  • @theSPREDATOR LOL

  • hi

  • Bow chick woooooooeeee wewwooiw

  • What I found in the ad is an interesting blend of the attraction of a man's aroma and a female's sexual desire. In this commercial, it portrays a woman's sexual desire for a man that was influenced by a man's scent, particularly Axe, whereby a man's desire for the woman was influenced by what she wore that evening. furthermore, in the scene, the women demonstrated the "unexpected" behaviour as she smacked the guy's ass, revealing her inner desires which is normally supressed in public.

  • @sbarre33

good job for pointing that out. I'm actually glad somebody noticed that for once, since it seems to be totally oblivious to most people

  • @sbarre33 TL;DR

  • @sbarre33 lol wut?

  • AHAHAHA "BOM CHIKA WAAAAAAAHWAAAAAAHH!" AHAHAHAHHA

  • @sbarre33 no life

  • @caleb199687 he seems smarter than you are.

  • In this commercial, the woman is depicted as initially desiring someone who would be able to provide for her and her future children. However, the waiter wearing the axe tears her down to her most base sexual desire, so she only desires the waiter. The commercial, in essence, pits the ability to provide against the ability to mate well.

  • My interpretation of the ad is that one guy desires a women who dresses nice and acts responsible where as the other guy who wears AXE desires sexual attention. The idea is that if you wear AXE you will receive sexual attention. The woman going on the date desires an accomplished, well dressed man, however her inner sexual dersires are revealed when the aroma of AXE is worn. Her reaction demonstrates that she desires sexual stiumulation, however, is embarassed after revealing her inner desires.

  • @JCMW90 I think your point is great and that not many of us think of it that way because men are the ones assumed to be laughing and perhaps women outraged (kind of talking about the expected reactions we were talking about in class).

  • I think this clip shows that the desire of women is firstly related to senses ( smell, hearing, sight, touch and taste). The aim of this ad is to show how powerful of a good smell is to be attractive to women. In the common sense, we thought women are more attractive to those men who are wealthy, handsome or intelligent, this ad argues that women in fact are more easily to be attracted biologically, at the first glance or meeting. However, I think this applies to men as well.

  • I think this commerical is also offensive to men. Not all males are driven by being hunted or accosted by a hunger women. I mean this commercial implys that men are just primal creatures looking for a score. Second, I believe men also desire a stable relationship with their partners. not like women depicted in this clip. it assumes men want a women who is not sexually inhibited or able to control herself. The target of this ad is men. Its main goal is to relay to men that all they need is axe..

  • This ad implies that the scent of Axe will overpower a woman’s judgement, creating attraction to a man wearing this fragrance, but more importantly, that this scent will cause the woman to strive away from the norm and bring out her “inner desire”. Therefore according to this ad, women desire men that smell nice, disregarding all other attributes (such as career choice). Similarly, it is suggested that the average man desires the undivided attention of a beautiful woman by simply wearing Axe.

  • part 2: which is an over exaggeration but in general I think men desire women that aren't afraid to grab their ass and be a little promiscuous and woman desire any type of man that smells good, that is all you get from the commercial.

  • I think it's hard to pin point exactly what men desire and what woman desire because everybody desires something different. In this video it shows the beautiful woman meeting a really attractive guy who seems to be well off because hes wearing a suit but she pays more attention to the waiter instead of the hot maybe wealthy guy shes meeting. So maybe the message of this commercial is if spray axe women will desire you based on your smell regardless of who you are.

  • A woman desires the best of both worlds. Which entails success in the workforce and being seen as more than just a pretty face. Howevereven though they want men to look beyond beauty they still want to appreciated for it. Woman still want to be considered attractive and really I think wish to reach a happy medium between intelligence and beauty. However media often represents women in strict confidements as either pretty or smart. They send a message that you can't be both.

  • @noemebree Continued...Women want to change that. Men also desire the best of both worlds. They want to have the beautiful attractive woman on there arm but they also want her to bring something else to the table. However men do not want women to have a role in the relationship which challenges male dominance. The woman that he is with should be beautiful and smart but not more so than he is. She can be successful according to his terms and stay within the boundaries he has constructed.

  • In class we discussed that both men and women seem to desire the unattainable and I feel this ad may channel that for men. We could assume that the woman would not naturally be attracted to the waiter, yet by using AXE, he has been able to grab her attention and obtain the seemingly unattainable. As for what women desire, I would agree with previous comments that spoke of the desired gender role reversal where the woman became the cat-calling, groping stranger that men are typically known for.

  • In terms of this ad, we can say that men desire to be attractive to women, so attractive that women will automatically come to you. Yes, I think it’s like a role reversal to me, too, possibly as a sexual fantasy for some men. Therefore, I don’t think this ad really depicts what women truly desire, as this is just the fantastical way that men want women to behave.

  • Comment removed

  • According to this ad, men desire physically and sexually attractive women, whereas women would choose a man who smells good over a descent and probably wealth man.

  • Women, according to Axe and this commercial, desire one thing: a nice smelling man. Even though the man whom the woman is meeting is handsome, wearing a nice suit, and seems to have a friendly smile (all desirable qualities for a first date), she still can’t control her sexual urge to ass-grab and “bom-chick-wahwah” at the average-joe waiter/bus boy. Just goes to show all you males: you don’t need to make 6 figures, just wear Axe!

  • Men want to feel sexually powerful and dominant over other more attractive, stylish, and successful men due to their “natural” attributes like scent that attract sexy uninhibited women.

  • According to this ad I would argue that it depicts women as wanting to ignore their rationality and follow their sensual instincts. However, this is not just any woman – this is a “sexy woman.” I believe the ad would have a completely different effect on consumers had it been an obese, disabled, elderly, or average looking woman.

  • It's almost as if AXE plays on an idea that women don't even know what they want that is until a man makes it clear for them ("awakens their senses"). I'd say AXE is suggesting that women are 'things' that can be controlled.

  • So the woman, against herself, fondles the man. It is not her fault. Her desire is beyond her, arising instead from the locus of the deodorant being advertised. If we are to take this advertisement as illuminating something about the character of those it is directed towards, then evidently, man does not want woman; man wants machine.

  • What we consider to be our wants, our desires, are but a physiological reaction to something we have already been habituated, either biologically or through agents of socialization (although we can see that the emphasis here is clearly on biology, conjuring up a more literal translation of Foucault’s categorization of the ‘scientia sexualis’, where instead the many intricacies of sexual desire are held to be something scientifically adjustable), to react to.

  • Desire? Desire is not present in the woman herself, but is mediated by this mythic fragrance, which impels the woman towards actions she would not otherwise take. The sidelong glance following the act: she is regretful. She has violated the social code and realizes this, but not why – the reason for her outburst eludes her.

What is being forwarded in this commercial is the idea that we have no desire which originates from ourselves.

  • What is being said here? The application of AXE carries with it the disruption of routine, of the customary practices making up our inert lives. A simple date, structured by routine and an unstated yet rigidly followed code of conduct, is instantly interrupted, thrown into contradiction by the apparition of a waiter who is, on his person, carrying the scent of AXE.

  • With this video it appears that men wish to be desired by women, and in turn women wish to be desired by men.

  • You can see the Dove aspect of promoting woman's self esteem in this. The AXE effect makes woman feel more confident bringing out the inner ego.

  • Clearly women desire any men who are wearing AXE, especially since it has improved its bomchicka wahwah fragrance. Nevermind that this beautiful woman is about to meet an attractive man in a romantic restaurant, just a whif of this fragrance has this woman spinning to grab the waiter. Not that he minds. It appears that men desire promiscuous women, especially when they are sexually hit on by beautiful women (wouldn't this constitute sexual harrasment?) Apparently not.

  • Axe is made to appear so powerful that it drives women into a trance-like state, thereby crossing situational and even 'class' boundaries; the waiter is meant to remain professional in his workplace, and it may or may not be socially acceptable for him to engage in any type of relationship with the woman/customer. Axe, appears to be able to provide the bridge into successful relationships.

  • In this video it appears that what men desire is for women to really want them and express this want openly. As for women, it appears that what they desire is to be noticed and to have a man in their life. The woman is wearing a nice dress and has put effort into her appearance and appers pleased that there is a man waiting for her at the table. I suppose one can say that what they both want is very similar. They both want to be noticed and desired by members of the opposite sex.

  • I feel like maybe this commercial could actually be marketing AXE towards women too. I would possibly be interested in buying this product for my guy because the commercial depicts a woman who has lost all her inhibitions due to the man's irristibility. Women are often inhibited due to their desire to be adhere to the gender role assigned to them by society, but this commercial shows a woman who is uninhibited (same thing as women who get drunk so they can act how they wish they acted sober). :)

  • @ES344 I'm not so sure I agree with you there. Search the following vid on youtube: (it's not letting me post the link) GUCCI GUILTY -- OFFICIAL COMMERCIAL.mp4

Although it's not as comically presented as the Axe commercial, isn't it basically saying the same thing? That wearing this "guilty" perfume can lead you to (taking a leap here) promiscuous?

  • Therefore, AXE body spray could not increase a woman’s desirability or attractiveness in the same way it does for the waiter in the commercial.

  • @ES344 or perhaps then AXE would have the woman enjoy the sexual attention--but if they had done it this way they would have surely had major problems on their hands for promoting sexual assault or something.

  • @LOLYOURMOM • What I meant to say is that if AXE body spray was being marketed towards women, and the commercial featured an attractive man making a similar move on a less attractive female, it wouldn’t work for various reasons. One of them being, that our culture seems to say that physical beauty is a trait men admire in a partner much more than women.

  • @ES344 How would it be different? The gender roles seem to be reversed to me. It seems to be the woman taking on masculinities, and not for the sake of being attractive to men (in the context of the commercial) but for the sake of being alpha (fe)male. Then moving to the context of the commercial, the masculinities she presents are for the sake of attracting men (ironic). I guess if the roles were reversed it would be more of a Sexual Assault case than a commercial. Maybe.

  • Furthermore, this commercial seems only to reflect the idea in our culture that physical beauty in men is not among the top traits that women desire. It’s safe to say that this commercial would be a lot different if the gender roles were reversed.

  • It was noted in class that Dove also owns AXE which is unusual since this commercial seems to contradict the main message of their “real beauty” campaign. While Dove claims to want to improve women’s self esteem, the main actress in this ad is certainly not the type of “real woman” they supposedly celebrate. From a physical perspective, she meets the criteria of what today’s celebrity culture deems as desirable to men perfectly—she’s slim, pretty, and stylish.

  • Towards the end, it seems as if the gender roles on the reverse. Even though the woman’s action got a lot of attention, it wasn’t the kind of attention she was originally striving for.

  • As shown in this ad, we can see that both men and women desire to be noticed. The lady dresses up as the stereotypical feminine image seeking for attention. On the other hand, both the man in the suit and the waiter who wore axe (I guess these can both be signs of masculinity) desire to be admire as well. Both men and women in the same ways present themselves as the mainstream ideals in hopes of attracting the opposite sex.

  • @schmetterling190 or maybe women desire men that wear axe ;)

  • The target of this ad is obviously men. So to say what women desire is difficult based on the video alone. If the ad is in any way representative of what women and men desire then I would say that women desire men and men desire women's desire. Since this is an ad for men I would say that this suggest that men want women to desire them, but what women desire is a mystery... :P

  • I think this video is characterizing what men EXPECT women to desire.. It seems like kind of a role reversal to me.. Perhaps better put as a sexual fantasy for some men to be subjected to sexual passes as women often are.

  • Just from this video I would say that women want to follow their instincts and men want to be desired.

  • What does a man desire? What does a woman desire?

  • @DrMVUA From this video, it seems that the classical physical attraction that women have to men is substituted with the notion that attraction lies in scent. The woman in the video was so close to meeting her date, yet a stranger, who possessed the Axe scent, was able to indirectly catch her attention while simultaneously changing her behavior. She went from abiding by normality to instantly crossing the boundary of appropriateness by groping a complete stranger. In reaction to this, the waiter

  • Respond to this video... smiled, and because of this, it would seem that men desire women who cross the boundary of appropriateness, or rather, cross the boundary of normal social interaction in favor of a more 'promiscuous' interaction. Ultimately, it would seem that Axe facilitates the crossing of the normal boundary.
