  • Can I play the Sims 3 on it?

  • I had one of these too! A hand me down, except my monitor was green on black - I had no idea Oh Mummy was in colour! haha awesome memories.

  • @dNitza I had the green monitor too it was vile, but looking back it was quiet h@ck3r 3lit3

  • that sound reminds me of scrabble loading in when my mum, dad, brother and me would wait patiently in anticipation, fantastic memories.

  • I HAD ONE OF THESE!!!! AWESOME!!! I'm now 37. Bring back Amstrad!!

  • @steve7onfire i remember i got 1 for xmas 1 year, my mum spent 2 years paying it up.lol

  • Will it run Crysis?

  • i miss that tape loading noise..wish xbox 360s made that noise :/

  • Golden days!!!! I used to have one a long time ago lol

  • Hello from Greece.I have Amstrad464 too and still working. After i byied Playstation2 i stored it but i think i will use it again because i miss it.My mom gave it to me as a guift in 1985.Some games i can remember are Ace of Aces,Exolon,Thundercats,Barbarian.Carnov,WonderBoy,Target Renegate,Indiana Jones.I think i liked so much because of the keyboard that helped me to play so far the games instead of using a joystic.Thank you for the memories Nikolas Greece

  • Such a wonderful sound..lolol.. Whole family playing Fruit machine.. Class

  • My first computer :) Remember Oh Mummy very fondly, I used to play it with my Mum [lol]

  • Mine came with a 'modulator'..which meant i could play it on the telly..I then swapped tha modulator for a 'green screen ' monitor.. :)..I still have it , and mine still works as well :)

  • Ah yes, I remember this computer well. Although mine had a green and black monitor, not colour. Amazing gaming times.

  • i've been playing mine all day, forgot how long they take to load up a game! haha, worth it though. Give the PS3 or Xbox 20 years and they probably won't work at all. Can always trust these retro consoles :D

  • So glad I kept my CPCs (464 and 6128) Still get them out from time to time for a frustrating and humiliating game of 'Roland in the Caves' :-)

  • @storebror21 im sure i had one called roland on the ropes but this was yrs ago when i was about 12 and im almost 33 now

  • @DAJAZDJ1 yes i remember in, roland on the ropes and roland in the caves.

  • Loved it then and Love it now, the music from most of the games was great. An iconic computer of the 20th Century.

  • pourquoi j'ai vendu mon vieux C64!!! :( ?

  • I Loved The Loading sound :D

  • Music?

  • Hold control with your little finger, double tap the little enter with you thumb.

Piss off downstairs for a cup of hot brown and come back in 10 minutes...ahhh...good times.

  • my amstrads nearly 30 and so is yours

  • Oh mummy came with our amstrad, and mine also still works

  • Oh, Mummy! And that loading sound! Sigh. Don't make consoles like that anymore or that hardy.

  • You have brought back so many memories of my childhood, lol. I absolutely loved my Amstrad :)

  • 24 years old now lol

  • That's astonishing! My CPC died just before I got married. Would you consider selling it? I'm divorced now

  • My mate had this back in 89, I got the 6128 disk drive with a monitor and TV tuner. Commodore kinda wiped the floor with them, oh then PS1 did the same to them. Good old days!

  • Oh I loved my Amstrad! My friend thought I was joking about games coming on tape. ( 'What, like a cassette? Heheh....Are you joking me?') lol

  • who dares wins FTW! lol

  • Wow I remember my Amstrad lol and I can remember that sound it made too lol bring back memorys, I played harrie attack on it alot lol

  • I had my 464+ well pst it's expirey date. I knew it was dated but I couldn't afford a "real" computer untill around 1999 when Iwas 16. So every so often I would get it out and mess around with it. Until I dropped the moniter :-(

  • If anyone remembers the game ONE could you please do a video review if this game And explain to me what the game was about.

  • Does anyone know of a game called ONE...? I remember playing it when I was a kid but honestly I was never good at it as I didn't understand what needed to be done and the cover really didn't give and indication as to what needed to be accomplished.

  • @Broxi1979 RUN" or RUN"", either will work, if you have a disc type CAT, then RUN"filename.bas"

  • @Broxi1979 wasn't it RUN"

lol. Blimey I loved that thing. Thanks uploader. Good to see it in (Amstrad)Action again ;)

  • I feel as old as that Amstrad and I'm just about working! Kids today don't realise that when wanted a bit of gaming action we had to wait 10/15 mins for the game to load (and that was not always certain) I had a Commodore 16 (C16) for my first computer for xmas and didn't sleep for 3 months before Santa dropped it by my bedside.

    Thanks uploader for this video.

Rainbow Island deserves more credit and praise such a great and underrated game.

  • I had one of these! My first computer which fascinated me enough to get a job programming! I used to love Amstrad Basic!!! Total respect to the Amstrad, and to you for uploading the video! Long live Lord Alan Sugar, and down with Spectrum!

  • Oh, so beautiful! Brings back childhood memories of me and my cousins playing MagMax, Donkey Kong (when Mario was still a carpenter!) or West Bank for hours on end when we should've been asleep for hours *lol* Gee, I think it's time to dig out the good ol' CPC from the attic and set it up again... just to hear that old familiar song and wait endlessly for a game to load... Datasette rules! *lol*

  • I'd forgot all about Oh Mummy....ahh brings back memories thanks :)

  • I had one too!

  • I like how quickly the OS boots ... beats windows ;-)

  • god, man!! been travelling 25 years back in time thanx to you!!! respect!

  • Nostalgic...!

  • I think you can play on this Crysis2 on ultra high

  • my u or o doesnt work :(

  • I need to convince the mrs that this is whats missing from my life lol

  • Where's the music from? Sounds like Kelly Bailey's stuff, the composer for the Half Life series...

  • Comment removed

  • i still have mine.got around 100 games with it.my favs were wild bunch,double dragon,hunchback and spellbound.

  • I remember Ye ar kung fu being pretty good on the Amstrad, also Outrun, I was jealous cos the c64 versions were rubbish, although the c64 was a better computer overall, especially for sound and playability.

  • Oh... games were elemental, but DID you have to choose one of the VERY FIRST games created for the machine¿¿?? (and maybe included with it). There were quite a few games more sophisticated than that (well by that time's standards, of course¡¡!!) since they kept developing games fr at least 7 years after the machine's release (and the game displayed is from the very start of the computer's history).

  • Wow that was awesome! I love the amstrad!

  • Now this brings back some memories! I think this was the first machine I ever played games on. Out family had the green screen version though. :)

I remember it like it was just a year ago. If anyone knows the name of the platform type game where you played as a monkey like character and used items like ropes to swing across gaps I would be most grateful. :D

  • Good games are still released on this.

  • Wicked stuff. The kids of today will be saying the same about the PS3 and Xbox in 20 years trust ;)

  • wow nice good old days :P

  • @1.22 is like music to my ears m8y

  • This was my first computer... It was amsome thanks for the memories

  • i had a cpc464 mine had a green screen though!

  • @srspower same here, green screen. Cldnt afford the colour version :-)

  • Wow! This has bought back some memeries, mine was a pain sometimes as I used to wait for the game to load and all of a sudden ERROR used to come up!! BUT that never stoped me re trying LOL. I had the green screen version!

  • iv still got mine and i think i got it in 1984 or 1985 its in the loft somwhere and i got addicted to roland in the caves which was made by AMSOFT also harrier attack

  • ive still got mine and the floppy drive

  • That loading sound is familiar. Its like someone playing the flute! Anyone remember Kane?

  • @DAVIDUK2381 I know this is a really old post... but - Kane? Yup, pretty sure I remember that one, a really dodgy Western with shooting and then a horse bit chasing a train or stage coach? Was that it?

  • @MrCheapkills Sure was! Still play it on the emulator when Im REALLY bored!

  • The monitor was bloody heavy too. Lucky you didnt get a hernia lifting the damn thing! Still loved it.

  • I'v got one of them! But mine dont have colour function keys just gray and black :) its look allmost like pc ;)

  • man u was lucky i only had a green screen

    love the loading noise

  • @crabyars yeah man, me too! I got a modulator to put it through a matsiu 14" though!

  • Flashback!

    I had a CPC 464!

  • like the way he types run"" instead of pressing ctrl and small enter key, mine still works too

  • Oh my god!! The Oh mummy! I hadn't see that for 20 years!! Nostalgia...

  • You should have loaded up Sultans Maze, hehe.

  • i love this computer!!!its for sale if any one wants it!!i used to love roland in the ropes and ro;and in the caves and pin ball on this machine !!!!let me know if you want any more ifo on it!!

  • @cheekyface3 You love this computer so much, you want to sell it. TRAITOR.

  • @bazfanv2 eh.....TRAITOR ?why did you say that?i do love this computer,i am selling it because im having an loft clear out and i have no room to store it,and among other thing so........thats why im selling it,hopefully to a good home.......now.......those are my reasons.......cant believe i have to justify myself here.......

  • @cheekyface3 do you live in the UK?. If you do ill give you a tenner inc p and p for it, and you can rest safe in the knowledge that it is in a good home were it will be set up and used daily.

  • @bazfanv2 no i dont live in the uk,and i think it will cost more than 10 quid to send it

  • I hated getting read errors a or b!! I got mine in 1984! Still working too. Love the lodaing sound!! lol

  • Absolutely great mate..I must get one of these with the colour monitor as I always wanted one but I was more of a commodore man.....Couldn't afford both in them days...Great video....

  • remember the oh mummy theme

  • i had the cpc6128 the amstrads were ace

  • that shit is the future of gaming

  • Bastard! I paid £349 for it which made Sir Alan Sugar a very rich man today.

  • I had a cpc as a kid, as well as i C64 and a Speccy +2 (all at different times of course, my family werent rich!). My cpc was always my favourite, even though i only had a green screen with it. I have just picked up a working CPC6128 (disk drive) with colour monitor, printer, extra 3.5inch floppy, extra tape deck, loads of game on tape and disk and loadsa issues of the amstrad magazines of the day. Got it free off freecycly and its mint!!!

  • Kids today don't know how lucky they are to have machines available that we could only of dreamt of back in the 80's.

  • @Markjuk Its funny that you say that. I used to dream, really dream of having graphics like we have today in the 80s, and now even tho i have a 360 and a gameing pc, i spend most of my play time loading up emus for c64 - atari 2600 - amiga, etc etc.

  • que bueno jejejejej siempre te recordare,mi hermana y mi padre tambien

  • Nice video, but the monotonic and generic newskool 'music' kinda disturbs the authenticity. I'd rather listen to the real Amstrad sounds than this sync-effect-crap.

  • wot about knightlore. do ya rememba dat game?!

  • Comment removed

  • ahhh refreshing, had so many good times with that Amstrad. We still have it too and its still hooked up in my bros room. havent switched it on in about 10 years or more. i might give it a try and see what happens.

  • I'm amazed the tapes aren't disintegrated. Did you make backup copies ? You can also download the old Roms online & put them on tape. Not sure how but it can be done :D.

  • A faster way of loading from tape is to hold down Control then press the small ENTER key.

  • ha, used to play that at my nans house 15 yrs ago. My fav was Roland on the ropes and fruit machine lol

  • OMG I can't believe that I found this!! I was only 5 when I got mine. So many memories. What was that game when you started as a guy and had to jump over these jets that blasted fire, then there were these alians that looked like jelly fish and you had a gun that shot out electric waves??

  • amazing video Amstrad 464 was my present for Christmas, the year was 1988 and all the kids we loved it,when AMIGA 500 came out few years later we throw it away.....anyway your video really touched me my friend thanks for sharing it with us.greetings from Greece!

  • I remember my granddad saying about Mercedes cars "they don't make em' like the used to...all hand crafted..all you get now is mass manufactured stuff..."

Well now I can say this to kids about computers from the 80's no hard drive and the only moving part was the tape / deck or disk drive: Built to last. The O/S was built into the ROM...and it always had a 'blue screen' because it was Meant to!!!

This thing would always start up!!

  • This video rocks big time! I got my 464 end of '85 and still have it. And it sent shivers down my back to hear those loading sounds (retro symphonics, if you ask me ;-) again after what feels like 100 years... Man, those were the best days of my life :)

  • Thanks for all your comments and viewing. Yup, Oh Mummy was a great wee game, I remember being quite addicted to it when i was young, and Harrier Attack was good at the time too. Really basic games but some of them were quite addictive. All the games were slow to load compared to nowadays technology. Favourites of what I recall are the series of Dizzy games, Chase HQ, Rainbow Island and Turrican. Many of the games i could only afford at the time when they came out on budget at £2.99 or that.

  • wot bout de game knightlore . do ya rememba that one !

  • @erinsattic ahhh i loved oh mummy like pac mans poor relation.... keep hold of your comp mate be worth a few quid in years to come, im gutted as mine was kept at my mums house and she took it to tip along with my 100 or so games!!!!!!!! she thought it was old junk...

  • @erinsattic

    amstrad???

  • do ya rememba walkin inta computer shopz an all de different ones wud be there, ones like da commador plus 4, the ti994a, da spectrum plus, de QL! , the oric atmos (dat one woz ok) , wot about de dragon (dere woz a coputer call de dragon!) an den do you rememba walkin in an de kid's'd be standin around programmin them ta say rude words an stuff (but de ti994a voice simulator wouldn let ya put a rude word in). den we went home in de car.

  • I have a dragon.

  • ah dat iz cool! i alwayz thought they wer cool. how do ya find it now? do ya stil program 'n' do gamez on it !

  • Yea still play games on it but I'm only 18 it was my dads 2nd computer after the uk101 nd he did loads of programming on it though he doesn't anymore, he moved on to the atari st then falcon then pc.

Think it was called Dragon because it was made in Wales, kind of after the red dragon in their flag.

  • This just brought back memeories of playing the 464 as a kid. I remember having to wait around for ages for it to load lol. We had to get rid of it though when it broke. I brought one last year from ebay but without a screen, as I was told I could get connector leads to play it on a TV, but no luck so far finding them.

  • ...we couldn`t afford a Computer here....that was a lux....hahahahaha...and what we could do is...to see it exposed in the shops and we had to travel miles just to see what a Computer looks like!I was 8yrs old then!

  • Love to the cpc464 my first computer, I still think it's a gorgeous design.

  • My CPC 6128 (Schneider brand) is also still working after 15 years just sitting in a box in the attic. Only thing I had to replace was the rubber driving belt for the disk drive. Just a shame I only got a green monitor (16 shades of green, 4 of them simultaneously!), not the color version.

  • mine, a 6128 is dead 5 years ago ... :(

  • Nice one! My cousin tricked his absent(guilty) dad into buying him one of these....the old "it'll help me with homework" line. I have many agonizing memories of sitting fingers crossed hoping that a game wouldn't crash on loading, and many fond ones of playing all manner of crazy games for this system.

  • my grandad has just cleared out his loft and he gave me one of these! brings back the good old days when me and my cousin used to play roland on the ropes and HARRIER ATTACK! lol im pretty sure its quicker than vista aswell haha

  • Well, the 400-series circuits that were mainstream in the 80's, their life expectancy was estimaded to be 15 years. I have a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer that was manufactured in1986, so it should have died due to circuit decay/oxidizing 8 years ago. Well, the unit is still working, and it's working perfectly. I guess the 80's quality guys were underestimating themself. Go long live the 80's!

  • ça me rappelle mon enfance!!! oh mummy :) j'ai du y jouer des centaines d'heures !!! tu dois avoir le dernier amstras au monde (gardes le precieusement)

  • I got one on eBay a few months ago, never been opened!

aaannndd, it was £3. I kid ye not!

  • Your 464 is pretty good nick. If your interested in negotiating a fair sale price contact me, if not, enjoy it and be sure to look after it. Mate, you have yourself a fine piece of 8-bit history there :-)

  • the keyboard is totaly diffrent to the one i had back in 84.i had a green screen only available at that time im 36 now and i enjoyed thoes games great fun..classics.

  • All i remeber is my dad suddenly sending an Amstrad from Guernsey through the post, what was funny was the Monitor never arrived, never ever could figure out where it ended up, but had to buy an MP1 Modulator (which i still have the box to) so i could plug it into my tv (cool huh) then eventualy buying a replacement for £80!!!

  • the other thing i remember is the fights and arguments about which system was better; the amstrad or commodore

  • Or the spectrum ?

  • lets face it most either had c64 or spectrum... the amstrad / bbc b / atari 8 bit owners didn't get a look in with maybe 1 or 2 people owning one..lol.. I had an speccy & c64.. I saw the merits of some games on one machine over the other.

  • actually that is right. most of my friends back in the day had a c64. most didnt know what the hell an amstrad was.

  • Don't forget the Spectrum :)

  • omg this is the first computer we ever had. i remember we used to play this flight sim game that took like 1/2 an hour to load before you could play!!!

  • I loved this system. I used to play dragon ninja and ghost n' goblins alot.

  • I Never Forgot that. I am Very Love and remember CPC464, CPC664, CPC6128. I buy Amstrad CPC464 at 1985 Nov!!!!! 24YRS!!!!!! since. I use Emulator Amstrad on PC now. Much thank you video youtube. I am very happy.

    Thanks, I'll do that.

    Cheers.

  • Flashback! Oh mummy, played that heaps of times!

  • I cut my teeth programming on one of these bad boys back in the 80's. I wouldn't be a System Analyst today without that early start on this machine.

  • cool video, yeah i had a 464 and it was a work horse computer thats for sure, loved the noise of the tapes when they loaded up, would have that as an annoying ring tone.

  • i would like 2 see my xbox360 working ok in a years time let alone 20 lol

  • I still have 1 of them have not played in long time disc/disk drive want work on some games but loved it best game barrbarnna and bomb jack all the games rock from Ghostbusters to indina jones and beond love it

  • I had a CPC 464 with disk drive(!) and mostly played Fruity Frank

  • I used to have one of these, loved Jet Set Willy!

  • I'm going to try and get hold of one of these.. I've got an amstrad PCW 9512...

    I want one!

  • oh, sweet memories

my monitor has broken down beyond repair, now trying to connect to tv or a pc monitor.

    any hints?

  • Get the empulator called WinAPE 2.0 Alpha 17.

    It's really, really good.

You can reexperience nostalga! on a modern PC. Tapes load very quick LOL.

  • A CTM 644 was my TV for a long time! :)

  • Thanks, I'll do that.

    Cheers.

  • No sorry I just wanted to say "Good Luck! / Did you succeed?" :o)#

  • No...not yet I haven't tried it, but thanks for the reminder, though! Maybe I'll have a go over the weekend, been too busy over the past months- all work, no play!

I did manage to get the CPC464 connected to a TV via SCART, but am having problems loading games, perhaps I could get a separate power supply for the tape deck, as it seems to be interfering with the computer.

    All the best!

  • Looks like a fun little computer. In school we had c64s. I never really got into the games. Now I have CSS64 on my pc and sometimes play vintage games with it. Fun. Like Wizzard of Wor. And BlueMSX is also fun to fiddle around with.

  • I had one of these but did not have the player on the keyboard. The sound sounds like a dial up modem. Thay were great at the time

  • Thanks everyone for your responses and rating my video :-)

  • Mine still works, but the monitor's broken so I can't play anything on it :(

Those Amsoft games like Oh Mummy and Roland on the Ropes rocked as well..

    ah, happy days.

  • Ah I lost my cope of 'Oh Mummy' - but I've just bought one for 99p on eBay!!

  • Ah memories! Both my 464 and 6128 still work perfectly - great machines

  • me and my brother had a 464. some ace games but the cassete deck was useless, and you couldnt link up a seperate one like you could with a spectrum . when i was a kid, could of never imagined in a million years the type of games around now :-)

  • Cool ;)

  • hahaha i remember this sound xD and remember the oh mummy are a big game xD

  • Old good times..

  • My 464 died. One day it just conked out... and you can bet your life there was nobody around to fix it in this day and age.

That loading sound seems like music to me these days.

  • this is the first one i have ever seen work. my uncles one never worked even through it was brand new all it ever done was say "read error" Maybe he should be fired LOL
