Thanks for the awesome videos of your jouney. I think what you are doing is incredible. I wish I had that kind of dedication/drive! If your path leads into western Nebraska or South Dakota, let me know roughly where/when and I will try my best to meet you for a visit, provided you have time to stop for a bit. It would be great seeing you again, and catching up on old times, even if just for a hour or so. Best of luck on your journey - Dave DeHaai
@Elfox2 haha... Dave, thanks again for your generous offer. It would be awesome to hang out with you again. What's it been? 25 years? As a matter of fact, I have changed my routing because of the flooding... I now intend to pass thru your town, and visit several National Parks in SD (and WY). I'll communicate with you on FB and swap contact info) Thanks again young man and hope to see you soon. (BTW... I'm in Ames IA about 12 days ride, if the wind comes from the east.... 8 days:)
This may be a stupid question, but I have no experience with this. How does one cycle for a cause? All he is doing is riding his bike so how does he actually raise the money for the cause? I am thinking about giving my bike ride across America next year a cause, but I want it to successfully raise money for the endeavor.
@Violinfanatic actually this is an excellent question... there are several things you could do... I've met lots of cyclists who are riding for a cause and the best way is to contact an organisation that deals with your cause, and talk to them and explain your intentions. They will create a paypal account for your ride and then your can display that link on your website, blog, facebook etc or print it on a business card. Other thing you could do is to stop along the way and find places (more)
@Violinfanatic ...find place where you could be public.... like talking to local newspapers, radio stations, schools, etc. You could right a blog or create a website, the idea is to generate awareness. You don't nessasarily have to raise money. One of the people I've met were raising money to buy hand-crank bicycles for war veterans who lost legs. These bikes are $3500 dollars, and they have raised enough to buy 2 so far (giveabike(dot)com).
Thanks for the info. I've checked them out few days ago...Such good info...Keep on keeping on cycling...lol..I think your going to get bored after this journey if you don't plan another one..LOL..
I still can't stand seeing how loose fitting your helmet is....I dont think it would do you any good. I had a friend hit by a car and his helmet saved his life, unlike yours his stayed on his head when he hit the ground.
@BigRon092 hello BigRon... I carry a Gerber Multi-tool, a set of allen wrenches, a chain tool (it saved me once!) a hypercracker, and a tire patch repair kit... (I love Pedro tire levers)
@Violinfanatic I'll be crossing the Iowa border today and headed north and west. So, sadly no... I'm not going to be in MO... I did get the maps out and look at the Katy Trail... which I believe is the longest bicycle trail in the US
@armouredcockroach after retiring from the military... I decided to take a year off and ride around the country. this is my fifth bicycle tour, and it's the longest!
Darling im just of f out for a ride see you next year ( can't see it working for me ) my wife would have moved by the time I got back I do hope your writring the book what an adventure.
p.s you got me out for a ride in the woods since last we spoke I love the rain.
( it's infantary weather if it's not raining it's not training)
I think its great that we can all actually travel on a bike all over the USA..To tell you truth, I wasn't aware that we could actually get from the Westcoast to the East on a bike leagally on a bike...ITS a Awesome journey I'm sure..
@Douger4u777 take a look at the Adventure Cycling Association website. You will be amazed at the bike routes they have. The maps from the ACA show all the campgrounds, hostels, hotels, bike shops, grocery stores, and more. (in addition to a website with a great forum, they're on Facebook and have a youtube channel.... check'm out)
@bettytoo2 In the US the roads are divided into categories. we have highways, freeways, and interstates. Most of the time, bikes are only allowed on highways... but in some places, bikes are allowed on freeways and interstates

As soon as I saw Gendron Bicycles I figured he was one of my countrymen but I was expecting him to say he'd come from Montreal, not L.A. Whew!
Those exit ramps are scary but taking the shortest path across as you do is very smart.
