Second, four-strokes are only adiquately suited for very tight supercross tracks, on anything else, two strokes have the advantage. I would suggest you shop for a newer Rm250 They have a hard hit like the 490 and the suspention on the RM is so confidence inspiring that you will find yourself blazing through stuff that would have you crying on the 490.Thanks for the great comments If you choose to go with one of them old bears I prey GOD watch over you as you buy but more important as you ride!Have a great day ! But if hillclimb is your cup of tea then I highly recommend the 490 just be careful on the way back down the hill!

A KX500 has alright suspention and the motors are strong and durable from what I have been told! Check some reviews on the net I know they didnt change much before the end of there production
Yes the 490 was faster until it topped out.Because the 82 was a four speed it lacked top speed unless you went to a small rear sprocket and dealt with a tall first gear..To make a long story short the WR walked away from the 490 after my bike ran out of gears.The 490 is faster in a short drag but it cant match the WR top speed.Although I doubt it would beat the WR 490 in a short or a long race.The WR450 is a great bike too in its environment.A real good woods bike and FireRoader

Nothin' wrong with a 250. My opinion of the 490 is mixed when it was running good nothin' could touch it until it topped out in fourth. Really neaded a fifth gear, unfortunitly the bikes jetting is finicky and tempature & altitude changes would have the bike running great then pinging detonating. Vibration wears on everything including the rider. The 490 had its day but a modern strong running 250 will cut much faster and consistent lap times and your arms will still function after the ride!
