Actually the Chevy Volt is an Opel Ampera. GM just pulled the project from Opel and gave it to chevy when it was almost completed. The only thing chevy really did was to change the way it looks.

GM owns the majority of Opel shares which allows them to "take" whatever they want, but other than that, you are absolutely right.

The same goes for Chrysler, their only successful car in the past 5 years (the 300c) was designed by Daimler Benz which is pretty sad.

I think the US will copy the European auto-industry in the future( as they are already doing ). All important innovations of the past 20-30 years(Airbags, ABS, ESP etc) were made by either European or Japanese companies.

But really think about it.. if they in the US would start copiing eu, or jap cars, what will happen with your ~100year tradition of building enormeous sized-cars? As I mentioned earlier, you guys in the US said, that the VW Passat isn't big enough.. well, here in EU, its really far enough for 5 passangers+ 500litre of baggage.. :) But all in all, you have to get used to smaller sized cars, if you whant lover fuel usage... :S

Ecotec engines were developed by Opel, The new Car of The year winning Insignia was a 100% Opel concept + Opel has the biggest research center in europe, so I belive GM was the one, who stole everything from Opel, and sold it as theyr own in the past, and nowadays too...
