  • Wish Match Of The Day was presented like this.

  • nice

  • Yay for Uncle Phil ... Phil Taylor - My Nans brother - my claim to fame :) so proud

  • @NattyPatty13 Nice one.....btw, did your Uncle Phil go on to manage Liverpool, just prior to Bill Shankley?

  • @converse91970 Yes he did :) after Don Welsh... xx

  • @NattyPatty13 Nice one NattyPatty, thanks for the reply. Best of luck from an Arsenal fan! x

  • Joe Mercer what a gentleman at the end!!!

  • "Cox working like a Trojan"... heh

  • This was Denis Compton's last game for Arsenal, and he famously required a half-time whisky to keep him going for the 90 minutes!

  • @simonvaddan Dennis Comptons last game for Arsenal was on 2nd May 1950 against Portsmouth at Highbury, Arsenal won 2-0.I remember being there.

  • I defer to you 39sharman. I've just checked my Arsenal history and it says the Cup Final was on 29 April, and Arsenal played two more League games - 5-2 at Stoke on 6 May and 2-0 home to Portsmouth, listed as being on 3 May. You say 2 May. Maybe the book's wrong.

Anyway, if I'd checked the history before posting, I'd have read in the text that Compton played - and brilliantly - against Portsmouth - the champions-to-be - though it was Peter Goring who got the goals.

    Thanks for the correction..

  • @simonvaddan . 3rd May is correct, my typo error sorry.

  • @simonvaddan Just as a matter of historical interest, Arsenal wore their old-gold cupfinal shirts for the game against Pompey on 3rd May 1950.Prior to kick off, Arsenal had their official team photo taken with the cup in front of them.God, where have the last 60 years gone?

  • Arsenal played in Gold Jerseys for this match.

  • Sweet football from the gunners at 2.07 - 2.25

  • @boosra Yes, you are right! Wenger football before Wenger......nothing boring about it at all!

  • "It takes a copper to keep calm" lol
