  • In Latin America, Creole is known as Criollo and only means White people of Spaniard, Portuguese, or French heritage born in the Americas. In Louisiana back in the day, it too only meant White people of French and Spanish descent, but somehow the definition evolved to include Mulattoes as a another type of Creole. So you got White Creoles, and Black Creoles. But Creole in New Orleans is a culture and anyone from New Orleans is part of that culture, regardless of race. Creole means native born.

  • HE said his family line is Jewish

  • I'am half creole and truely embrace my black race. we are still black regardless of what we our mixed with. If I go to a klans rally Im still going to get lynched so fuck it. BLACK POWER

  • im half creole 2 and i agree with you

  • i am half creole and i am also drk skinned so i just dont mention that i have creole ancestry unless my mom is around so they can see her green eyes and indian looking hair and olive skin

but my whole family is proud to be black because to me thats the most beautiful and the most natural race there is because in a way we actually came from mother earth

  • each and everyone one of you are missing the point and sound just as mininformed as he does.. I AM a Louisiana Creole and it has nothing to do with race...it's a culture. Therefore, you CANNOT be "Mixed with Creole". Creole is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities. There are some people who aren't or don't consider themselves mixed (monoracial) who are Louisiana Creoles.. Creole is a Culture and that's it! You can't be half of a culture. either you are or you arent & if you aren't

  • then you're simply of Creole descent... That's it. But you guys really need to start learning about your own culture/heritage... the one that you're claiming pâské vouzòt gain ça tou tòr! ê ôsi, aprònn langaj français ê mêm kréyol si vouzòt olé péler vou-mêm kréyol.. ça c'est juste!

  • wow i could have sworn that i wrote that comment like a whole year ago

but if it really bothers you

well then for now on i will say im black

because even though its on both sides of my family, i dont really take much pride in it like you do

i look at myself as black before creole, in my opinion thats just another name for black people

    there are you saticfied???

  • fortunately, the 3rd group is the smallest...most creoles I know consider themselves black creoles...it's not such a complicated situation..people make it more complicated than it is..

  • well..I am black creole, and I find there are three divisions of creoles (excluding white ones) 1. Creoles who consider themselves black (although one doesn't have to have mixed blood to be creole). 2. Creole who consider themselves neither black nor white and believe they should be considered a separate race. (although creole is not a race, it's more of an ethnicity like latinos). and 3. the creoles who are ashamed of their black heritage but praise their white ancestry. Fortunately, the 3rd...

  • @emergencyexit16 Not a separate but a separate ethinicty.

  • I think its sad. So I'm getting that the blacks hate the whites, the whites hate the blacks. They made children that are made from them both and they both hate them too. Not black enough not white enough. I am creole, but from MI. I think ppl are damn fools, just love each other. Blood is all the same color.

  • u dumbass all of u creole is black and french and alot more but mostly those two im creole and im proud of it and creoles dont hate black people blacks hate creoles thank u

  • I can only speak from experience of the attitudes that I have encountered with such. "If you black get back" Also,a video of creoles admit that they consider the darker ones the black sheep of the family and made fun of them. Marry lightskin not the darkie. I guess you wont consider that as hate, but superiority complex over dark skin. Maybe that is why blacks may feel RESENTMENT not hate. We all know most black tend to accept their multiracial fam members;while white tend to disown them.

  • you dont know what the fuck your talking about

  • From the little time I do watch TV I see this ignorance, even here on YouTube but I see this same ignorance almost everyday in person. I know all about media stereotypes and how they send biased messages but sadly this goes beyond the media. Any honest black person knows there's far too many self destructive issues going on within the black community, lack of unity, etc. One good thing most Creoles have is unity and a deep desire to preserve the culture.

  • That is true what u say that the black community lacks unity and that is for alot of reasons, one is the lack of knowledge that blacks have of their culture many like u seem to only have a view of black culture from the media which only showcases the negative. To preserve the Creole culture I beleive that u should have a desire to and respect for all of the cultures that make u who u are, the problem is that many creoles dont as far as the black is concerned and do not seek further knowledge.

  • The media doesn't just show negative images of black people, that mainly comes from BET. But from what I understand BET wasn't always like that, it just changed for the worse. There are positive black people on TV but black youth themselves give more attention to the negativity. They have the power to put an end to this ignorance but greed gets in the way. That's why every song nowadays is about getting money. You can't blame the media for everything.

  • BET does not show the majority of degrading black images. The Black youths that give more attention to the negative stereotypes are the ones who dont have a postitive self image and have little understanding of the great culture of which they are apart of. There are positive images of blacks but that are bombarded by a hoard of negative ones and those are the ones that are portrayed most often and thats what people tend to beleive and u have proven that.

  • Well I disagree about BET, most blacks have been doing a whole lot of complaining about it in recent years. BET is nothing but Black Exploitation TV!

  • Ohh BET could do alot better I agree.

  • I read where many protested in front of the CEO Debra Lee's house.

  • HaHaHa... Wouldn't it be easier to say, "I'm Black." or "I'm an African descendant."? I guess it's easier to say that he's Jewish. LOL.

  • I am creole!not white and not black.I am A French Creole of Louisiana

  • Creoles never wanted to be anything but Creole! We were not so stupid to think that whites would accept people who not all were even white! We fully acknowledge that we are of mixed heritage, and that's why we look different, come in all colors. I wish these stereotypes of Creoles stop! Pure ignorance! History wise, we are different from African Americans. We have no control over that.

  • You desire to be different; however, society (aka White people) won't allow you to be. I'm from Louisiana. Black people come in all colors too. Is that a coincidence? It's quite funny...

  • do you think we give a damn what white people think of us? maybe you do.

  • Oh, I could care less. But, the reality is that many of our people do care. We often go to great lengths for their approval. Chemical relaxers are a prime example of our assimilation; however, a good example of how I don't need their approval is demonstrated by my head of wonderfully nappy hair. You don't know anything about me to say that I care what european descendants think.

  • Well many Creoles don't even have typical black features. Light skin with fine hair are not black features! Maybe you don't even know what a real black person looks like "Afrikan queen"! Maybe you should do a search on "The Proof" by Kola Boof. We also don't care what black folks think of us.

  • well what someone does with their hair is their own business.

  • I'm sorry to tell you this, but the WORLD also believes in the one-drop rule. Ask biracial person that has a Black parent. They could be half Asian, they're still considered and treated like a Black person from their non-Black parent's race. There are "mixed" Black/Native Americans who have to fight against their tribes in the court system just to be considered a member of the tribe today. Most "creoles" look like Black ppl which is b/c African genes are dominant. When will the separation end?

  • I'll say this again, we don't care what nobody says of us, black, white, biracial or whoever, we ARE Louisiana French Creoles who have been fighting for our right to self identify and not be lumped into any monoracial category because we DESERVE our right to preserve our heritage! Our people have gone down in history as forgotten. Have a problem with it then TOO BAD!

  • "I'm sorry to tell you this, but the WORLD also believes in the one-drop rule."

And did you know that many whites support a multiracial category? Why is it that they have an "other" category on some forms? In the past 10-15 years blacks have been promoting the "one drop rule" more than anyone! They do this for political reasons only!

And also science has proven that all humans descend from Africa, so I guess whites are blacks too huh?

  • This statement comes from Nicholas Jones Chief, Racial Statistics Branch of the U.S. Census Bureau:

The census collects data in an additional category called "Some Other Race," which has a write-in area to capture responses such as Creole. People who report their ethncity as Creole are classified as "Some Other Race" in the census, not under the category "Black or African American."

    >>What Creoles are asking for is a Louisiana Creole ethnicity category, not a separate racial category.

  • I've asked "creole" ppl what is creole and I get different answers from every other person. I bet if you ask 1000 Japanese ppl what Japanese is, they'll all give you the same damn answer. How are you different from Black ppl history wise? What genetically makes you different? I know plenty on Black ppl who have your so-called creole traits. Are they creole too? Is the real definition of creole just lighter-toned Black ppl, who may have other recessive traits (look more european than other Blacks

  • There are different kinds of Creoles in case you didn't know. We Louisiana Creoles are of mixed french, black, indian, spanish along with a few other ethnicities. Why don't you watch the video on my page along with the one here "Too black 2 be white, white 2 be black. That's our story. Inbetween. We deserve our own ethnic category because we are unique. Our history is different from blacks in that we were free, not slaves and some became wealthy.

  • We've already explained what our Creole people are. There are other kinds of Creoles. History wise, we were free not slaves. That's how many became wealthy. Also I'm going on phenotypical traits, anybody without typical black racial features (skin color & hair) is NOT black, this means that close to 90% of Creoles would not fit the definition. We are against the flawed racist concept of "one drop" that whites came up with.

  • There were enslaved creoles. Thats a lie. Most creole ppl I know aren't wealthy. One who I know relaxes her hair even. I know traits that are African in origin. So, if your features are similar to another Black person who also has recessive traits (you cant tell a creole from a lighter toned Blk person) then that makes you different. That's what you want everyone to believe? Simply skin and hair doesn't make a race; but it does show their genetic expression and hence their origin.

  • It's obvious you don't know shit about Creoles! Many Creoles are hard working successful people. And most of their features are more closer to white than black. Why do you think blacks thought of Creoles as too white to be black? There's a video of it on here! Along with the one on my page. It seems to me that you like telling people what they are or aren't. You must be jealous or have issues. And if you say that hair doesn't make a race then why is black hair diff from other races?

  • What does being hard working have to do with race? I said many creoles aren't wealthy b/c their ancestors were enslaved right with all the other Black ppls ancestors. If their features are so close to white, most of them wouldn't look like fair skinned Black ppl. I'm not jealous of "creoles". I LOVE my race and it pisses me off that some choose to run away from it. This division is based on the Willie Lynch letter. Some Jewish/Middle Eastern ppl have afros, that doesn't make them Black.

  • After Marie Therese(Coin Coin) earned her freedom she paved the way for the freedom of her offspring and that paved the way for Creoles to become land owners and accumulate wealth. You really need to do some research. You must be threatened by Creoles! At least we have culture and are close. And we have a Creole Heritage Center in Louisiana to help preserve our heritage with many members.

  • There were also other Black ppl who bought their freedom too. What does that have to do with anything? Most of the Blk ppl were still enslaved. So, Black ppl don't have culture and aren't close? "Creole" ppl can't even give me a solid definition of what creole is. Some say that they are Black and also creole b/c creole is a type of Black ppl. Some say differently. You say that creole isn't Black. Well, I guess being able to define a nonexistent race is hard. LOL

  • Honey you really need to stop putting words in people's mouths. No Creole I know ever denied any African heritage so it is ridiculous on your part to accuse us of denying blackness. Just what point are you trying to make? Looks like Carla clearly explained everything to you yet you continue arguing. The definition of Louisiana Creoles is explained in great detail on her video. I'm a Proud Creole from Louisiana. Do you have a problem with that because you want to hear me just say I'm black?

  • We can tell our own kind especially in Louisiana and other cities mainly because Creoles live in their own communities and because of their French surname. New Orleans 7th ward was majority Creole and you tell me we didn't know our own? Get real!

  • So, you can't really tell them apart by physical characteristics (phenotypic expression of genes), like other races (Asian, African, European). You have to tell them apart b/c they try to exclude others from their communities and therefore are separated in their own areas and last names? French, British, Spanish = European= same race. Ghanaian, Nigerian, South African= African= same race. Having a french last name is based on the french(european race) slave owners.

  • I have friends that are creole and some look very close to white and some you can clearly see Black features as for your comments on fine hair and light skin that is not synonymous with white and there are BLACK people that fit into that my mother fits that and trust me she is Black and there are Africans as well look at pictures of the Ethiopians and the Sudanese and Somalians. Traits that u deem white have their black origins it seems as if u have a problem with being at all considered black.

  • I never said that no Creoles have any black features. Seems like you misunderstood me. I said that many of them (the originals) looked more close to white than black. That's why most Creoles were not accepted by blacks. Creoles over the past years have mixed in more with blacks so they don't look too much like the Creoles from back in the day but still some do. And are you saying that fine hair & light skin are originally black traits? Please explain that! And I am not denying any blackness.

  • Im saying that light skin and fine hair is not synonymous with white thats why i said look at pictures of the Ethiopians Somalians and Sudanese many of them who are not mixed by the way fit that description of light skin and fine hair. If everyone originated from Africa why wouldnt all traits have black originns. Also with all the definitions of Creole it seems to be more of a culture and heritage than an actual race. So really its Black people of the creole culture but in the end still BLACK

  • Do these Ethiopians and Somalians have the same heritage as Louisiana Creoles? So how can you say that Creoles white like features are not associated with their French or Spanish genes? And how do you know these Ethiopians and Somalians are not mixed? They must be mixed.

  • The only reson why I brought up Ethiopians and Somalians is just to say that fine hair and or light skin is no indication that one is mixed, those features are not uniquely white I would never say that a Creoles features are not due to being mixed that would be ignorant but it is also ignorant to think that non creoles who may be light or have fine hair are mixed the Ethiopians and Somalians are Black Africans.

  • Your statement is ridiculous if you're saying a black African person can have BOTH fair skin AND fine hair without being mixed with any other race!

  • Why do u think that its ridiculous there are plenty people in America that are not mixed and look like that, my mother is light skined and has fine hair, not as fine as a white person but its not like my father's and she is a BLACK woman.

  • Yes there are many people in America that are mixed, Hispanics, even white folks! Many whites in America have Native American ancestry. Native Americans used to be classified as colored. Not all people who are classified now as white have always been looked upon as white. The 1st humans to walk the earth are the only ones who can be seen as racially pure, and that is black Africans.

  • That's it. I couldn't have said that any better.

  • Thank you, you have made some great comments to. It just seems like its the age old thing that some blacks will do, say, and claim anything in order to not be called black and that is sad because if they had any clue of how beautiful our culture really is they wouldnt do that. They have a guy on here who is "creole" and he acknowledges that heritage but he considers himself to be black I think its silly that he can do that but other creoles would hate to.

  • Exactly. How can it be legitimate if everyone in the so-called creole race doesn't even classify it the same way? If you ask a 100 Asian ppl what is Asian, they'll all give you the same answer. It's crazy. This type of division is why we'll never see real change in this country. Our ppl can't even agree to being in the same race- let alone anything else. All while the justice, educational, and media systems are unjust and contribute to many of the problems we have in the community.

  • Thats right and the reason why asking 100 Asian people and them classifying themselves Asian is because they see it as something good to be proud of with us its that people are not proud the girl who u were commenting with should know why blacks did not like Creoles because Im sure it was more than how they looked also I stated to her that it seems like Creole is a culture and heritage not a race and thats true for Haitians becuase they call themselves creole but not to define race but culture

  • First of all Creole is not a race nor has any Louisiana Creole ever said it was. IT IS A CULTURE, HERITAGE & ETHNICITY! And just because Creoles have black blood in them does NOT mean they are just black! That is straight up ignorant! Who are you to be defining race? Does the majority of Africans agree with you? I've met Africans and African Americans who didn't see me as one of them because of my features. I've even heard blacks say the Arabs are black too! How ridiculous is that!

  • Why are you trying to knock down Creole culture for black culture? You and Afrikanqueen are just racists because you want Creoles to only acknowledge their African heritage and none of the others, plain & simple, that is sad!

  • I am not knocking creole culture I actually agree with alot that you have said, I think its a very interesting and unique culture and it is clear that Creoles have other heritages than Black I understand that it is a mixture of these cultures that make them Creole. The only problem that I have is that some beleive that makes them better and dont acknowledge their black heritage and look down on Blacks as if they are inferior because they are not mixed and that is just a fact that that goes on.

  • It is blacks themselves who treated Creoles different. Yet you both want to make Creoles look bad. Those with fair skin & fine hair were looked upon as white by blacks and even beaten on! Why do you think we have the film called Too White to be Black by Maurice Martinez? It's not just Creoles, all the other ethnicites seem to have a hard time getting along with blacks. Blacks have no one to blame but themselves. They tend to mock other people's cultures.

  • You are obviously not reading what I said closely, I have no reason or desire to make creoles look bad I am only stating what I have witnessed and what other Creoles have told me. And if u think that creoles did not look down upon blacks u are crazy. White people started that and Im sure u have heard the sentiment that people have about being closer to whit makes u better, obviously blacks resented Creoles for that attitude and thats where it began.

  • Creoles have historically helped blacks both free & slave. I say overall blacks have treated Creoles bad than vice versa. Ya'll want to blame the victims than the white power system that forced Creoles into black or white. That is what we're continuing to fight against. We are simply reclaiming our original identity. Black organizations are against us and that angers us. For any Creole to support this racist "one drop" is like a Jew supporting Hitler.

  • The comparison to Hitler is no where close and so extreme It would take too long to argue just know that was a crazy statement. I do blame the White power system for creating the issue but blacks just didnt start to dislike creoles out of the blue and for no reason and I have creole friends and their parents dont like blacks for the simple fact that they are blacl and not creole and beleive that their blood would be tainted if their children would have children with someone who is black.

  • Oh yeah did you know there was a "one drop rule" in Nazi Germany for Jews too? Even now racist whites use that for Jews no matter how white Jews look. One drop is treating someones blood like a disease and I'm suppose to accept this crap! Yes it was a good comparison because you are supporting a concept that helped to destroy your people whether it be physical or social. Destruction is destruction. Some Creoles don't even acknowledge their Creole heritage.

  • It is not the same because Blacks have not gon out and killed masses of Creole or subject them to inferior living in containment. I will state again I do not support that, I beleive you should be called Creole but do not have to establish that by denouncing your black heritage which many creoles not all but many do and u know that.

  • From all the Creole literature and videos I've seen none denounced any African heritage. The most popular Creole website French Creoles . com has sections about African history. There will always be those who act bourgeois, whether black, Creole, Hispanic, etc.

  • Thats true and I made sure that I said some Creoles denounce African heritage not all

  • Also blacks have alot of issues but we are not nor have ever been destroyed, people made attempts and we still go on despite the negatives. Again u prove that some Creoles dont respect blacks and it obvious u know very little of black culture. Understand that I respect Creole culture but I am no fool that a large make up of that Culture is black which cannot be denied.

  • They want us to hate white folks and strictly represent for Africa but won't mention anything about Africans who helped sell their people into slavery.

  • Yeah and what about these NOI members who deny the enslavement of Africans by Arabs cause they think Islam is their culture! Why don't they come under attack?

And I just had a Native person tell me that a lot of blacks and whites say they have Native blood in them but do nothing to help them. It's because of the self-centered attitude like this Afrikanqueen person.

  • Nowadays I can hardly turn on my TV without seeing black people proudly promoting stereotypes about themselves (and now as I'm writing this!!) but when whites do it then it's big news! This so called black culture is destructive, what was good has greatly deteriorated.

  • And I dont know what u mean by this so called black culture and it seems u are only refering to the media's interpratation of black culture which Im here to tell you is soo much more than that. Your very attitude and statements prove what I have been saying, if u had respect for black culture and actually researched it at all you would not say what u have said because you would realize we are more than the stereotypes.

  • I am soooo confused! I truely hope that through this video you are not implying that this man is a "classic new orleanien". I am not from Louisiana, but I do have creole heritage which is from New Orleans. I haven't met anyone from New Orleans that is a ashamed of their creole heritage or the term.

  • This man is crazy and mistaken. My family is creole and know we are predominately black but mixed with other bloods. He is confused. He is scared and crazy. We will never bring understanding if we are not truthful with ourselves. I feel sorry for him.

  • Sooo what are you trying to say by this video???
