I've always liked the bikes as generators idea. There was a HAM radio convention in my area recently that ran on bike generators only. For 24 hours straight people pedaled in shifts on several bicycles to generate the power needed for lighting, operating the radios and running the PA system. It's a great way to stay in shape and conserve power.
