  • I'm looking in to this. I don't care about smart phones and apps. Computers and laptops are everywhere these days.

  • Ummm... the guy in the first part of the video makes me uneasy for some reason.

  • I used to have a contract plan until last april when it expired and switched to a tracfone samsung T105 for $9.88 and bought a 60 minutes card and it doubled it. And to tell you, i should have done this before. I would save $75 a month and i don't even use my cell that much and i don't text, only for emergencies and when i'm on vacation. Whoever came up with this concept is a genius.

  • Personally I use Straight Talk, paying $45/mo for unlimited talk/text/web and I use a Nokia E71 which is a bona fide smartphone. It works great for me, everywhere my verizon friends have service and that includes down in the subway stations here in DC

  • This video is so true, now prepaids are the way to go, especially if you use your cellphone A LOT! I see they show Straigtht Talk in this video, and it's so true! with only $45 a month I get unlimited service, and not only that, I have a great phone and the coverage and voice quality are amazing.

  • Straight Talk now have a whole lot more than 3 phones on offer. I have a Nokia E71 from them, which is a genuine smartphone for only $45 a month. This is cheaper than any other smatphone on the market. The service and coverage are great, so why should I pay more and sign a contract for 2 years.

  • I think that prepaid is a great option if you need to save some money, even if you want a smart phone and can't afford an iphone, I mean the monthly bill for one of those goes over 100 a month. Some prepaid services, like Straight Talk for example, have smart phones and the good news is that Straight talk has a $45 a month unlimited plan that includes unlimited data. cool, right?

  • Prepaid is the only way to go. I would think that as people's contracts expire this year they will be switching to prepaid en masse. The quality of phones and service with Net10 is excellent and they really are much cheaper than a contract. You also have the flexability to change plans from month to month. I bought the unlimited plan for $50 in December when I was phoning a lot, but I have only spent $20 in January. No other operator gives you this flexability.

  • Page Plus Cellular is the best prepaid cell phone company. They operate on Verizon's network, so they have the best nationwide coverage. Their plans are awesome. If you just need voice minutes it's as low as 4 cents a minute. $80 lasts a whole year. They also have 2 great monthly plans of voice/text/data for $29.95 and $44.95.

  • I switched from a contract plan to a Net10 prepaid phone because I was sick of the high charges on contract. With Net 10 I only pay for what I use and if I am going to use the phone a lot in a month I can go to unlimited for $50 for that month, and then switch to a lower cost the next month. This flexability is what I want from a cell phone company.

  • I find it very odd that so many people still have cellphone contracts when the costs are horrendous and the reception and coverage the same as Tracfone or even worse! Maybe some people don't have to worry about money but the average American does as the recession showed us. Contracts are a huge waste of money!

  • . I am 100% happy with TracFone. . This has been the easiest, user-friendliest phone service I've ever had. I’ve got the Motorola W260Gand I think the design and ability to have a cool phone is something reallyimportant in looking at a prepaid cell phone.

  • I think my favorite part about tracfone is the ease in which to sign up, add more minutes, and deactivate if ever needed. I honestly hate the long phone calls and cancellation processes I needed to make with my previous carrier. My parents who usually have a larger learning curve with technology found the service extremely easy and user friendly, plus they dont complain about charges or large bills because quite simply, there aren't any.

  • am also very happy with my new tracfone prepaid plan, it's double minutes for life, great nationwide cover and my new t301 from samsung. i am not a heavy, but a frequent user and get by with spending $29.99 a month on my tracfone individual prepaid plan.no long term commitments, no extra charges for long distance or any overage or hidden fees.i have a nice phone with camera which only cost me $49.99 and am very happy with it. no more considering, it is done, and i don't think i will ever go back

  • i find it really interesting that there has been a huge move to prepaid. i recently switched to Net 10 and their $50/month unlimited plan and i am happy so far. I am just waiting for the day that cell carriers drop those ridiculous termination fees. I had to pay almost $300 to get out of my plan...ughhh

  • @TheRicky019 i wouldnt had paid them shit! fuck those corporate bastards

  • I used to be with at&t and I was paying what I thought was a reasonable price. I got tired of my son begging me for a cell phone and decided that if I was going to start paying for a phone for him, I was going to have to do some research. Verizon's Straight Talk plan was the most obvious choice as it beat all the other plans by a landslide. I got the $45 dollar plan for myself and the $30 plan for my son and it still comes out to LESS than I used to pay for just me!

  • Listen up people! This is the last time I'm gonna say this! $45 dollars will get you unlimited calls, texting, and data if you just go to Walmart and sign up for Straight Talk. No crazy add-ons or surprise charges and no contract. $45 a month is a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

  • If you use my kickback code when activating your Virgin Mobile phone, you'll get 60 free bonus minutes. JJPwYI4V is the code. There is a spot for it on the official website.

  • I got my kids Tracfones with the double minutes for life plan which gives them double the minutes they paid for and free incoming texts and that helps them a lot with stretching their allowances! They have qwerty slider phones from Tracone and they say they are a dream to text on!

  • Prepaid phones gaining popularity

Service giant Sprint has seen 60 percent of its new customers this year choose a no-contract option, such as Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile -- both of which it sells.

Boost Mobile just launched its first touch-screen smart phone and first Android smart phone on Nextel's iDEN network.

The Blackberry runs on Sprint's CDMA network & has 3G web & plays youtube

Boost offers iDEN network phones with Nextel's walkie talkie and CDMA phones that run on Sprint's CDMA network & have 3G web.

  • Prepaid phones gaining popularity

MIAMI -- Sales have never been better for MetroPCS. The prepaid cell phone retailer broke records in the first and second quarter of 2010 with new subscribers to its no-contract, monthly flat-rate mobile service.

Prepaid subscribers made up 20.3 percent of the industry in December 2009, up from 17.8 percent at the end of 2008, according to CTIA.
