thanks for the info on this. I wasn't aware that the iPhone had IPS and thought that both screens should be the same, but I just noticed that they weren't and was wondering what was up. Good to know it wasn't just me or a defective unit.

wasn't there a 3rd gen? oh and btw, is there a difference between in the wifi connection between the 2 4th generation devices? like, does one have faster internet than the other or are they both similarly the same? because i'm saving up for one of them but i don't know which one would be better for its price

@violetgirl1996 Yes there was a 3rd gen, just I didn't have it. Yes the WiFi although not quoted by Apple does sometimes change a little between devices, they are similar but 4th gen has better range.

this isn't an accurate comparison. They all aren't running on the same firmware! The ipod touch 2G has the 3.1.3 and lower dock! So if u want to make a true comparison as far as speed or performance, you need to make sure all of the devices are on the same firmware.

WTF r u saying "IPS" bullshit? ipod touch can be used as a ohone believe it or not, it also has facetime, but for the fone apparently there's hardware u can plug in bottom of ipod touch (and 4th gen) and it has a sim and installs app automatically for it, and can use it as a phone.. = 10 x better than iphone 4 HAHAH :D!

The difference in thickness between the two touches is more of an optical illusion than anything else. You have to place them both face down on a table, like I did, to realize that the difference is around 1/2 mm (maybe more), almost unnoticeable in real life. I wouldn't say by any means that it's a lot thinner.
