  • Sounds like ass.

  • I've got a 1960 BX cab and thinking about trading my JCM 900 Hi Gain Dual Reverb 100w in on a JCM 800. I've been testing my new cab and head set to low mode 50w instead of Hi mode 100w due to AX + BX cabs recommended power brake if half stack..... stack is ok at 100w amp head... Too bad the 800 doesn't have the power mode feature.... Now, once I find a killer deal on a 800 it's gonna force to buy a AX cab to accompany my BX cab. Nice sound w/o mods or pedals brother... Peace

  • What do you mean "I know it's Green Day" ?? They're the best fucking band on the planet! Great demo btw.

  • wow I never new marshall made good amps :D jk

  • how loud is it? can u use it for bedroom volumes?

  • hey man, great demo!!!! i have a question though because im planning to buy on of these amps cuz they sound amazing! can you use an A/B box pedal to switch between the two inputs high and low? thank you in advance ;)

  • F'N ROCK!

  • Thank you for this video. Way too many lead demos out there, not enough videos demonstrating what this sounds like when playing chords.

  • Lol this may sound stupid, but how do you get that crunch sound from this amp? I saw that there's no gain or overdrive knob.

  • @tmblacktrack Its a tube amp. The speaker is overdriven...to point of distortion...thats what makes "Marhsall Distortion" Good.

Adrenechrome - Titans Fall....Thats proper Marshall JCM 800 tone.

  • @MetalBladeCan Alright, thanks. I figured it had something to do with the tubes. Lol I was just wondering cause I know Avenged Sevenfold uses these, and they sound pretty overdriven.

  • holy shit that sounds awesome

  • What was the master volume here?

  • it's just plain beautiful! I wish these were not so expensive here where I live. Perhaps you could traffic some to me? hahah lol just kidding. Nice demo man. Really liked the tone on the Blitzkrieg Bop.

  • I had read that there is a slight Tone diff. in the 50 & 100W V/M Heads besides the headroom? I also read that a power brake is recommended if your using a Marshall 100W Head because of the Greenbacks? Trying to decide between this cab the 1960 TV cab & the Vintage/Modern Cab. I love the tone of the greenbacks. A friend told me to put 2 Lynchback 50W speakers in a Whitebox 2x12 Cab for a greenback sound with more power handling.

  • NICE CHUNKY RIFFS VERY NICE INDEED

  • play some BlackFlag

  • hey bro do you think this amp would be cool to get a guns n roses appetite for destruction tone ? or do you think it would be better a vintage modern 2466 ? thanks man

  • I have a 2203 and I still can't get the exact tone I want. what do you have this dialed in at? it sounds pretty damn great.

  • thanks for posting this great video!!! this kind of amp-testing is just what i'm looking for :)

  • Nuttin but Balzzzz. The percussive quality of this amp is awesome.Nice chaka chaka when you rake the strings. Check out Karma to Burn......will puts his Les Paul and JCM 800 to good use. Peace.

  • Nice video, its very important to hear rythm stuff too

  • because of your demo, when i planed buying amp, i decided to go for jcm 800...and found one from 1981 :) ...that amp is the best amp ever - period....and because of that i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart !

  • @TheDavke Hahaha, you're welcome man!

  • great job classic tone badarse !!!

  • I have the (97)Framus Dragon amp. I run 4 amps for my tone and an array of guitars.. I run,(97)Framus Dragon,(81)JCM800,Mesa Boogie 50 caliber(original small tubes),and a (72)Fender Twin Reverb(modifieded to early 60,s Blackface) (81) Mesa Boogie Simul-Class 295 Power amp, Into 6 1960 A+B Cabs..Lemme tell ya.the earth moves when its all cookin hehe. I can get ANY tone I'm after.

  • Nice review of a straight guitar-amp tone.... I'm SOOOO tired of seeing people demo'ing a piece of gear that is out of the price range of most people (65amps) or doing their demo through an effects loop... I wanna hear how the amp/guitar will sound through whatever gear I currently have.... good review!!!

  • such a nice tone...really tempted to get one.

  • I read somewhere that the JCM-800 actually puts out more than the stated 100 watts. It said to be careful when pairing it up with the 4x12 greenback cab. I wonder why this is since Marshall makes both products. I'm trying to find a 800 or a Vintage/Modern Head to trade my MEsa Roadster head for.

  • Best Marshall had ever imo.

  • i feel awful. i had a jcm 800 lead combo and sold it because it was too loud. I MISS IT also i sold it for 800 US$ !

  • @porfidox lol I have the same problem, I could barley play mine because I live in a small ass apartment

  • You kill it brother!

    -Steve

  • Les Paul Studio?

  • really bad tone.

  • @007erjon I think his tone is nice and warm. The cabinet is the best Marshall cab IMO. It has a vintage bloom to it, nice and warm.

  • @ApeLikeCreature I agree, the amp is awsome. But it's totally ruined by the LP and this guys playing. it just sounds boring.

  • does have this apm distortion?? or have only clean?

  • @witallll6

    learn how to type jackass

  • rOCK N rOLL...!!

  • 0:50 Blitzkrieg Bop :D

  • Awesome man !!! nothing like the Gibson Marshall combo

  • haha dude when i first looked at your left arm i thought your elbow was double-jointed, then i noticed its some sort of tattoo or scar

  • One of the best demos I've heard.

  • @SYMONCHAOS The amps with the "little toggle" was made for sale in "Canada" NOT the US.. Hope that helps..< ^ :

  • best amp ever

  • probobly the best amp rig ever

  • i love the combination of your pickup covers

  • Do you have to turn up the volume alot to get a good sound? for metal or something, I wa thinking of getting this amp but I dont know if it will be too loud for an apartment :S

  • 100 watt ?

  • @00NeVaN00 yes:)

  • ramones? you should be playing slayer with that

  • i want a marshall head, no fking job and seek for tone forever!

  • How are the greenbacks for this amp? I have a Marshall Anniversary Series cab with the standard 75 watt speakers and it just sounds WAY too bright. Would you recommend a Greenback cab instead?

  • A 2203 is the only amp you'll ever need

  • Is it possible for the JCM800 give out a completely clean, even tone, with no crunch or interference?

  • @DoobleyDooBAH Yes, it has 2 inputs, the bottom input is clean. You can also get a clean tone from the top input by turning down the gain and your guitar volume.

  • yeah. you have to use the volume on your guitar. The bottom input isn't clean, its just lower gain. But most people don't get a jcm800 for only clean tones.

  • Did you have to wear earplugs while making this video?

  • Turn the volume control half way down=great blues tone.

  • the blitzkrieg BOP.

  • HEY HO!!

  • thanks flagstamp, this is what I call a demo, as opposed to the showing off of so many egomaniacs...great tone!

  • Hey, excellent.

I always hate it when people just play around on single strings when introducing amps.

This is exactly what I need to judge, so thaaaank you.

Love the sound I'm gonna get one of those off ebay :)

  • The green day made me fall in love Next buy =D

  • dude that must have been loud...master on 2.5... i got the same amp from 1983 and i cant go further than 2 not even on gigs, in big locations :)

  • Sounds nice, too bad I can't find one for 300 bucks. Hell, I don't even think you can get an accurate 800 kit for 300 anymore. I used almost exclusively EL-84 amps for rhythm guitar for so long because it allowed me to not do any post comp, eq, or processing of any kind on guitars, which makes a big difference in the final mix. Now though, I'm starting to entertain the idea of an 800 with KT88's, just for the high-gain palm-muted rhythm stuff. Nice demo.

  • @AdamRainStopper

Shoot for a Peavey Butcher. 120w amp for $300. Kinda ugly in some opinions, but very well built. 6L6's, sounds just like a JCM 800 but has more growl. Don't get the new one, get the 80's version.

  • are you sure are you using the without pedals? no od? no booster?

  • great demo man. I appreciate it!

  • fuck u punk head bastard!

  • Thank you for posting a demo for rhythm players, first one I've seen with playing style and sound I can relate to. Majority of the vids I've seen are just some old dude playing 80's hair metal for 6 minutes. Great rig.

  • love the green day!!!! :D this amp seems very built for strong rhythm sections, and i agree that with a pedal or two, this amp gives a very strong lead. but with just the natural bypass, i find the sound much more appealing

  • how old is that cab ?

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • good greenday or blink 182 sound

  • nice green day song!

  • have you gotten a std or custom since this video was made if so how does it sound?

  • Sounds Ugly , dont know if its your micro, but this Sound is terrible

  • Comment removed

  • Marshall JCM 800s are just the ultimate amps. Period. Probably the most veratile, too. When you really crank that bastard you can even get some pretty extreme Metal distortion outta it. Awesome.

Hoping to score one of these for cheap myself, actually...^^

  • what is the second song you play around 1:35 into vid?? like the guitar work..very cool amp.

  • PUNK SHIT

  • Man I wish I had the money for this little slice of heaven...

  • Thanks so much for putting this video up, I play ramones style punk and wanted to know how this amp handled that style, looks like I found the perfect video.

  • Yeah, i got one of these just a few months ago. Fell in love with it. I"m scared to crank the master volume above one though cuz it blows the hell out of my room. Plus, paper thin walls doesn't help. If you're wondering how lucky this guy really is, the original head from 1982, which is what I have as well, is worth about $1200 alone. So yeah, this guys a lucky bastard. But I'm luckier considering I got mine from my cousin for free. :)

  • @tj2214 you lucky dog you man

  • Oh my God, I love the tone! I'd love to hear some Lit, Offspring or Third Eye Blind on that! I'm thinking DSL50/100, JCM 800, or TSL 100. Do you have any experience with those other amps? And if you're ever interested in selling... :D

  • Comment removed

  • great sounding amp.. just curious have you ever played the soldano HR50 the older ones that were single channel if so how does it compare to jcm 800 2203

  • @ItsChrispyTv dude WATCH THE TITLE!!!

  • Attitude! ya got some fkin attitude!

  • Excluding the guitar how much did all of that cost you? love the vid :)

  • @SchoolOfGuitar100 Hey man. I got a really lucky score on the head for $300 because the seller thought it was broke. Turned out to be a bad fuse holder. I picked up the cab used for $500. Total of $800 for head and cab.

  • @flagstamp that seller deserve to be slapped for selling it for 300.

  • @johann12 I totally agree! But I think Flagstamp may disagree ;)

  • @dinoman89 if I were Flagstamp, Il bitch slap him but still take the amp

  • @flagstamp what is the second song you play after Blitzkrieg bop.....Way cool amp BTW

  • @flagstamp haha no way!! bad fuse holder!!

  • @flagstamp 800$ for this?!?!?!? THAT SIR, IS A FUCKING STEAL!

  • @flagstamp you basically got a rig that would normally cost double what you payed for it

  • Great sound man, one thing I think is worth mentioning is the greenbacks in the cab take the sweet mids of the JCM 800 to a whole new place with that "wood" kind of tone color.

  • at last... someone who plays chords instead of silly solos....

  • Master and pre amp was on ?

  • This guy's good considering he has only been playing 3 weeks!!

  • Good for metal. Push it using actives and an mm-04. Single channel ftw! I haven't yet heard a new model Marshall that has the same raw sound as the jcm 800. I reckon JVMs have too much scaling gain and un bypassed circuits in their board. They don't have the same epic mids.

  • @JayJapanB

i dont know if youve ever played a JVM or not, but theyre really worth looking at. i agree, when you dont know how to dial them in (takes a few months of owning one at least) they can sound lifeless and almost sound like a solid state amp. but once you learn its sweet spots then these beasts come to life! the main thing for me and most other JVM owners is to keep the gain below 6 (on the od channels). anything over this and the sound gets very compressed and muddy.

  • is your jcm800 a reissue amp or an original??

  • I'm really considering saving up for one of the re-issues (but also looking for an original 2203 on ebay) my friend was gigging with one of the LE orange 2203s yesterday and the MV was on 2, the floor was bloody shaking lmao

  • Its worth mentioning here to everyone, that a camera mike does not pick up low-end. ...

  • that thing sound great for only having the master @ 2.5! at 2.5, the power tubes are only just starting to kick in. This thing must sound AMAZING with the master around 5 or 6. Have you ever gotten it that loud before?

  • JCM800's are pretty much the go-to amp for most punk rock bands these days, they sound great using a P90 equipped guitar too, I just saw the flatliners/teenage bottlerocket. Both bands have 2 guitarists, all 4 were using 80's JCM800's and all 4 sounded awesome and punchy

  • RAMONES!!!YEAH,COOL TONE!

  • Nice crunchy sound! I keep the gain at 7 on mine, plenty of gain and once you get to the Master at the 5-6 sweet spot you don't need much more. Great tone.

  • i too have an original 800 from early 80s, only difference is the power and standby switches are the little toggle ones as opposed to the ones you have but still a beautiful amp none the less, i just boost the gain a little with a super overdrive

  • @SYMONCHAOS The amps with the "little toggle" was made for sale in "Canada" NOT the US.. Hope that helps..< ^ :

  • @SYMONCHAOS The amps with the "little toggle" was made for sale in "Canada" NOT the US.. Hope that helps..< ^ :

  • Thanx a lolt!

  • is it possible to get a warmer tone out of it? it's so harsh

  • man i want something that sounds great for judas priest, doesn't cost 1-2 gs, and not so loud that i can play it in my bedroom and not kill something

do you know something like that?

  • @UnchainTheNight1

What kind of judas priest sound? It changed a lot over the years. I think they sounded best in the 70s

  • @steelwizard Around the early 80s, I really love the tones on Point of Entry.

  • @UnchainTheNight1

I believe they used Marshall Super Leads Amps (at pretty loud volume) pushed with MXR Distortion+ Pedals in that era, at least live.

  • @ItsChrispyTv Hey man, thanks for watching. This is an original JCM 800 from 1982, not a reissue. I was lucky enough to find it locally in Tampa in nice shape with no mods.

  • lol you should change the pickup cover to gold so it matches the neck great playing btw

  • what where your setting man

  • hey dude , i'll maybe get that amp , and i'm juste a player who plays in his bedroom... so i just wanna know if with a small volume we can have a good sound

    thanks

    nice vid

  • @Neylus thatd be a waste, just get a low wattage amp like a Jet City or an Egnater

  • Great stuff...do you find the Greenbacks too fizzy for hard rock and metal? Also I assume the head's 100w and the cab is definitely 100w and cranked could blow the speakers.

  • @5150VanAlien No I don't think I'd describe greenbacks as fizzy. I'd say they are pretty smooth sounding but what I think they might lack is an emphasis on bass that many metal dudes would normally want. The head is 100 watts but it's loud enough to where I don't have to push it all the way to hear over drummers.

  • @5150VanAlien I have the same amp and cabinet. Greenbacks are traditionally 15W speakers (x4 = 60W total per cab). Pushing 100W through a 60W cab is what gives you the classic rock sound that is impossible to emulate properly IMO. It's basically what Hendrix used to use. Plug in a modern guitar with a bridge humbucker and you get a sensational rock sound like G n R Slash for example. The major downside is that you need the amp cranked up to 8+ to drive the speakers (danger of breaking windows).

  • Great sound, but you only play punk! Rock'N'Roll - Blues guitar solos for the marshall plexi sound!!! ;-)

  • would u consider selling this amp?

  • @slash1128 No, I'm gonna hold on to this one. I watched a few of your vids. You're great man, keep it up.

  • @flagstamp thanks man i appreciate it

  • whats the second riff you play?....i reconize it from somewhere......the one right after the ramones riff

  • Btw, I bought this amp today because I loved how it sounded when I tried it but I went to try it because I loved the sound you got so much in THIS video. Thank you!!!

  • really nice tone! and the greenbacks with their mid range kinda tone as you say sounds fantastic with the amp, really intresting combination.

  • Are you running any pedals? If not I am sold on this amp..

  • @carvin1657 Yeah, the guitar was plugged straight into the amp. No pedals in the signal, not even a tuner.

  • Hey dude, I think you should switch out that Gibson '57 Classic out for a DiMarzio Super Distortion if you're playing punk. Just ask Brian Baker from Bad Religion! That's what he does with all of his Les Pauls!

  • This is a great video dude. Good riffs through an 800 with the preamp cranked to 10. No bullshit. Thank you!

For those of you worried about gain at lower levels, I went for a JCM 900 Mk III 2500 (50 watt) which is essentially an 800 with a 2nd gain knob. I find the extra gain really helps, and it's switchable down to half power (25 watts) which I almost always run the amp at. As a former 800 owner, I just found the top end to be too brittle - it's an extremely bright amp. 800's do rule though!

  • do you still get that much gain at jamming volume?

  • yeah, that's the magic of a master volume Marshall. You can crank up the preamp gain to distort the preamp tubes, then use your normal volume to adjust how loud the amp is. The louder you turn it though, the better it sounds because now the power tubes are distorting too.

  • @flagstamp yo dude would u recommend the cab for heavy metal. i can't find the cab any where in a guitar store so i can't try it out

  • @headbagger63 I don't think this is the right cab for metal because it doesn't put out the low end that a standard 1960a does. The greenbacks in this cab also have a midrange hump to them that you would typically try to scoop out for heavier music. I'd recommend the 1960a with G12T-75 Celestions. I think it better suited for metal and it's cheaper, but if you find a 1960 Classic, it has Greenbacks in it too so you can hear the differences.

  • Positvely outstanding! I run a JCM 2000 DSL 100 with a 1960A cabinet and a les paul studio w/ a 498T in the bridge. I get a decent tone but those greenbacks just bring your sound to life, even with a bad mic!

  • hey ho let's go ! , cool vid dude ! ;)

  • Can this amp getme a Van Halen tone?

  • I'm guessing you mean the early stuff. Eddie used a late 60's Marshall Super Lead 100 on the first couple albums. The 2203 actually started off as a JMP 2203 in 1975. It's not the same circuit as those early Plexi amps but it is an evolution of them. In other words, it has the familiar Marshall tone that made them famous. So, I'd say that you can get some Van Halen"ish" tones from this amp. Lots of volume and a mildly hot pickup are gonna help sustain and harmonics.

  • hey dude! your jcm 800 is a re-issue?

    green day rules!

  • @flagstamp Eddie had JCM 800s on his live rig in the early 80s.

  • is this at bedroom volume? im 14 and i like slash. can i get his tone from the 800 stock at bedroom levels?

  • I'm playing here a bit louder than bedroom level. Many people think that just because it's a half stack or a 100 watt head, it sounds like crap at low volumes but I don't think so. I use this rig to practice at home at bedroom volumes all the time and I still find the tone to be inspirational.

  • can i get slashs tone at bedroom volumes stock? wat about a hotplate? would that help much?

  • I think you can get a reasonable Slash tone at bedroom volume. I will say that in older Marshall amps, the power tube distortion is a major part of the amp's tone. That type of distortion can only come through cranking the amp up, in which case you'll definitely need a hotplate or similar device.

If you're on the fence about buying an 800, I'd say get one. It's the amp that was used on 'Appetite'. After that he used a Silver Jubilee.

  • just a quick correction

on appetite, slash used a 1959t super tremelo that was modded by having the tremelo removed and replaced with an extra gain stage. he may have used an 800 for his appetite clean sound and he feinately used the jcm 800 for his dirty on illusions.

  • @Hughespipe for live he used Marshall JCM 2555 Silver Jubilee made in 1987.

  • @headbagger63

yeah thats right jubilees were his live sound for some appetite tour and most illusions.

he switched from the jubilees to his signature slash head near the end of the illusions tour when all his jubilees were trashed in the st lois riot.

  • @Hughespipe According to Total Guitar interview, it was a 1959SLP.

  • 1:34 .. Your annotation shows us exactly why this amp isnt absolutely perfect. You can't crank it as easily!!! I'd love to have a 20 watt JCM800. Then, it'd be the perfect stage volume and still get cranked

  • yes, i rarely get a sound guy that is loving my stage volume. it's a tough compromise between tone and volume.....and i'm not interested in power soaks.

  • Exactly why I play an Orange Tiny Terror head. I get my power tubes workin AND i get to keep my hearing (mostly)

  • its ok to like green day brother! I personally cant stand the fucks but you go!

  • very pinchy treble..... whats your settings?

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!!

It sounds sick even on YouTube. You showcased what its uses are very well.

  • What's that second song you play, after Blitzkrieg?

  • it's just an original riff that my brother came up with.

  • Sounds good. There's a song in there somewhere!

  • One more thing...What kind of tubes did you put in there?

  • I have Tung-Sol EL34 power tubes with Electro Harmonix and Tung-Sol pre's. I did alot of reading and tried out several major brands of current production tubes but the Tung-Sols made the biggest impact.

The Greenback speakers were also huge in helping my sound. They give a mid range crunch that some other Celestions tend to scoop out.
