I had been following Pop idol religiously until at the end of January 2002 I lost my mind and was admitted to a mental hospital and missed the Pop Idol final, thanks for ulpoading so I can watch it now!
it still gives me goosebumps watching this, and to think will young was the under dog in the final, i remember watching it at a friends house with about 6 girls and they were all massive gareth fans and i was the only one who wanted will young to win, i jumped for joy when he won =D

When pop idol started i didnt even know who the judges were. They just worked in the music industry. I only knew the DJ foxy lol.

@GLFVIDEO thats not true, Will is very humble - yes he's more confident now, and very successful, but he is also a very genuine person. He also gives away alot of money to charities he supports. He's one of the few decent and generous singers around!
Nothing will ever, ever match the final between Will and Gareth. The build up the entire week leading up to the final was immense, there'll never be anything like that again, nothing as big as that again.
I have to disagree. I remember very well everything about the two shows.
Pop Idol took everything to a different level because of the live shows and it became massive prime time Saturday night TV, and while PopStars did similar huge things the year before, it didn't cross over beyond teens and young adults which Pop Idol did.
PopStars was huge, but Pop Idol was massive! This final week culmiated in a massive TV event and totally cemented Ant And Dec as superstars and Simon Cowell.

Hm I disagree, I think the original Popstars had a bigger build up especially in the final weeks.
You should watch American Idol it's still like this.
Also the new series of X Factor will have a massive build up considering it'll have 5-6 Mill more viewers than this did.
