Im a guitar player. This SOUND created, soothed and help guys and girls tell each other how they felt. Give credit to Greg. he played with "Yes" "Santana, and Journey, among others for his keyboard playing. His voice towers among many.
@secretpeeps Greg Rollie for sure. =) IF he wasn't such a jealous man and left when Steve Perry took over I think they could made more songs just like this. He was the keyboardist before Jonathan Cain.
@andross637 Oh I know totally agree I loved the sound then. Don't get me wrong I love pretty much everything Journey has put out there but for some reasons I always come back to those originals
@fastfallingstar89 It's been well documented that Greg didn't leave because of Perry. He left to be with his family because he was sick of always being on the road, and missing life, as he had also toured with Santana right before his Journey stint. He rewrote Feeling That Way specifically to include Perry, even though he didn't have to.
I think the biggest problem with today's rock music, is that the good ol rock music and soft rock is missing. Back in the day you had the heavy bands (like ratt, poison, def leppard, metallica etc) BUT you also had the softer rock bands (like styx, kansas, journey, boston etc). Todays music has some good metal bands, but what happened to the good ol rock bands (and im not talking about the wimpy ones today like Maroon 5 and crap like that). We are missing the soft rock and progressive rock
hey seanandtracey!! i totally agree with your perspective!! it's like the cars playing moving in stereo and not it's all mixed up after get it???? LOL thought you would LOL Loving the oldies but never moldies! PEACE
Most people know Perry played drums as a kids, in high school & in starter bands. The few that weren't aware of this should not be called "dumb". Don't be rude LabelBob. I was impressed with you & what you shared, until your mouth started revealing your character.
In addition to singing, Perry was also a drummer and involved in several different bands during the '60s/'70s, including such obscure local acts as the Nocturns, Dollar Bills, Sullies, Ice, Pieces
@89titchmitch I know this from being in the studio and watching him play a drum part on his solo album that the drummer could not get, please don't tell me what I saw with my own eyes was not what I saw.
In addition to singing, Perry was also a drummer and involved in several different bands during the '60s/'70s, including such obscure local acts as the Nocturns, Dollar Bills, Sullies, Ice, Pieces
@rubyshiningstar Correction - this is Gregg Rollie & Steve Perry. Fleischman was already gone by this time. Fleischman sang chorus on this with Rollie before Steve Perry came along. Once Steve was in the band, Fleischman was gone. Fleischman & Perry did not sing together.
i mentioned early October 1954 because i was born on October 2nd 1954. The same day Willie Mays and the NY Giants clinched the 1954 World Series upset sweep over the Cleveland Indians.
My first favorite era of music is from early October 1954 to June 1973 when I graduated from High School. My 2nd favorite is from April 1977 to August 1984.
This music was released when I was in high school ('75 - '79) and college (''79 -'84) and I hear what the young people here are saying. This music was melodic, solid, deeper and more impactful than most anything in popular music today. I am happy to have been there, but the great thing is that it is still all there to rediscover for everyone now.
@soyounoat have you heard rock sugars album. that's a little better than this. im 14 now. just did. music makes me wish i was born in the early 80s. I LOVE this stuff. i think other people should too
@soyounoat Wish I had the privilege of living in those wonderful times in which music was still something to die for. I still hope for a better tomorrow though.
This tune and "Lights" shows the virtuosity of Journey's rock; The voice of Steve Perry and the guitar of Neal Schon were unbelievable. One of the greatest rock band ever.
@45Thunderbird You know what the worst part is.........besides some of the great new metal bands.............pretty much everything else that's "the best music" right now are played in people's garages and houses. They're the ones with real soul. Most popular music nowadays sucks. Thank God for the classics like this gem from journey. I'm in love with the guitar in this song.
@45Thunderbird I love that back then the sounds were specific, you sang what you sang. I'm 22 and none of my generation's music could ever beat out Journey. Ever.
@fastfallingstar89 I used to work in Burtons selling suits when i was 16 and the manager had a grey mullet and used to play this same journey cassette over and over - and there was a version of this live - and i just remember them seeing ooooooh any time that you want me and it stuck in my head! and tonight I have finally found it after 22 years!!!! xxx
"I'm standing here, with my arms a mile wide... I'm hopin' and prayin' for you. Listen to me, and enlighten me... I'm hopin' you need me too" . It's you, sweet darlin' it's always been you... I adore you....
