I love how agile they are. My ex-girlfriend had tons around her property. On summer nights they would fly as close to you as they could without hitting you. It seems like it's some sort of game for them.

I started flailing my arms, to scare it, and screaming (of course) and I touched it in mid air and it flew off. I quickly went inside and washed my hands. I may never go out after dark again. Thanks for the video -- I got to scream some more when it flew at the carmera :)
@cocotan6 Thanks. I'm happy with the way the video turned out. The bat deserves credit for doing so well flying around our dining room and not infecting me with any sort of deadly virus.
@cocotan6 Food for thought: mosquitoes were flying around you, and the bat was hungry. Next time, just let it eat your blood-suckers for you. ;) The bat was behaving in a healthy way, and they're passive toward humans.

If it makes you feel any better, I once had about a thousand flying around me, and none of them accidentally flew into my hair. ;) But yeah, the small ones can detect objects thinner than a human hair. It's really incredible!
Instead of swatting and potentially injuring your pest control (they're built like glass), just get the container first next time, and walk the contents outside. A healthy bat will just fly off. At least you used something soft to fend it off though. Others have used solid objects and acted like they just took down a bear. You two seemed delighted to have the bat visit.

He never hurt the animal, nor was anyone ever trying to kill the bat. I'm with him - I don't want it in my home either. You can't get rabies by TOUGHING a bat, it is carried in the blood and saliva. Also, less than 1% actually have rabies.
