  • "Perhaps we had changed the climate."

    D'oh.

  • 37:13 - 41:32 This brought tears to my eyes the first time I watched it.

  • omg, Carl gets so sad!! Noooooo :-( Stupid nukes

  • Aye

  • I nominate Carl Sagan as the spokesman for interplanetary contact, and leader of the world, All in favor say I

  • Thank You for this video. I first watched this around 10 years old and I've only just realised, while re-visiting this, how much of an effect Carl Sagan has had on my whole character and world view, at a very fundamental level! Although my career path has been very different to science - I'm a chef - it has always been an interest. My son however has become a scientist, and I couldn't be prouder! You should hear some of the geeky father/son conversations we have, haha! Thank You Carl Sagan

  • @atomixfang I agree with that.

  • Every religious idiot in the USA and the middle east should be forced to watch the entire Cosmos series. Maybe, just maybe, a few of them would learn something, and cease their pointless hatred and violence.

  • @ReligiousZombie I agree North Korea, USA, China and Iran should watch Cosmos. Look at us 15 years later after Carl Sagans all 4 countries mentioned here are threatening to do Cold War 2. and we are letting Defense contractors or arms dealers make money off of nuclear weapons.

  • Totally random but everytime Carl says "human" it makes me think of Seinfeld..

  • Every human Being should watch all the episodes of cosmos

  • Carl would of made a hell of a President.

  • The real issue going back through previous problems of human progress to this day are: greed, bigotry and ignorance. Only if those can be conquered will our species be in a position to make the right decisions. We need radical changes in political and economic structures and work towards a meritocracy. Religion needs to go because that alone is a major source of conflict and suffering. Its asking a lot and we are really not on course. We need leaders who are more like Sagan and less like Bush

  • Who speaks for Earth? Carl Sagan.

  • carl preachin' the gospel!!!!

  • what's the song that plays when he talks about his dream?

  • @kenijaru

    Beethoven's 7th, 2nd movement

  • I hope ,Carl, that you are our ambassador, travelling in the outer spaces.optimism, informated intuition and open-mindness towards everything we may encounter.it's a tall order, but nonetheless, you're up to it.travel in peace...

  • Does anyone know what that music is when he starts talking about the Aztecs and Spaniards? Something classical?

  • "Whatever is inconsistent with the facts, no matter how fond of it we are, must be discarded or revised." My new favourite quote.

  • My mind cries in tears and want to learn more about life.

  • Sorry to kill the mood here, but....is Sagan wearing floods?

  • Thank you for everything Carl.

  • All you people wanting to talk about religion. What is wrong with you religious types? God bless... Jesus this... religion... religion...

Have you people learned nothing from this series? Religion is the lies, the evil, the darkness that veils the truth and seals our fate. People... PEOPLE! For the sake of our survival, stop the religious bullshit.

  • @kival71

In my opinion, greed is the source of our evil, not religion. If ever in doubt, just follow the money trail

  • Watching this today and thinking of Norway, and of our entire planet. When will we stop destroying one another and realize that our future is together or not at all?

  • God bless Carl Sagan. He's in heaven now, making documentaries for Jesus.

  • If there has ever been a better television series than this, I sure can't think of it. Even though it is obviously dated in its production, its message and ability to inspire wonder and gratitude for the work of others, and our place in the universe, is undiminished. Carl Sagan spent time deciding what information about our civilization should be sent aboard the Voyager spacecraft into the ocean of space. If it were up to me, I would send 'Cosmos'.

  • 22:00 I respect Sagan not exempting scientists from some of the responsibility for the potential of nuclear war.

  • 1:54 FOUR BLACK DRAGONS! BREATHING FIRE!

  • This is amazing, but venus fried because it didn't have an electromagnetic field like earths around it.

  • I hated religion before, I have known of thier book burning, but now, I cannot describe my hatred and contempt. this is episode os also possibly the best in the series as it covers so many things.

  • @LuciferLBelial @LuciferLBelial Why do you hate religion so much now for science's sake? Science and religion are two sides of the same coin, a way to explain the way we came to exist, and continue to grow. Religion has its fanatics, as does science, religion has its liars and greedy people, as does science.

Ever heard of "hate the player, not the game"?

  • @SundaraKapasalathi Religion explains nothing, rather it greatly inhibits finding accurate explanations. Science doesn't try to tell people how they should live their lives. Science discourages lies while religion encourages lies. If not for lying, Christianity would die. Science is mostly amoral while religion is mostly immoral. We'd be much better off without religion but much worse without science. Religion is not a way to explain the way we came to exist, and continue to grow.

  • @Strangerinasland I'm an open-minded Christian who believes in the Big Bang and evolution. Wrap your head around that.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi then why to belive in god or gods if world goes around just fine without them? why do you belive in evil god that belives in blood sacriface? why do you belive in messiah that punnishes people for not being able to belive in the unbelivable? why not to face reality on realitys terms. why not wonder about the world, instead of discribing god behind the curtain? this world is migher then your god. why not to wonder instead of desiding in prior what is couse of all this.

  • @gethsoftware I do wonder about the universe. I believe in a kinder god than the one that the bible poses. The bible was written during extremely turbulent times, which called for a belief in a god that would punish enemies. I'm extremely accepting of other religions, so I find it strange that God would actually want to kill his own children. After all the book of Revelation was written by an uncomfirmed MORTAL man. He could have been making stuff up.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi "He culd have been making stuff up" prisiely. especialy when we know that bible is not orginal. allso you dont wonder. wonder whuld be genuen intrest. instead, you have allready decided that the univerese was made by god. a true wonderer whuld consive the the endless possiblitys, instead of saying "its man behind curtain" when in reality there is no man, and mystery is just mystery. you have taken a step of faith, thus blinding you to alternitives.

  • @gethsoftware Anyone could have made any of that stuff in the bible, but I still agree with Jesus' principles, and I think it's plausible for there to be a God. We have not found God because well, God is supposed to be beyond living human eyes. I am open to the fact that there may be nothing out there, but that's just not what I fundamentally believe. I respect your beliefs, I really, really do. Try and respect mine.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi yes. anyone culd had made the stuff in bible. so, you dont know witch is true and what is not. allso read the bible. majority of the stuff that jesus does, is not good. people have emotinal bias to belive that god is good, and that his proffets are good. but if you have read the damn thing you whuld know that jesus is not moraly sound. unlike god in old testament, jesus belives that he personaly sent you to hell if you dont worship him. that is emotinal manupilation.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi witch one of them? bechose we can agree with manythings. i can agree with mohammed about many things like , not killing female children. but jesus prinsiples are not good. he says stuff like "do as i say, not like i do" and he allso says anti-semitic things. golder rule was not invented by him. and he says many immoral things like that he will punish you for simply not being able to belive. he said, that he will personaly punish you. he is no better man the mohammed.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi no- i do not respect your belives. i respect you. but i dont have to respect your belives. allso, i have no belives about this. only stances. your messiah is not good. your god is not good. and if your gonna say that "all those bad parts are there cos the people where ignorant" no man, both good and the bad parts are there for same reasons if you want the good, you have to take the bad too.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi so what. i allso agree with buddha on manythings. that does not mean i have to belive that he walked on water, and reached nirvana. or that he exited at all. and it does not mean i have to agree with him on everything, and it does not mean that i start to indoctornate people to worship. and with jesus, people prase him without really knowing what kind of asshole he was. same thing with muslims. i see jesus, like i see mohammed. it does not look good.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi of coures you do. but you whuld not if you culd deny it. but denying it whuld be too shamefull. only reason why you belive that earth is round, is bechoes someone standed against the mystics. same in here. only reason why people belive that bloody god, is good god, is bechose no one stands against them. if there where no skeptics, who searched the thruth, you whuld still be burning witches.

  • @SundaraKapasalathi why? bechose it is not a way of knowing things. instead, religion relys on emotional bias, and denial of aterlnetives. i am against anyone who jumps in to conclusions like that. you have not made a case for your self. you are free to belive it. and i defend that right. but i allso call you and idiot bechose that what you are. you have jumped in to conclusion, not only have you closed your own mind, but activly do so to your children. i can dream, but i dont jump to conclusio

  • Vastaa tähän videoon... actualy it is the fault of the game. religion thrives on ignorance, and has allwasy fought against other views. allso, science relys on actual evidence. while religions rely on indoctornation. religion explanes nothing. it only limits our horrisonts.

  • I hated religion before, I have known of thier book burning, but now, I cannot describe my hatred and contempt.

  • 7th simphony, what a combination

  • Thank you for uploading this!

  • The tag of this video post indicates "12". Should it instead be "13"?

  • @couchjordan Yeah sorry I got em backwards when uploading, they were mislabeled from where I got them

  • @TheScienceFoundation cool. great channel. thank you.

  • One of the most inspiring and thought provoking series in cosmic history.
