@agwhitaker 700 is already a hand full enough to take on 2 naval superpower. America and the British have over tens of thousands of ship across the globe.
It had the navy version of the 88 mm deck gun. It could not use the same ammo as the army version but still, it was 88 mm. It had a very good reputation. The larger type IX uboats had a 105 mm deckgun. And the commentator said 9 cm just because, well, maybe he didn't have time to say 88 mm... hehehe.
whoops.. i dropped my decimal point.. your are correct of course.. 21 inches aprox for the diameter.. i think it through me when he said 9cm gun instead of the good ol' 88mm ..
or maybe it's you who is mixing torpedo with a gun shell? Half a meter in diameter sounds about right for a thing that had to carry 280 kg of explosives for up to 14 km.
U-boat is known by Germans as Utterseaboat or under sea boat. The Type-VII is a legendary and feared by many during World War II. But it failed to halt the American from aiding England and ultimately win the war.
OK OK. I'm not a german so I only apply what I've seen in the Encyclopedia World War II. I think most of them were sunk by airstrike and Surface Hunter Killer group, a combanation of destroyer, crusiers and torpedo boats. I think......
nope. it was sunk in numbers cause german enigma was captured, so allies were able to figure out where they gonna hit and in a point u are right, cause of the increased protection
no. lol. you watch to many movies. the enigma didnt cause the mass sinking of u boats. what did was increeased and better airstrikeing and radar capabilities
half true buddy. of course it had something to do with capturing the enigma. it allowed to decode german orders in which area boat are or will be operating. THAT allowed to concentrate airforce and all the "Uboat hunting" forces to concentrate in this area. of course the usage of radar as well. there were more then on reasons but one of them was simply the enigma and allies operating in large convois even with carriers.
actually there isn't, U-boat is just an abbreviation to the German word for submarine but you are right in that there is a difference between ww2 subs (u-boats if you like) and modern subs, plus its a great sub to play in silent hunter 3 :)
Any ship was a snack for those uboats they were impressive

i understand this, im simply saying the capturing of the enigmas isnt the biggest single factor in the destruction of the uboat force.
