  • Much respect for this man.A technique you should practice over and over again!!!

  • please upload the entire thing

  • skatersmith(what a stupid fucking name)what makes you think that me, an 18stone bodybuilder, ex heavyweight boxer, ex para trooper would be knocked out cold by a cunt like thompson.get back on ya skateboard u fuckin wimp. thick cunt.

  • @MrBudgieman1 I'm very surprised that a man of your background indulges in online bickering and character assassination of this guy. If you read his books he comes across as a good man.

  • @MrBudgieman1 Temper temper

  • you can tell just by looking at this guy he would eat you alive lol

  • Tonight Geoff saved my life. He is a true saint!

  • Try to find his terrific book "The Elephant and the Twig", it's excellent life advice.

  • i dunno where this bloke lives but ive never came into a fight and dont think i ever will i think he should move area

  • @convict999con He's a bouncer, so he finds himself in the situation to use his developed skills almost daily.

  • @mtbkbmt oh that explains why hes in so many fights

  • chuk norris with no hair!!

  • horizontally striped shirt wearing opponent--could be a russian-be careful.

  • MRMOTORBIKEMANIAC i have read "watch my back" the biography by Thompson, so shut your fucking mouth.

SHADOW208 read "watch my back" and you will learn that he did beat up drunk kids when they didnt deserve it.

  • This is exactly why tai chi push hands really is valuable training. This is a better real world description than I have ever seen from a tai chi guy. Not because push hands is supposed to be "fighting," but because it is about awareness, sensitivity, and control. Exactly what is being presented here.

This is low level, basic push hands, but with a very real world understanding.

Empty, but full, capturing center, letting go of ego it's all here. This is great!

    It's just push hands.

  • @mrbudgieman he is not beating up drunk kids he deals with situations and learns to overcome fears and unless you have read his books or watched his dvds then shut ur mouth

  • Beating up drunk kids on a nightclub door doesnt make you tough thompson. Your a fucking joke.

  • @MrBudgieman1 you have the wrong impression of this man, he always recommends you talk your way out of a fight and is not a fan of violence. However this man can have a real fight and he has taken on some absolute monsters - this man is not a bully.

  • @MrBudgieman1 youd be out cold before you managed to get your finger out your arsehole if you got into a fight with geoff you thick cunt.

  • Why would i have sour grapes dappadan22? i just dont like bullies. they pick on people that cant fight back. i can fight back

  • Geoff Thompsons a bully who made his name beating up drunks. I take my hat off to the likes of Roy Shaw who stick up for people, an take on bullies. Not wankers likeThompson

  • @MrBudgieman1 sour grapes?

  • "fight 3 people by karate chopping a bundle of nerves under the armpit" or

"fight 3 people by punching the first cunt in the jaw, knocking him out, and scaring the shit outta the other 2"

to survive in a brutal world we need to live on fact, and this means realising the truth, not listening to a pack of horseshit that gets fed to us day in, day out.

The fence is the truth, the real way to get outta the shit, but people don't wanna hear it, so people still get raped, mugged and murdered.

  • Interesting... Although this is just a basic kung fu principle is it not? Hold your hands in front of you in a non-threatening manner, try to let a gap open so you can bait your opponent, etc... It's great for beginners but I like my opponent coming at me through the front door.

  • i have a question, what if he keeps getting in your face? do we back off and maintain the gap or do we lock our arms to prevent him getting closer?

  • @MrBonks1 thats wen u make use of a pre-emptive strike, peace!

  • Cheers good techneque Chris Parker put me onto your flicks from (martial art.com)

  • All martial artists need to spend 10 minutes with Geoff!!

  • @wongpongwooey I hade sex with a pig

  • someone moves their hands towards me- i get triggered to defend myself i- i see it as a move- youre right repeated is the only way- cause theyre looking for a fight so- sees any move as his justification to start-hell see it as a response to reply to your hands up towards him-try it-and judge for yourself-battered women/child will tell you what works

  • blimey if you can't fight, Geoff'll TALK em to death!

  • geoff thompson is the man.

  • I was recently almost in a fight. I managed to avoid violence without egos being hurt, but this was two or three days before Christmas and up to right now it still bothered me that I didn't do something, I kept replaying it in my mind, what could I have done better, what did I forget? BAM, this is it - I didn't put up a fence. I feel stupid now, but I did everything else well enough that nobody got hurt, but it goes to show, you gotta train under pressure or you won't do it when it counts.

  • u would make a good italian:)..something to learn there??thanks geoff

  • Great work dude

  • He is the best man in the business.

    Respect.

  • Geoff Thomson= Genius

  • but thats when u either distract a little and then palm slap him...= lights out or quickly punch him in the jaw like the vid shows. its all about the start of a fight. once u start controlling..which usually allows u to read the situation meaning u get the first hit...after that its all over when u dont hesitate to follow up with an eye rip...or a few elbows etc. its ALL about the start..then u have the advantage to either kick the shit out of him....or run like hell

  • im not joking...this looks like total bs but when u come up against some who does this WELL its very intimidating. u can just feel that the other guy is rdy for w/e and even as u contemplate throwing a punch u can just tell somehow u wouldnt be fast enough. This is a great way to let the guy kno....that u will fuck them up if u have to without making them more angry. ofc u always get the drunk idiot who will charge in or square up anyway ignoring the danger

  • my dad is good friends with geoff, and is in one of his books i think, great guy, the best ive ever seen, hands down

  • what?putting ypur hands on angry man -thats giving him the green light to attack-dont touch angry people-thats breaching their space

  • @lmollot It's used like a sensor, if the guy is gonna keep moving forward whilst the fence is up then you would strike then, it keeps abit of space between you and the aggressor. I understand your point but you would'nt use the fence unless the guy was giving you jip, if he shows anger at you touching him then take him out then only if he breaches your barrier I guess?

  • @lmollot that's kinda the point, you need to know if the guy is just a mouth and you can talk him down or if he's a genuine nut who wants to start swinging.

The fence is a guard that doesn't look like a guard, your hands are up, ready to defend or disrupt balance, while still being reassuring for those who can be subdued without violence.

  • Geoff talks real sense met him at a book signing years ago total gem of a man, the fence arm position looks a little like the bagua mill stone on guard posture, striking off the center definitely a bagua move. Nice to see that some of the modern concepts have a root back in the past.

  • The man is a legend. Since reading his bouncer books in the early 90s ive taken on board so much from the advice and help in his other books too, especially the Fear: friend to exceptional people book. Thanks Geoff.

  • To respect Geoff Thompson, i think he would prefer that people bought his videos rather than have them published for free on the internet.

  • my dad was this dudes friend, when he was a bouncer he let my dad in the club for free and shit. ;P

  • Watch this video to see the 3Secondfighter (which Geoff talks about in this video) in action. watch?v=Aj9VgnQCBfA

  • this guy is coming to my martial arts club this sunday for a muay thai seminar

  • @blutobelushi i cant remove this damn comment....

i was totally pissed = red eyed drunk as a skunk on 150 proof when i typed this ... so i was a bit looney....but i do deeply respect Geoff.

  • Thank God there's someone who thinks right. I myself had to learn all this all my own. I never thought of calling it a fence, just common sense. Good work man.

  • what does he say at about the 9 minute mark?

  • the fence thing is sort of instrinctive anyway. iv always used that in confruntations. never knew i was using martial arts :)

  • Geoff is a true hero of mine and I regret never training with him before moving the Australia.

Dead or Alive is a must read for anybody who has the common sense to survive the streets.

I was armed Forces for 8 years, a Doorman during a few years of that and done competitive martial arts for over 10 years and let me tell you, Geoff is the best!

  • read his boook Dead or Alive: The choice is yours, the definitive self protection handbok"

  • Reading articles by Geoff has really helped me in real life situations that I never expected to come accross when I was reading his articles.

The fence is simple yet excellent I now see why Geoff says its so important.

Probably saved my life once and definitly saved me from getting a very very seriously beating.

I thank God for people like Geoff Thompson

  • its good to see a bit of reality. most of these karate and kung fu fighters have never actually been in a fight.

Geoff is definatley one of the best instructors ever.

  • very interesting :)

  • The Master.

  • Is that a giant water punching bag in the background?!

  • great vid tobbe, i got linked here from a tai chi vid where you were bashing chi, im totally interested in rbsd, but chi is also something important imo man, i recommend you take another look, i mean, you can still hurt someone with relevance techniques (weak points, joint destruction, weapons etc), its just another level is all

  • biomechanics and strategy, you can think of chi as another aspect of biomechanics, whereas this stuff, blind spot techniques etc would be strategy, both supplement eachother though

  • Great video , and at no point did I think ,yeah , but...

    This is good stuff

  • Geoff Thompson is an insperation!!!

  • I also read 'Watch my back' when it first came out around '92 I think, and was hugely inspired by it. I trained 6 months solid after reading Geoffs book and learned to face my demons thanks to him. Geoffs the real deal, not the archetypal swaggering gum chewing wannabe.

    Respect. A great guy.

  • Read his book on holiday last week, just couldnt put the book down while on Alcudia beach in Mallorca

Fantastic book and the movie Clubbed is brilliant

  • it was through geoffs writings that I started to grapple back in 93.A real groundbreaking instructor in those days, some martial artists still dont get it..I actually thought watch my back was terrible though, sorry geoff.

  • imho good read.

Still he is a fighter not writer.

  • hes a writer now exclusively, over 30 books .He has completely moved away from fighting.I just thought that book was very poor, one worn out joke to the next with what seemed like boasting about how violent he was in between.I am a big fan of his current attitude I must say.

  • Yeah Geoff is one of the original and in my opinion one of the best in reality based self defense. He's no-nonsense and doesn't advocate false bravado and ego. He also advocates hard work

"If you only train recreationally you'll only get recreational results" Quote from Geoff Thompson.

  • Geoff Thompson is amazing.

  • first read geoffs books 10 years ago used to think i was a coward for feeling my bottle go in a violent encounter now i realise its a strenth i luv geoff

  • Bravo! I totaly agree with Mr. Thompson! I have never heard about him until today. Having bounced in bars and studying martial arts as well as being in and observing street fights. These tips are on the money in fact I have been saying the same things for years. Nice to know other well educated fighters agree with the same tips! Many thanks for posting this.

  • A film is finally being made about Geoff. His advice has helped me a couple of times. Top bloke.

  • this guy is a born instructor. i've unknowingly used this technique for years and never knew it. he explains it perfectly.

  • awesome man, would be great to meet him one day :)

  • i red watch my back and he is a man that earns alll respest that i have.He looks just like a normal citizen but he's the guy you should be afraid of in a dark alley

  • agree very much, som of the best I've trained with also don't look like they can fight sleep, but are monsters in the arena and in sparring

  • This is so good. Learned a lot from both videos.

  • because the eyes are a small target and under the adrenaline of a real fight they would ben hard to hit,you want a finisher.

  • why wudnt u wanna hit in the eyes i thught that was one of the best targets?

  • It always fascinates me how the most dangerous people always look pretty harmless next to any other guy. Same with both of my trainers, and some of the better people who train there.

  • Good point. In my experience, even if the guys look tough, they very very rarely talk about fighting. They know it and most other people know it, so they don't have to say it.

  • Brilliant stuff!!!

  • ive read loads of his book the man is awesome.wish to meet this guy

  • I have many of the throwing and wrestling vids, but nobody to train with. My brother thinks punching will solve every problem.

  • He is a Legend in every respect

i highley recomend his book Watch My Back

  • excellent, i used to train with one of his admired student/colleague glenn smith. Geoff is a legend from coventry

  • he is such a legend

  • G. Thompson is still the man!

  • Awesome Tobbe!!!

  • this guy has changed the way i think about things, the bit where he say's about your ego stopping you escaping, and draging you back in to a situation, hit me quite hard, i have confused that with thinking i am doing the right thing, the brave thing!! i wish i had heard of this Gent before thanks for posting, i will look out for his books.

  • i used to read all his columns in combat magazine for years. He is a gentleman and a legend!

  • Whatever you study (KM, MMA, CKM, etc). Geoff Thompson is the real deal. A true legend!!! Thanks you so much!

  • This is gospel.

  • In the mid 90's Mr Thompson changed EVERYTHING for me! Met him many times and learned a wealth of information from his books and dvd's. For me The fence and 3 second fighter Where a revolution. A true gent and a man far ahead of his time, great post, weldone!

  • That's great to hear. I tried to create some clips from my version of the 3 second fighter video but the sound didnt sync, I should try to solve that.

  • I'd read about Geoff Thompson in an issue of Taekwondo Times some years back...He's been through a lot and yet continues to astound me with his humility and modesty and yet having tremendous strength of character. Thank you for putting this up. You may not realize who's life you may have saved just by posting this vid..
