Well having translated most of the bible, I can say that the core of the message never changed. It is pure ignorrance to assume that you can translated word for word. This is in part to the differences of some words in the orginal language that don't translate well into the modern tongue. The other has to do with the word order, that nedds to be changed with the use and expression of the current tongue spoken. It is still the word of God, provided the proper respect to the word of God
You better be sure about that, you have a lot to lose if your wrong. Knowledge is a blessing but can cause us to put ourselves above God, thinking we know more than we really do.
What is truth? When Ponchus Pilot asks Jesus for the truth, he never told him. The only thing for sure TRUTH in the end is what ever is is. If God exists, his existence with us is only temporary because we are all terminal. :-)
Here's an interesting one relating to the origin of women: The Hebrew word that was translated into "rib" in the book of Genesis actually meant "curved surface." Eve was NOT created from the rib of Adam! Rather, this was symbolically speaking of the innate beauty in humanity, the flowing feminine principle.
The whole thing is a bunch of stories and myths anyway, with no literal or historic accuracy in my humble opinion. Had the Bible crammed down my throat for years as a kid; it's nonsense.
In the Hebrew version the word translated as rib is "tsela", alternately translated as arc when the same word "tsela" as in in the arc of the covenant.
My grandmothers were your grandmothers--lovely women, widowed mothers with young children who struggled to make ends meet and tithed even though they were as poor as those they supported. At 12 I was tricked in an emotional moment into declaring my intent to become a missionary--an idea I had never before entertained. Thus started my disenchantment with religion. I spent a number of years flicking John Calvin off my shoulder. I succeeded. You and I remain spiritual, but religious, NO!
Yes, and isn't that "I'm not so sure about that" moment a freeing one! Now that I've worked in a synagogue singing for a few years, my whole take on everything religious has changed. I'm so happy to have had that awakening as well. Hugs to you dear lady.
This video is one of many reasons why I consider you one of the brightest, sharpest minds on Youtube.
It also brings to mind the failure of education today in that, not only are you an artist and musician, but you are multi-lingual, capable of more than the mere rote repetition of another language.
isn't that funny... i bet the opposite is true of ancient philosophers. if we were to reread them in original there would be more, rather than less - like in the case of bible - to them. for example i've just learned couple of days ago that they found unique copy of archimedes' work overwritten by some middle age hymns... :-( talk about feckupd priorities...
Great video. I would suggest everyone look into your local synagogues and see if they offer introduction to Hebrew classes, and Biblical Hebrew Classes. Gives you the platform to translate the old testament yourself without mans spin on it. I am sick today, so I would give a better comment but im about to pass out :(

I myself have often wondered how much is missing in translations.

We never eat cookies , cause they're made with yeast.
And one little bite turns a man to a beast.
I think your grandmothers are to commended for the way you turned out.

Love the way you are slowly revealed as the photo of your grandmothers moves aside.
