@StSimonMartyr Part of the myth has always been the misconception that they "hunt" lions by killing them. No dog can stand up to a lion in a fight. All they ever did was hold the lion in one place through harassment until the human with a rifle appeared, much like American Walker Hounds treeing a cougar. It's true that RRs haven't been seriously used as hunters for a long time but I'm thinking they've still got some hunting chops if given the chance to prove what they can do.
@JackKangaroo1 Many many Ridgebacks have been killed by Lions when they get to close. I hate hunting ok but there is one diary report that a guys rifle failed to shoot when it got jammed and one pride of lions killed 7 ridgebacks, when one got caught all the other dogs went in to rescue the other one then the whole pride joined in, the hunter could do nothing. After he lost his dogs the trauma got to him and he never hunted again lol . No dog on planet could kill a lion or tiger one on one
@MrNativeDancer Agreed, no dog can kill a lion or a tiger. I'd go one step further and assert that no dog alive could kill a 100 lb leopard in a one-on-one confrontation.
I have 2, ages 9 and 12. Not immune to insect bites, however. Hound dog smelling, but I love that smell anyway. I love the breed but they are not for everyone. They are not labs. You have to socialize them with dogs and people, especially during their first year. They are athletic and fairly hardy. They are easy to train but need a soft, firm hand. They need a lot of attention. You cannot park them in your backyard for hours on end and ignore them.
OMG, we have a 7 week old RR (who is still at the breeders - we won't get her until the beginning of December), and we named her Nala too! We are amazing!
We have a boy RR and want to get a girl next. You have inspired me to name her Nala! (Our boy is named Leonidas)

RRs havent hunted anything in 50+ years.
Sorry but all of them lack sharpness and hardness in comparison to other serious hunting breeds like Jagds, Drahthaars, Curs and even some hounds.
Lived off myth a long time.
