hey dude nice playing. I just got myself a john mayer strat and also a hand-wired vibroverb custom amp with the diaz mods. AND WOW! I've never owned a fender amp before, and the tone is freaky amazingly sweet! Great tones you have here aswell. keep rockin! I'll stick up a vibroverb / mayer strat video soon. :-)
Awesome tone and playing! Is the finish of that strat really white or more yellow'ish?
I'm asking because I have a strat with more of a really light yellow finish (I think it's olympic white) and I want to add a mint green pickguard like you. I don't really know how it would look with that particular finish.
love this song...Claptons unplugged album is kick ass. The tone sounds good on the lead, other than a few rythm problems on the lead part, it sound hot man.
Is the tone anything to do with the big dipper pick ups in the JM strat by any chance, don't they like scoop mids or something? i'm just curious, what do you think?
what difference you note with the change of tube? more bright? less bass? I hear my FDR a little dark, yours look more brightness (well, maybe the strat, i use an ash telecaster). With my LP sounds horrible.
I saw your other video too with your blues deluxe. I have the chance to trade my blues deluxe for a deluxe reverb. Which one do you prefer or think is the better amp ?
i think a significant reason why the tone came out so good was because the only thing between my guitar and amp was a decent 6 ft cable. don't dismiss that fact as something negligible. the difference is noticeable when u compare with a 25 ft cable.
@JujuSteady bull, only high end loss is noticeable with longer cables and sometimes wanted. SRV for this reason used extra long cables so he got rid of the piercing highs, yet his tone was massive.
pretty badass man - thanks for giving a pure demo of the amp. WAY better than the blues deluxe. Couple questions: How loud can you get the deluxe reverb before it starts to break up? If you wanted a really clean sound would you be sacrificing voume?
as far as the knobs are concerned, i think it starts to break up at around 4. it's loud enough for the home. if you're in a band, you might want to look for something a bit louder.
hey i have that same preamp. and i was wondering how u ran it thru your deluxe reverb. i have a 65 super reverb and have not used the preamp with it yet.. if u dont mind please explain to me how u run it with this amp
Outstanding tone. Can I ask what setting are on your amp and if you're using any boxes? I sent you a separate question for the same on your Blues deluxe I also have both and just bought a Fender VM combo after seeing a the NAMM 09. Thanks GREAT TONE you have.
no boxes. that's why i think it sounded so good. new strings and only a short cable between gtr and amp.... i don't remember what the settings were but i usually leave treble at 7.5 and bass at 4.5.
great sound man, totally diferent to all videos with DRR, i got the same amp.exept i play with Eric johson strat, wich exactly JJ tubes are those, please let me know...nice playing thoo.
the amp only has 22 watts or so. If I remember right, the volume was set at about 4-5. i would consider it a great home amp because... well, fully cranked it IS loud but not nearly as loud as other amps.
plus, remember that this amp has JJ tubes in it. Only about $40 for a pair. Well worth it! The tubes don't make a subtle difference... they make a BIG difference.
Your tone is really great! Is the SM57 in the photos how you miced the amp for this recording? It looks like you put the mic almost parallel to the amp. It sounds great, and if that's how you did it I might have to try it!
As I'm sure you are well aware, it was co-written by Robert Cray; lest we forget to pay "homage" (said with french accent). Traveled some 4hrs to see him (R.C.) on Fri. . So had to pay respect in light of that fact with a gentle plug .... not that he needs it. Nice cover!!!
hey, what jj tubes did you get???

for songs such as this and slow dancing in a burning room would this or the twin reverb be a better choice for me? thanks
Timb0tr0n 2 years ago
the twin reverb is much cleaner, so it really depends on your preference. And budget (the twin reverb is around $200 - $400 more than the deluxe)

pretty simple. guitar hardware is in the more info.
recording gear was: sm57 mic, cheap mic preamp, delta 44 audio interface (PC). For software, i used Audacity/Cool Edit.
