  • Cool effects, but I like Ubuntu with GNOME with NO effects, because I like speed more than effects

  • @photographylover246 It's really not that resource intensive.

  • @zantrua even so, if a window has to like slide into view or anything else that makes things take a little bit longer to get to me then it slows me down a little.

  • Mmmm, not very original fuctions in the os

  • that was implemented in the system more than 4 years ago, back to then it was quite impressive especially for an OS that actually is more for advanced/sysadmin users than for fancy-a-mac-style-interface

  • Can any one HELP me, I have a problem with my ubuntu 9.04, When it boots up the login sound gets stuck in a loop and never stops. Any help? Oh yeah, It works fine on my other computer. My hp laptop has a built in surround sound, Altec Lansing. maybe that has something to do with it...

  • Sure, send me a 50% off coupon and ill only have to pay $1000... which is also the whole price of my HP Dv7-1175nr with blue ray, and navida 9600 2.4 core 2 duo and full 6 gb mem and 500 gb hard drive.

  • is that CQC you're watching?

  • omfg... that is so fucking sexy.. im sooooo downloading linux..

  • How do you make the panel transparent?

  • right click the panel go to properties and under apperance there is a bar that goes from solid on the left to transparent on the right

  • i hate the kde desktop gui.. but any ways nice work.. you must have a powerful graphics card

  • i agree, i don't like kde either, but you don't need a powerful computer to do this. my integrated nvidia 6100 can do this at a higher frame rate. but, i'm currently not using compiz right now and haven't for about 4 months because i'd rather have more performance

  • ya thats true, i just thought that to get the live previews with the cube and stuff its good to have a little kick. kde isnt really used much any more any ways

  • hmm idk about that. more than half of the distros out there are only kde or include kde as well as other desktop environments. in terms of distributions, kde is by far the most popular but in terms of who actually uses it, gnome wins. i really hope gnome 3 has some of the features kde has. i prefer the organization and tools of gnome but the applications and customization of kde. luckily kde apps can be installed on gnome and you can install more features for gnome too

  • nicely put

  • Holy shit... Thats beautiful is this what Im missing out on by not downloading and enabling compiz/compiz -fusion? Does the startup take a performance hit if i do enable it... Im using Ubuntu by the way.

  • no GUI = Graphical User Interface.

  • linux = Developer

    Windows= user

nice distro congratz for your look

  • not really... i use linux but im not a dev...

  • Comment removed

  • Linux is not for everybody, sorry. I tried Ubuntu and is good. But you have to open the comand window to do most of the things. That's not time saving.

  • Command line >>>>>>>>>> GUI

  • It just takes time getting used to it.

Ubuntu is built off a strong core (Glibc). It processes big things faster. You can officially go to Adobe Premiere in 2 seconds while in XP or Vista it will take me around 15 seconds to load it, then another 5 for it to load up the file screen. And i have a 2.5 ghz intel core 2 duo.

  • Yea, its a bit of a learning curve... but once you complete it, it becomes much easier to get by... its prolly best if you have a simple book or somebody to help you get familiar.

  • is there a program for windows that does that cube thing?

  • Why are people arguing about Linux vs Windows on this video, it's fucking retarded. This video was made to demonstrate Beryl on Sabayon Linux, not as a war ground for debates about Linux vs Windows.

  • i woudlnt try this. most things are not compatible.

  • What do you mean? Linux applications are compatible with Linux...

  • never comp linux withe windows linux is far more better

  • i'm just saying when Microsoft has a flaw, it is huge. Complete, unavoidable remote access is a HUGE problem. The biggest problem I think of with linux was the SSL key generation issue, and that was fixed far more promptly than the time between service packs.

Anyways, it's true all OS's have issues, they just seem to be more apparent on windows, not because of the frequency (which is unfair since microsoft has much larger market share) but in severity.

Hopefully Windows 7 will be better.

  • There were two flaws in which a person could gain root in the past year. A priv escalation bug, and a bug in SSH and SSL.

  • But many of the exploits in Windows are quite dangerous. A copy of XP with service pack one is susceptible to being completely overtaken by a hacker using a remote access exploit.

  • So is mmm a copy of Linux from one year ago with no updates. You are a true Lintard. What is your fucking point? You cannot compare an old version of Windows with recent Linux.

Compare Linux to Vista. You will see they are equal in security.

  • but then you can gain root on a mac in 20 min 0.o

  • there are many many stable Linux builds. The reason why most you download are unstable (like ubuntu) is the fact that they are constantly trying to be on the edge of technology, sacrificing stability for new technology.

Once Windows finally decides to break their useless backwards compatibility and get rid of the registry system, I will go back. Windows as an OS isn't terribly insecure, but many of microsoft's applications are not, namely IE, creating a dangerous situation.

  • The reason why there are no viruses attacking OS X/Linux machiens is NOT because "people don't make bother making them because nobody uses macs/linux". It is because they are insanely difficult to make. A virus works by exploiting a weakness in the operating system; linux based systems have very few exploits are are patched on a regular basis. Windows on the has many of these exploits which are usually only properly fixed when service packs come out.

  • OS X is less secure than Windows and Linux so shut-up and get your facts straight.

Linux had several privelages escalation exploits in the last few years alone. You rarely hear of that in Windows land.

  • This looks like hotdog stand theme from windows 3.1. Thank god windows has finally surpassed Linux in stability, beauty, and security.

  • Lol are you on drugs!!!???

  • Why do you think I am on drugs? Fact is Windows is on par in security with Linux. It definitely looks better. The stability is also on par(as far as servers go).

  • you are so wrong... it does not look better. In Windows u still need to use anti-virus... And stability.... try to keep a windows machine running for more than a month and see how it becomes more slow (if not crashes before)... Linux machines u can keep them running for like a year (without turn it off) and behave exactly like when u turned on. So get ur fact right windows fanboy!!! windows only beats linux on gaming and drivers library... and thats not linux fault.

  • Windows clearly looks better; it is fucking consistent to some degree. Windows needs an anti-virus, because it is not an obscure OS like Linux. I mean, to who would the viruses spread? To other Linux users? Ha! Windows has the same security rating as Linux so saying it is less secure it lying. Windows is stable and has been since Windows 2000. I have seen Windows 2000 run for a year, and it doesnt slow down.

And calling me a fanboy makes you look like a fool.

  • u right u are not a fanboy... u are just a retard who does not have the idea of what hes talking about...

  • Maybe if you go read some actual literature and statistics without bias. I am saying not listen to what Linux news sites say and other YouTubers say.

Windows and Linux have the same security rating. Windows has very similar uptimes to Linux. Go check netcraft, org

Oh yeah stop spreading lies and shit. I have been using Linux for a long long time and I am not a fanboy of anything.

  • jajajaja you are telling me to read??? lol

im a computer engineer!!! 17 year old kid!!!

i have read and work and code a lot with both OS!!!

and i dont read linux sites or anything else... i read books u idiot!!!

    bitch ass motherfucker!!!

  • Oh no, you are one year older than me. You must be right. Look at netcraft; they will tell you that Windows 2007 is stable. And who cares, you are a computer engineer in Venezuela. You just graduated, and you can piss off. You were obviously a terrible student as you do not cite any sources for your claims.

If you knew how to read, you would learn that Windows 2007 has a higher security ranking than OS X, and is on par or better than with most distributions.

  • 23-17 = 1 you are on drugs....

BTW the first article in your web site is

    best hosting providers...

    of 41

    20 use linux

16 unknown of solaris or FreeBSD (last 2 are UNIX based OS just like linux)

    ONLY 5 use windows...

so SHUT THE FUCK UP RETARD!!!!

  • A) I am 22; I just put 17 to save embarrassing YouTube situations around my very conservative parents. You see things are different in asia.

    B) The point is Windows is very comparable to Linux in uptime. The average uptime is less but this is likely because of administrator decisions rather than the OS.

    C) Linux is not UNIX, and just because it is UNIX does not mean it is more secure as Windows Server 2007 is more secure than OS X.

    D) Linux is fucking unstable on the desktop.

  • C) i never say it was... they are UNIX based...

    D) not agreed at all... Linux is super stable... if your application crashes you don't have restart the PC like sometimes (a lot) happens in windows. You just open a terminal kill the process and presto!

    E) probably the best reason that Linux is better the win is the resource administration. Any program that is for Linux and windows!!! the Linux version is always faster! try netbeans or maya.

    F) Linux is Free and almost every application is free!

  • simply..... beautiful....

  • juajua, petinato...

    Lindo escritorio!

  • u mad? lol

  • I think you're actually describing Vista.

Linux has extreme usability and being more efficient, open source, and having a more efficient developer console.

  • obviously you never seen all the hacks, the outsourced programs and the ton of information, they have more tutorials on hacks and outsource programs on youtube than windows and apple users combined... and before you go on your tangent I'm a windows user

  • que buenos efectos(L)

  • Petinato XDD

  • i wish you would tell us how you do that im trying to figure it out.

  • you need to install the compiz pack (you can find it also in the add-remove apps)and then go to system-->preference-->additional desktop effects and add all the effects you want (they are all there the ones seen in this video). ah, of course you need to have ubuntu or kubuntu as your OS (or any other similar supported linux distributions)

  • Roberto Petinato!!!!!!!

  • Sabayon looks pretty cool. Does it come with Gnome? It wouldn't be a deal-breaker, I guess KDE is just as good all things considered, but I would like it if it comes with Gnome.

  • yes, GNOME is a choice when you go to select session type.

  • anybody using linux, please let me know which one your using, and what your computer is. I can never seem to even get any linux program to fully install. even the live ones stop half way through boot up. if I do get it to boot up, nothing works.

  • I would try Ubuntu if you haven't tried that already. It seems to be the most stable one that I've used (not that I've tried them all, of course).

I've had some computers that just wouldn't boot up certain distros (like a friend's computer couldn't boot up Knoppix), and I don't know what causes that, but all I can say is keep trying different distros. If Ubuntu doesn't work, try Fedora. (Also make sure you're not trying to install a 64 bit edition on a 32 bit computer.)

  • Enough with the vista this linux that, vista has its problems as does linux. i use vista x64 as a primary work / games partition And ubuntu 8.04 as a primary every day os. the dule boot install that ubuntu can do inside windows is fantastic, no need to screw around while installing one or the other, great improvement over what could have taken ages. vista boot for games / programs that cant be run on linux..although there are little now that i can think that don't run on linux! go go Ubuntu.

  • sabayon always gave me shit, i don't know why. it would run as its supposed to but run VERY slow, kubuntu has its share of problems, but executes much faster. I'll probably try sabayon if i get a faster comp to make up for its program hog set up, POD was terrible (imo)

  • zzz i have ubuntu 8.04 on my oder PC and.. noah it loocks cool but tha programs.. not very good.. on my gaming PC i have vista 32 bit and it RUULLZ xD

  • Just like an ignorant person to get mad at something they can't understand.

"Me no get it! Me no understand! Me angry! RAHH!!!"

  • The harder right over the easier wrong sounds good to me.

  • i rather be a nerd than an ignorant person trying to be cool on youtube

  • I second that! and 32bit vista?! step into the 64bit generation like we have all been with linux for... how many years, I... I cant remember.

  • yeah I want to be able to just mash down my fingers and make something work without thinking twice about it... wait... I'm thinking of pop jazz guitar playing, nevermind.

  • If Linux was made for idiots only idiots would use it... last time I checked Windows was made for idiots....so what does that make you? Oh and vista has several versions if you didn't know. All of them are bad.

  • @BrokenHorn90 its like tarzan trying to open a door

  • lol okay then stick with crappy windows vista instead of wasting our time with your ignorant comments.

  • put sabayon linux in google

  • where can i download this

  • windows xp was pretty new and it was its best version

  • very good i think install on my computer...

  • Has anyone got it to work on XPS M1530, vista and XPS components working properly?

  • go get a mac! linux is and will always be for the true man!!!

  • jaja mirando CQC jaja muy bueno

  • Si Si CQC con Petinatto un idolo !!

  • yeah know i got all of these systems on one labtop im so sick with it

  • ...

  • ...

  • when do i get to see something like this on my windows xp? xD

  • never.

  • Fucking never, ever, ever, ever.

  • personaly i like Sabayon better then ubuntu

  • Use it when you don't need performance, when using the internet, writing in OpenOffice and such, it's awesome and the cube is perfect when having many applications at the same time. When you need performance, just use X as normal, it's easy to switch with just a click. Playing games with beryl/compiz turned on is not such a great idea, but as i said, turning it off is as easy as turning it on.

  • dis conversation confuses me and i dont know got found dis so il just nod and agree

  • i tried to find a how-to-install sabayon on their site but it doesnt make it too easy.. course im a linux noob and i havent put this on a cd to install on my new computer (as i dont have it yet) is it just self explanatory install? help?

  • Sabayon Detects automagically you video card and question about enable the 3D acceleration and Beryl. And it's not neccesary install SL in your Hard drive for give a try, it can boot in LiveCD mode and you can try all this stuff without touch anything in your hard disk

  • so i can worry free put it on cd and boot off it and my comp wont be messed with?

  • Yes! It will not write anything on your Harddisc. If something goes wrong or you dont like it just take the CD out and your Windows is back

  • sweet deal i tried it earlier and its pretty neat, but it isnt quite as interesting as the desktop acceleration thing doesnt work in emulation, some things (i.e. games) dont work or are slow as hell and you cant use alt tab to spin the cube cause that brings it out of the VMplayer. but its good for showing off all the goodies included and that plus the youtube demos is good for convincing people to use it.

  • why do people love this crap...why dont you put zebra jumping around the screen..

  • Thanks for sharing that with us! Have a nice life!

  • well you must admit..it would be more fun. You could feed her, take a walk...

  • Why do you comment on this crap? You don't you got have life!

  • So you agree that this is crap?

Im unix/linux sys admin. and I think its totally unnecessary for system since it does nothing but spending too much hardware resources. You can use regular X with the same efficiency...in fact much greater efficiency.

  • No, I don't agree that this is crap.

  • It doesn't use that many hardware resources. If you used it you would know that! I use this on my desk top. I don't really care if you don't want to use this on a linux based NETWORK. It's not for that!

  • I don't agree it's crap. I think it's pretty and useful. I'm not using a linux server and I like my computer to look nice. It barely touches my system resources. So why do you care?

  • I'm a Linux sysadmin too, one can also say that you don't need X, it's using unnecessary hardware resources, you have command-line and ncurses for that.

Eye-candy is cool for a desktop, hence Apple's success.

  • Yes thats right! Use CLI! :)

All you need OS for is to run programs. Spending too much hardware resources on such a necessary stuff is a pure waste. But hey, its only my personal opinion. People just love fancy crap.

Look at the iPhone...its sucks...you can find 10x better phones on the market.

  • not enough programs are 64 bit supported...

  • but the list increases day to day :) and under linus you can do chroot to run 32 bits applications under a 64 bits distro.

  • its ok buddy, im not to bad with the english, but i love el castellano. gracias por la informacion!

  • The best operative system ever! u should try it, i bet u wont regret that, runs sweet, the installation process is a headace though :S

  • ¡Excelente sistema operativo!

  • I am a newbie at linux... Can I use all software on linux, that i usually use on windows ? or there are incompatibilties ? i thinking about Adobe soft and Macromedia essentially... cause apple sux too damn expensive and does not worth it at all...

  • usually not. the software vendors sometimes have Linux products besides the windows ones, but you should check it before the switch. also there are usually open source alternatives for windows software. also there are emulators such as Wine which can run dos/windows programs, but they don't work for all programs and if they do, sometimes not to all extent.

  • WOW!

  • Buena captura.

  • Gracias !!!

  • what soft do you use for screen cast? Istanbul? xvidcap..?

  • xvidcap

  • WAY cooler than aero. hah, more proof that M$ is ripping off other ideas.

  • Yep, microsoft can even get the eye candy thing right! I bet we can see a microserf ripoff of beryl in the next version of windows....in 5 years! And it'll look like os x leopard as well!

  • its so sad that microshit is still working on server 2003

  • How do you get the gaps in between the windows and the backgrounds behind the cube?

  • I Don`t remember well there's a lot of options but try some from the configuration. It's funny discover youself what is each thing in Beryl :)

  • amigos como consigo este sistema operativo

  • Remeber this is an "old" version in few days the 0.2.0 is comming !!!

  • beest :)
