  • How long do you rehearse a song until you tape it? I have a lot of songs stick in "muscle memory" that I can play about 90% accurately (to my ear) but have to play a few times to get them down 100%. Do you retain songs and just play them?

  • All I can say is "Wow". Great job.

  • Love the overhead shot starting at 03:29

  • Superb VT editing, but it would have been an even better video if you had altered the tuning of the kit between each take so the two copies sounded slightly different. Fantastic job, though...

  • AWESOMEEEEEEE!!!!100* Bravo Joe&Joe :))))))))))

  • @02jhump It is just an overlay of the bass drum camera stuck on the front - everything is done as a layer so it is just the top layer - You just cut a circle around the video and you get that effect - Hope that helps

  • Your vids are always amazing, Joe!

  • @vineyardedge Thanks so much for your kind comments - I really appreciate them

  • Quote "Both drummers are the same people overlayed onto one screen."

    WOW, fantastic video Thumbsup !!!

  • @tonyhenfrey Thanks - I kept getting messages like "Who is the other drummer?" Thanks again

  • great job, bravo!

  • Great job..you've obviously done a tremendous amount of homework.

It might have been interesting to use different heads, less muffling, etc. on 1 of the kits just to cover a little more sonic territory.

Regardless - great playing, great work...congratulations!!

  • @geoffreydlang Yes There was a lot of things that I could have done but it was very confusing at the time and I'm surprised it came out halfway decent. I really want to do another but time is so precious these days. Thanks again

  • @geoffreydlang Well I tried to play the same thing on different drums kinda changing it up a little. It''s a neat concept and I really want to try to make another. Thanks again

  • whoa

  • Dude, you could have toured w/ Genesis! Damn!

  • @klwewf Dude - I wish I could have toured w/ Genesis

  • Absolutely amazing! The playing, the editing, superb!

  • That was just incredible :)

  • Well done man! That was great.

  • wicked - top playing

  • @chriswhitehead Thanks - I plan on doing another of my own!

  • Are those octobans, or really small toms? please reply.

  • @BandaDK Those are 6", 8", 10", 12" 13" 14 etc. all from the same Tama set.

  • @TheDrumChannel

Alright thanks. What kind of Tama set is it? I got the Superstar Hyperdrive myself.

  • @BandaDK Tama Imperialstar - 1981

  • @TheDrumChannel

Sweet man. Thanks for the reply.

  • Making this video might be as difficult as playing this drum duet :) Good goin!

  • @Wakinshaw It was a bit of a challenge but I've gotten better at it since then. I plan on making another one of just me playing - thanks

  • Great duet! What are you playing at 3:38? Is it just single stroke 32nd notes around the toms? Cheers...

  • @MattScales I'm not good at explaining notation but the first drum has 5 strokes starting with the right hand with the accent on the first and fifth notes. The next lower drum has four strokes , starts with the left hand and has the accent on the first note. The rest of the drums follow the same pattern as the 2nd drum. I know its hard to pick out because there is actually two of me playing the same lick at the same time but I think that is what I did. I'll see if I can find the orig.

  • LIke the drum pedal in the front to see what your foot is doing. The cage melody it pretty dead on! Like this solo, very creative! YOu put a lot of time on this!!! Very impressive!!

  • @Bjaykell Thanks so much - yes was a lot of time in this one.

  • you're such a hilarious character... and a great drummer. shame that phil is not playing anymore...

  • @abrahamck I'd like to make another one - I think I will soon! Thanks -

  • How long did it take to edit this?

  • @cjphoto1 About 2 months! - It was a long process but I have learned a lot since then - I imagine it would be easier now

  • this was awesome!! and I love your drumset

  • @MrJesseG123 Thanks

  • @sidneywatts42 - Probably the same as you - I still have to get up and go to work everyday :) Thanks

  • Late 80s Duet.....If I am not mistaken........

Not any group or artist can touch PC and Chester's duets !

    EPIC !

  • @excelerater Thanks!

  • so cool... I've watched their real solo a million times ... never thought one dude could cover it. Great drumming. I love it.

  • @sm57co Thanks - It was more of an experiment to see if I could put 2 people up there - thanks

  • Heard it, but not paying much attention to that solo (Collins - Thompson) till now....nice playing mister...and nice work!

  • @jazsyo Thanks - I appreciate that

  • Really good cover dude. But I think you shouldn't use as many video effects as you are using (such as the bass pedal hitting the *front* of you base drum.

  • @LtWhiteWolf - Well you wouldn't be able to see it if it was in the back so I thought I'd put it in the front. For me, this was more like an experiment in video editing than a drum solo. Thanks

  • @TheDrumChannel Thanks long time ago i was wondering when the bass Drum was played so when i saw it in the front help me a lot!! thanks

    PS GREAAATT COVER

  • I wonder if Phil and Chester have some sort of copyright on this duet? LOL.

  • @firstmusic00 Hope not...

  • I enjoyed that a lot!

    Great playing and editing dude!

    Fraser

  • hahaha now that was certainly a unique take on the duet... very slick! I bet pc and ct would get a chuckle out of this. Very well done!

  • WOW! That was absolutely FANTASTIC! I love this video! You really have a lot of talent! GREAT JOB! Greetings from Poland - wikorybek :-)

  • Such a great great work ! It's really awsum !! You say I am a good drummer, but YOU are gifted !!

  • nice try!!

  • Man, I've just discovered this! It is AWESOME! Great video, Joe. You are a master, my friend.

  • @PookLowEnd Thanks Pook - and thanks for posting that video about Rob - Really nice

  • @envoy2010 - glad you liked it. Thanks so much

  • This is excellent! Well done.

    peace,

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 Thanks Tim

  • I remember hearing this duet live back in the eighties. Terrific job Joe. I'm glad you featured it again. Your roadie did a great job too! :)

  • @LesGomez - Thanks - it was more of an expirrment with the process than a solo.

  • powerful :P

  • @jamiequinlan Thank You

  • Nice copy, Cool!

  • @markn003 Thanks - Appreciate it.

  • @markn003 Thank You

  • AMAZING! I don't know what to say! But great post thanks guys!

  • @mgzt190plus - you mean guy - there is only one person playing :)

  • oh man...without words....you are the MASTER...excellent, see you

  • @arita3000 Thanks

  • Awosme video i love phill Collins! XD XD

  • holy sheet batman! wow! pretty much speechless

  • @soulsistahmel

Glad you liked it. It was fun to do as well

  • I like this very much..it´s so cool.

  • @carirri

Thanks - I'm trying to find the time to do another one. It's better the second time around. Thaks again

  • Even the figure of America's national debt is to low for a number to rate this video...Fantastic - Awesome....I Thought I could play but this was Brilliant

    Thanks

    Phill collins

    (joke)

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a nice comment. I really appreciate the kind words. i plan on doing another one with three of me in there! i just have to get everyone together!

    Thanks again

  • you look like your enjoying yourself.? LOL.. simply awesome!!!!!

  • excellent :)

  • Thanks

  • And plus Phil is a weird drummer in some respects, he lets his Right hand (the 2nd if you're a leftie non drummers!) lead some of the bars whereas chester just plays it straight!

  • I tell you something, i know this one and the 1987 tour one off by heart and save for the gated reverb of Phils drum sound you'd've fooled me!

  • Great - I did something right! Thanks again

  • Comment removed

  • Pretty close to the way Chester and I used to play it. Great job!

  • Who is I? Written like that, one might think you are Phil - you could be - or you could not be. Whoever you are - thanks for the comment - and thanks Chester and Phil for the solo.

  • Cool video! That has to be hard to imitate both those excellent drummers! Sounds excellent Joe!

  • The hardest part was the editing. Thanks

  • Joe we love your behind the lines drumming & vidio now we seen you in your duet vedio & we loved it, you have personality as well as incredible TALENT. thanks for sharing your talent with us we truly enjoy it. mike & familey

  • Great - I'm glad you like these videos - Thanks for the kind words too.

  • very good

  • Thanks so much

  • Hi Joe!

I know I've commented before on this but I wanted to tell you that I just showed your video to a friend who was just blown away by your drumming & your video !!!

    Had to tell you :)

    Kim

  • Thanks for spreading the word! I want to do another one with 3 drummers but I have to wait for me, myself and I to all become available! :) I would also have a better understanding of the process the second time around as this was a lot of luck that it came out like this. Thanks so much.

  • Thanks Joe i am extremely excited to see Your Shinin On performance what your doing here is Great Keep it up

  • Thanks - I believe Don Brewer is so underrated and produced a lot of good drum riffs for his day and his age at the time.

  • I'm sure it was confusing to make, but you always turn out good stuff Joe. Fab!

  • Thanks Dave - I appreciate it

  • mate this is one of the best drumming videos on you tube without a doubt

  • Thanks - I was a lot of fun making it as well. Thanks again

  • This is really awesome!

  • Cool video !! Love it!

  • Thanks - glad you enjoyed it. It was very confusing to make it but fun as well.

  • well what can i say ?. collins might have been in a good band but he´s far away from beeing a good drummer, maybe 30 years ago he was good but today .....

  • Wow - I think Phil is one of the better drummers out there. I agree the stuff he did in BrandX runs circles around the stuff he has put out since they went top 40 but he still has some good sounding original drum patterns. Besides, I heard he is now suffering from a spinal injury and can't play any more. Let's cut him a break.

  • The duet is so cool dudes, most awesome. It's gone straight into my faves to watch as a daily booster.

    Keep on rocking.

  • Wow!! this is really nice!! :D But i got one question. Do you do the video editing your self? beacuse it's really cool :D

  • Yes I do -

  • Dunno if you are, but you should be, on stage playing in front of millions thruout America in your band, or someones band.

You are a gifted person, and thanks for sharing your talents.

  • Thanks so much. Well I'm on the stage but there doesn't seem to be anyone in the seats! Glad you are enjoying these videos. I plan to keep making more and coming up with new ways to show them. Thanks so much

  • that a ludwig super sensitive snare u using?

  • Herzlichen Glückwunsch ... Congratulations ...

    Performing and Idea = 1***

  • Thanks so much - It was a lot of work doing this but turned out to be a lot of fun.

  • great job. wish i could do that. what kind of set do u use?

  • Tama Imperialstar

  • Totally shoulda took it right into Los Endos. Still kick ass anyway! Awesome job!

  • Thanks - Never though of that but you are right - ending on that last note right into los Endos would have really worked. Thanks again

  • PC saw this and said...your trying to put him out of a job.....Good Work

  • That's funny - Thanks

  • Excellent job!

  • this is awesome...im a 13 year old drummer thats been playing almost evryday for almost 6 years and i hope i can someday be this good

  • Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed it. . You just keep playing to records and thats all you need to do. Spend your free time on the drums instead of the computer. Save all your money and buy a house so no one can tell you it's too loud. I think I covered the next 15 years for you. Thanks again so much. Comments like that is what makes me want to do more.

  • you are a great drummer!!

  • Thank You - Where are your vids? Would love to see em..

  • Whoa! This is great on so many levels--playing, editing, effects, etc. In a word, INCREDIBLE! 5 stars of course!

  • Thanks Dave - You ain't too shabby yourself. I still wanna do a drum jam with you - I haven't seen that out on YouTube yet - Take care my friend

  • Goddamn it, where the hell are you located? I wanna do a duet with you... Don't ever put the sticks down as I did. As always, excellent!

  • Are you still playing? if not - why did you stop? I'm from the NYC area

  • although it's not really your song, it's unique in a complete new way,,, this is great stuff man!!!

  • i have never seen those bass drums before they are pretty sweet. oh and by the way this video rocks

  • hey man that was sick!!!! love the effects!!!! very cool...how dare youtube take any of your stuff off..screw copyright lol..u rock man...u gotta a new fan for sure!

  • Thanks for the comment - This was more of a lesson in video editing then playing the drums - I'm glad you enjoyed it - More to come

  • Will do as long as the YouTube police don't come and take them away! Thanks

  • Talk about playing with yourself!

Hahha just kidding :) Seriously - good stuff man and certainly unique. Only thing that would have sent it completely over the top was to use the video fx to mirror image one set to have it laid out like PC's :)

Good stuff man, look forward to more!

  • You know that effect makes you kinda look like your playing lefty as well. Your right, I never thought of that one but it would have fit perfect here. Great idea. If i ever do one of PC's again, I'll try it - thanks

  • As always ~ YOU ROCK DUDE! Amazing note for note rendition and great editing!!! Best part is both of you are having a BLAST! :}

  • It was fun, except for switching into the sweaty shirts every 5 min! Thanks

  • This is seriosly jaw dropping. I don't wanna know how much time it took to do this :)

  • It didn't really take much time to film or edit (excluding rendering) - what took forever was getting it to play on youtube correctly. I've still have not see a video on YouTube at 1280 that plays without motion that jitters. As you can see I didn't fill the screen. I can only get it as wide as 780 before I get the "jitters"!

  • And man,, i forgot about your timing,, thats what should make this legendary !!!:P

  • Probably the best special effects seen in a drumvideo on YouTube. Your editing skills are incredible. The drumming itself is amazing, as always on this channel. 5*

  • very nice video man, I love it

    10/10

  • Awesome video, cant wait for the next one.

  • Thanks

  • Thank You, you have given us the greatest gift in the world! I actually had the idea to do this a year ago but I need a drumkit first. ^w^

  • what an amazing vid! can tell you put a lot of time in this

  • More than you want to know - Thanks - glad you enjoyed it.

  • cool video!

  • Thank You

  • Yea it turned out real good in HD. No wait time for the feed to build on this end, the intro with the kit moving was a little shaky or jittery, but barly noticable.

Virtual Purple trailer just came out, and he is in that too.

  • It's only a matter of time....

  • Gah, everytime I watch this I am more impressed by it.

  • Thanks Eric - glad you enjoyed it.
