My uncle brian told me to listen to this song because im 18 and in the U.S Army, and in about 6 months to a year im heading over seas. he's scared that i wont come back, he thinks i dont know that but i know. This is my first deplyment. Honestly i dont know what to think. The onlything I'm worryed about is if im coming home or not.

PJ's are considered a combat outfit, however they really only see combat during the "extraction phase" of the rescues. They are more designed to rescue downed pilots.
Wilderness survival is actually a stronger suit for PJ's believe it or not...
I do not know if this is out of place people seemed to get a response earlier but I can not decide between Green Berets or Pararescue any ssuggestions?
@sillysocialists green beret if you wanna be a killing machine pararescue if you wanna save people both important but if wanna have a family i dont suggest either
@sillysocialists The thing about it is that Green Berets are selected from other US Army SF groups. Not to try and burst your bubble but it will mean that you have to not only pass all the basic SF training requirements but EXCEL in them and with your initial unit (or two).
The other thing to consider is last time I checked AF PJ (pararescue) school is 18+ months long. Not that this is a bad thing, however realize that most of this will be spent in the field incommunicado from the world.
@inthehomeland If I am not mistaken I thought that the PJ were a combat out fit and what I want to do is be a Combat Rescue officer to be specific not sure the only reason I would want to be a green beret was because via boyscout I have excelled in wilderness survival which if I am not mistaken is a major part of being a green beret.

@sillysocialists green berets train locals to do the fighting, they do some of it themselves but that's they're primary mission.
pararescue does exactly what it's name says. they go in and rescue our guys behind enemy lines.
obviously it's up to what you really want to do. pm me if you have any other questions

@sillysocialists The thing about it is that Green Berets are selected from other US Army SF groups. Not to try and burst your bubble but it will mean that you have to not only pass all the basic SF training requirements but EXCEL in them and with your initial unit (or two).
The other thing to consider is last time I checked AF PJ (pararescue) school is 18+ months long. Not that this is a bad thing, however realize that most of this will be spent in the field incommunicado from the world.

@inthehomeland If I am not mistaken I thought that the PJ were a combat out fit and what I want to do is be a Combat Rescue officer to be specific not sure the only reason I would want to be a green beret was because via boyscout I have excelled in wilderness survival which if I am not mistaken is a major part of being a green beret.

The military isn't for everyone and if it isn't for you than it isn't, there is no shame in not joining any force. Some people aren't built for it and others don't agree with the things we go to war for or their protocols. People join for their own reasons and the other ones who don't have their reason to. my boyfriend plans on enlisting in December in active duty. we listened to this song together and i cried on his shoulder, he told me every friend he has got will look out for me...and if he doesn't make it back i have nothing to worry about. this song is very near and dear to my heart and every person fighting for our freedom deserves this. i appreciate every single one of them, and each one has a very special place in my heart, for they have made the ultimate sacrifice <3
