If you look at seconds 0:48, you can tell that this person does not have text book form. His body is all out of balance, his stance is too wide and as someone said previously, his toes arent pointing in the direction that he is shooting. Im 5'8 and i can dunk. Its about vertical, note race or height. As intelligent as you sound, and as likely as you are to take actual information and use it, do calf raises and you can increase your vertical by at least 5 or 6 inches over time. Possibly more.

A calf raise is pretty much lifting your body weight with your calves only. Its cool cause its something you can do anytime, anywhere. basically just find a step, or anything that has one plane higher than another, and let your heels hang off the end while the balls of your feet and toes stay ON the 'step', then you just stand on your toes; hold it for say 30 seconds, lower, repeat. Do about 4 sets of 30 repetitions a day and youll be set.

No problem. The most important thing to seeing and feeling progress is to make sure you're working the muscle. Have as much of your heel/foot hanging off the step as you can so the weight is really being lifted when you try to push your toes to elevate. Hold it as l long as you can or give yourself a time, and then let down..but as soon as your heels come back down go RIGHT back up. It's muscle confusion because it doesn't let your calves get use to the workout.

Actually, doing squats, working out your lower back and hamstrings increases your vertical even more. Calves only contribute around 10-15% whereas squats is somewhere in the neighorhood of 50%. When you jump, your main load is on your quads, not on your calves. I'm not saying that you shouldnt work out your calves, you should because it helps with quickness, but that shouldnt be your main focus. Also supplement with plyometrics.
