ? that's ok...
and you know what ? that's your opinion and you're entitled to that...music is about connecting and feeling, you don't get him, no bigguie... I, on the other hand, am part of a legion of people that get his special talent... I really like his music... that's ok, we don't all have to like the same things...
Denny did an album in the 80s that Jimmie played on. It featured two awesome solos by Jimmie, one on 6 string bass and the other on lap steel. My buddy had the vinyl but lost it in a fire.
Denny Freeman wrote the song and he is the freaking lead. Go see his videos. watch the angela streli and kim wilson video and guess who the second guitar is. jimmie and denny played back in dallas when they were in high school . jimmies little bro was not out of grade school. later he grew up and was freemans 2nd...wonder where he learned his stuff ?
why you have to compare them? each one was really good musician in his way.
