  • i had a 7" model by puma years ago and pawned it when i was hard up for cash...boy i regret that

  • have you got a bear grylls ultimate knife if you do could you make a video on it.

  • hey about how much per week do you spend on ammo

  • love your vids sir, keep em comin!

  • to get leading, repeatedly press 4 lol

  • how bout a boxcutter? cheap and effective with replacable blades

  • @MACEX1000, It would probably work, if "cheap" is more important than owning a classy piece of artwork. :-)

  • @hickok45 true its a very nice looking blade

  • Hickock45, I bougt my Puma Hunters Friend in 1970, that's the 5" version, at the JC Penny's in Winona Minnesota for $18.00. After taxes this was just about half a weeks pay at my 95 cent an hour job. I still have it today but the blade is pitted as I stored it in the leather sheath when I was in the Navy from 71 to 75. I joined when I was 17. Great videos you make.

  • THat is one sharp knife!!!

  • Made In germany, you know the Germans always make good stuff. And the whole video inwas wondering if you were going to show slow motion footage of you cutting the cloth. So when you did I burst out laughing haha.

  • i have a puma white hunter beautiful knife

  • Is your name 45 because of the caliber or were you born in 1945?

  • @mayson12451245 -Check out his FAQ video playlist.

His name is after Wild Bill Hickok and his favorite round is the .45 caliber.

  • Great knives the Puma hunters pal, i have one which has been handed down to me and i use it to skin a break down goat carcases without any issues.

  • Do you watch FPS Russia? :P

  • @Pizzitch -Not sure if you're being cute, but he actually did a video with FPS Russia.

  • god damnit hickok45 everytime i watch one of your vids i want to just go out and buy whatever u r using lol

  • my first hunting knife i got when i was about 10 was a puma and have been using them ever since. there great

  • No he doesn't hunt...

  • hey hickock i was wondering if you hunt and if so what

  • that was a good cut at the end lol

  • Just curious Hikok... What did/do you do for an occupation?

  • @DolphinProductions1 He's a teacher.

  • @DolphinProductions1 , I could tell you, but then I'd have to . . . . well, you know the story. :-)

  • if u do dry ball, how in the hell do u get it out?

  • @slappidabass you throw the musket away and get a new one. lol, just kidding. you work some powder in through the nipple, then just fire it

  • The final scene gave me a laugh. Tell John I totally get his humor.

  • @theKGB65, Yeah, I'll have to watch him; next thing I know he'll be giving you a slow mo look at some of my worst misses!

  • Wow, Mr Hickok wearing a Springfield hat....I dont know what to say...my hero has gone from the dark side to the sketchy side, lol....reminds me of someone wearing a Yankees hat around here in Boston territory...at least have a g27 laying on the table so we know you havent been captured by zombies and brainwashed...Tomorrow I expect to see flying monkeys and maybe even the end of the world as we know it!

    Great video as always!

  • LOL the slow mo at the end was Epic!

  • 4 dislikes??? Really? One, how could you possibly take a disliking to this, and Two, Hickok45 makes phenomenal videos that are packed with information and history. Period.

  • well the range officer said a dry patch can start the range on fire. mythbusters did the myth about plugging the end of a barrel, they couldnt get it to explode even when the welded the end closed.

  • @lingenfeltervee May be, but that doesn't explain the bulged and blown-up barrels I've seen hanging in gun shops. Apparently, it was not a myth for some. :-) The patch issue could be real; I've seen lots of smoldering patches after firing a few rounds. Fortunately, they usually don't go that far - usually just 10 - 25 yards downrange.

  • @hickok45 Blown breaches are due most often to either freak failure of the steel [due to repeated overloading or age] or forgetful loading in which the firer has double loaded the gun. There were also instances of Civil War weapons being discovered with several balls rammed down the breach. This could have been due to panic in the field following a misfire, or a booby-trapped weapon! One of the best ways to deal with an enemy arms cache is to 'fix' the barrels! Very gratifying:)

  • @lingenfeltervee im not sure i would take everything they do on that show as 100% trouth. as with all TV like that its all about rateings.. and if u could get it ot light it verry well could pipe bomb, and i know with smokless powder it will blow up..

  • I noticed there was no powder so I started talking to the screen saying "Hey there's no powder!"

  • Well done, John. That Slowmotion at the end of the video made me laugh :D

  • What insects are making those noises out there in TN? Cicadas?

  • How does it become a pipe bomb if the ball isn't against the powder? It seems like the ball would just come out without being accelerated down the barrel.

  • @linkdead14, Not really. It's the same reason a shotgun barrel will often blow up if there's mud stuck in the end of the barrel, or whatever.

  • @hickok45 - I'd like to know the physics behind that if your familure. Is it the hot air expanding between the poweder and ball that creates the problem?

  • Was kinda waiting for a boom at the end of the video with the pal sheath knife cut patch and nice old blackpowder rifle

  • Nice patch cut slow mo ....lol

  • hey hickock. knives are sharp. be careful.

  • Exciting slow motion replay FTW!

  • LOL!! slow motion patch cutting.

  • Hickok, you've probably been asked a hundred times but what type of ear plugs is it that you always have on?

  • @jkpz28, Yep, I finally did an FAQ video on my ear protection awhile back.

  • I guess the bores on these rifles never really get too dirty since your essentially running a patch down it with every round! ;-)

  • @CTKTMRIDER, They still get pretty dirty after several shots. In fact, they can get so dirty that it's difficult to load.

  • You were taught right! That's exactly how I use a patch knife. Been doing it the same way since the 1970's. BTW that's a nice little knife - lots of character.

  • I have a Puma hunter that is handy. I have no experience with muzzle loaders so I was paying close attention to the art of doing this type of operation.

  • Great knife, I've had mine since 69 or 70 and field dressed several deer and misc. camp tasks with it. Thanks for the reveiw.

  • great knife!

    greetings from Germany!

  • do you have any nice machetes?

  • Are you sponsored by Carhartt?

  • @Fordfanforlife777, I wish.

  • @hickok45 I figured because their shirts make an appearance in almost all your videos.

  • Cool little knife. Looks like it use to have serrations, did you just file them off cuz they are a pain to sharpen?

  • The patch is usually wetted down. At competition you can get in trouble if you use dry patches.

  • @lingenfeltervee, Yeah, I had it soaked with Ballistol.

  • @hickok45 will that have the same non-stick effect you talk about with spraying that on your glock? so stuff sticks less inside cuz after a few rounds my round balls are hard to get in, some of that reason is because i use .495 instead of .490.

  • @hickok45 for a upcoming video you should test your accuracy and try shooting full auto at a mid-range target or something....just an idea!

  • @lingenfeltervee whats wrong with using dry patches? (just curious)

  • haha love the slow mo at the end

  • You didnt shoot the muzzle loader :(

  • @Theoatob ah ha! i just found ur enfield vid. Thankyou!

  • @Theoatob yea, this is an outrage!

  • @Theoatob , I shot it a bunch, but in the other video.

  • haha slow mo knife cutting and thats why i love this channel. The weapons and the sense of humor. Keep up the good work!

  • any links to top quality knife websites ? deliver to UK

  • SLOW MO CUTTING.

  • FIRST NON-FAQ VIDEO W/O SHOOTING!

  • Knife and Tomahawk throwing at a 230yard gong?? :D

  • That slow mo was cool. How do you sharpen that knife, Hickock?

  • i really like the knife videos!

  • Great a s usual

  • damn i waited the whole entire videos for him to shoot the rifle...

  • Another great video. I'm going to have to pick me up one of these Puma knives, it looks like a really nice quality blade.

  • Slow motion knife action!

  • I was born in 1974, doesn't that make you feel old? lol j/k

  • @jamesjr934, Nope, just lucky to be very alive and healthy enough to do all the same stuff I did in 1970, except for playing 20 minutes straight in a college basketball game. I might have a problem with that, unless I could wear a respirator the last three quarters. :-)

  • @hickok45 How awesome is that! I only hope I can say the same in 37 years.

    Best wishes...

  • @jamesjr934 I was born in '91 doesnt that make you feel old? haha

  • We found my dads knife from when he was a kid turns out to be the same knife. We ended up looking on eBay at some other peoples prices and we found one for like 600 i guess it's a nice knife

  • slow mo knife cutting = epic!!

  • Thanks for the info!..I have 2 modern replica patch knives...I never knew what the "patch" meant ...Thanks for clearing this up! ...Time for me to buy a muzzle loader now..

  • XDM hat? Whats up? That deserves a video by itself

  • I really enjoyed this video, if you got more stuff that has a history behind it, then please share it with us.

  • @KapteinFruit, Hey, when you live as long as I have, you can't help but have some historical stuff. :-)

  • Does the patch burn up after it leaves the barrel?

  • Cool knife, nice sheath!

    -ManTis

  • Hello from two gunlovers in Germany, we love your videos stick to it! and make ´em more!

  • made in germany you know the germans make good stuff... i know bad joke

  • @LPXDproductions, Actually, they do.

  • @hickok45 well it depends :) they can do crappy products too

  • @hickok45 the comment i made was a line from a commercial for a product called the shame wow and i know germans make very reliable stuff i have a german fire arm and i drive a german car

  • @LPXDproductions i guess you never had a german car, or german weapon.

  • @trancesendable have you ever heard of the shame wow it is a line from a commercial i'm very fucking aware that germans make very reliable stuff i drive a volkswagon golf GTI and i have a Heckler&Koch USP

  • @LPXDproductions Volkwagon, have become very crappy cars.

  • @LPXDproductions Germans make most of the stainless steel inside of your kitchen.

  • @williepie dude can you not see the replies i made to the 2 other comments it was a JOKE does no one have a fucking sense of humor anymore

  • @LPXDproductions I was just stating an intresting fact.

  • @LPXDproductions Sham wow? LOL

  • lol i loved the slow motion ending!!!!!!!! LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful utility knife. You can see it has been used quite a lot, which just gives it more character.

  • The ending was epic. Awesome knife btw.

  • thanks nice knife so fare 3 "people" dont own or know how to use a knife "keep on trollin"

  • Great vid, as usual.

Loved the "slow motion action shot" at the end.....hilarious.

  • How do you sharpen your knives, great sir?

  • The slow motion made me laugh.

  • HOLY CRAP IS THAT A XDM HAT INSTEAD OF YOUR GLOCK HAT!!!! is someone switching to a new polymer lover?????

  • @Bootstastefunny, No, but Springfield is really good to us - sent some shirts and hats to John and me, as well as to the gunshop in Joelton that helps transfer the T&E guns in for me. That's class. I'm just trying to mix it up a bit.

  • He seemed really nervous and nerdy about this video for some reason.

  • @0O00OO0O00OO0O00OO,

    I think it's your imagination. :-)

  • oh yea slow-mo patch cut

  • How do you get a bullet out of the rifle if you accidentally dry ball it?

  • @PRSpl4yer

watch the springfield muzzle loading vid he go s through it briefly

  • @17hmr243 excellent.. learning something new here, thanks bro.

  • @PRSpl4yer

there's a "cork screw jig" to screw in to ball then pull

but he said he takes nipple off load light load and fires it just enuff to get ball out.

hope thats what u mean :)

  • I have a couple of vintage Puma straight razors. They're the shit. Quality stuff.

  • Loved the slow motion cutting. Made me laugh :-)

  • Hahaha gah I was really hoping for some slow motion sawing action at the end there. Thanks :)

  • Hick hock could you shoot an arrow with your rem 870?

  • Slow-mo Cutting. Almost as good as slow-mo watermellon 'slicing'.

  • Since his nagant video I subbed and I love his videos :D

  • thanks for showing this knife, very nice

  • The early 1970's seemed to be a good several years for Hickok45, I'm amazed at just how much stuff (guns, knives that he has kept all these years)

  • I really like seeing a knife being used and enjoyed. That is a great looking Knife. Thanks for posting

  • ★★★★★

  • hicop can you make a vid of how to clean an ak47?

  • Wonder how you looked back then

  • Your busted !!! You didnt spit on the patch....lol

  • more knife videos!

  • ★★★★★

Very nice knife you have there.

  • Sadly this days Puma makes most of its production in OEM Chinese factories, and the quality really suffer.

  • @Gungrave123, Is that why they are so "cheap" to buy now, as compared with prices I paid in the '70s?

  • @hickok45 Hickok how much did buy it for? (in the 70's I mean).

  • @hickok45 lol slo-mo knife cuting

  • @hickok45 hickok you gotta shot that bird

  • @Gungrave123 That's a shame. Recently though I heard an interview with a Puma rep at the blade show and a number of the knives he showed are still made in Germany. He talked about the chinese ones as just an option.

  • @Gungrave123 The Puma SGB and TEC lines are their Chinese knives.

  • good job on the video guys

  • Is there a specific reason that you don't use the ramrod that is on the gun?

  • @sparxcwg The ramrod on the gun is shorter than the one he's using, making it more awkward to push the ball all the way down.

  • @flxsptzr All I'm saying is that the rifle came with a ramrod for a reason. I have a muzzleloader, and I have found that it is the best fit, even if the other one was custom made.

  • @sparxcwg, Actually, the ramrods that come with muzzle loaders are the "worst" fit. They are correct diameter and all for loading, but once you ever get your hands on an extended length rod for cleaning and loading, you'll never touch the one that comes with the gun unless you're in the field and have no choice. I've never seen anybody who shoots much at a bench not have a long ramrod. Any big muzzleloading event will have many variations for sale. You'll enjoy shooting more with one.

  • @hickok45 hunh, I guess I must be partial to the "original" ramrod.

  • love the Slo-mo ending.

  • Love how hickok uploads a video pretty much every day. Some of the most quality gun(and knife) videos on the internet too. Keep it up.

  • @willythefrog1, That's because I'm on vacation. We'll get back to one or two a week pretty soon.
