Hey, I am looking to move to Missoula in the next few years. Do any of you guys know if these rivers turn up results hen fishing without a fly pole? I'm used to using a spinning reel/pole and was wondering if these fish bite bait, lures or spinners.
Check out some of the fish found up in Fernie BC Canada, on the Elk River.
In the youtube search bar type in "jacksonhobbs1" and you will see my Youtube Channel, and my cabin for sale. It has some amazing photos with big Trout from the Elk River in BC Canada. I'm sure you will like the videos!
Absolutely!!! The Missouri is a world class fly fishing river. I've been guiding on it for the past 3 years and have yet to find a better place to fish. There are roughly 4,000 trout per river mile and the average fish is in the 17 to 18 inch range.
Cool. I just heard that Montana was super crowded because of it's fly-fishing sub-culture... I would like to try somewhere out west this year for a change; such as Alberta, Montana, Wyoming or Colorado.
Just a word since I see some "outfitters" posting below. Great Falls native here. Some outfitters proposed to shut down the dearborn section of the missouri for outfitters only. Rest assured if that ever happens you and your boat will have m-80's and gunfire going its way,...not to hurt but 2 sink. Damn tree huggers need to go to the other side of the pass and stay in missoula/kalispell. Great video though it reminds me what a blessing we have by having this in our backyard.
I work with many of the outfitters in the area and rest assured, non of the ones I know are trying to shut down the Dearborn. However, there has been speculation that FWP may start issuing permits much like the Smith...all speculation. BTW, I'm a hunter and spend a lot of time on the river; I've also hugged a few trees. There's nothing wrong with being a stewart and try to responsibly save what we have. Take care.
We don't allow Red Skins fans out here...lol. Thanks for watching and commenting. I guide a lot on the Missouri and although I love the small stuff, there's nothing like the Mo for the numbers and the size. Come on out but remember, the Mo is tough so make the best of your time and hire a guide.
Fantastic video. A trout fishing trip to Montana is on my bucket list for sure. I trout fish the streams of SW Virginia and NE Tennessee which is a paradise in its own right. I fished for cut throats when I was stationed in Tacoma Wa in the 80's. What fighters.
Hey, thanks for watching and for commenting. As much as I would love to share what stream this is, I get paid to bring people to these places. You can contact Headhunters in Craig, MT if you or your father want to take a trip. Request me, Russ, as a guide and I will take you there or take you out on the MO for the big boys. Take care and keep 'em where they live, in the water not the trees.
That's a beautiful stream, my brother. Where in Montana is that? Care to share the name of the stream? My father just moved to Polson in November 2008 and I am VERY excited to get up there summer of 09 for some serious fly fishing.
REminds me of the Galitin River...absolutely Gorgeous....can just TASTE those trout and smell the clean mountain air...:-)
