sh2515, Xen is a professionalgrade hypervisor. It boots as the main "kernel" to the machine, running a patched Linux or *BSD kernel as a module to it. This is your management VM, from which you start other kernels - modified = paravirtualization, unmodified = hardware virtualization - and their respective operating system environments. VMWare is proprietary and runs _inside_ your host operating system, and Virtualbox is just for playing around. Xen turns your computer into a mainframe. :-)
Well, Xen is not comparable to VirtualBox or VMWare. That would be comparing apples with pineapples. All of these are different, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Xen is, however, known to perform best of all these. Plus, it's mostly focused for 'server' and not so much for the desktop user (which includes most of the 'home virtualization; users). So yes, you're wrong.

xen+vnc server = many people can work on the same machine. You need one new-fast machine as a server and you can use old machina as a client.

Is there still a point to having xen these days with VMware and Virtualbox? does xen just replace the kernel on your OS and boots the OS?
