I like that tuning and composition very much. I've been playing a long time and recently purchased a cheapo lap. Could you possibly break that tuning down for me? thanks
Fred, I am having a custom lap steel built and I just LOVE the sound of the Charlie Christians. Thing is I can only put one pick up in my custom design. Is the Charlie gonna cut it? Obviously I want that wide tonal range and sustain that just goes on and on.
I love the neck position sound of the CC and the combination of the two on this guitar. I personally think only a bridge CC sounds a bit trebly, but that is my personal taste - I like warm neck pickup sound a lot.
Yeah it sounds SO sweet on your set up. I ended up buying the Supro by Lollar. Jason Lollar said it would be perfect for my set up. Love the sound you're getting here tho.
I had a 1941 National New Yorker with the "string-through" pickup the Lollar Supro is based on. It was an amazing pickup and I'm sure Lollar's version is absolutely top notch!
Yeah I think I saw your vid a couple of years ago on the New Yorker. It was the first of it's kind I'd ever seen or heard. Along with the Rickenbaker Bakelite, the New Yorker is pretty much the most distinctive lap steel I've ever heard. Crazy warm and so much character. How did u feel about it? Was it versatile enough? How did you come to part with such a beauty?
The warmest sounding New Yorker is the 1930s one with three pickups (2 under the fretboard). Still got that one. :-) It is not the most versatile steel but it sounds amazing in its very own way.
:-) It's normally straighter, but when I am exploring something new I seem to lean closer to the guitar (I did not notice it until I watched the video ;-). Thanks for the kind words, Maikel and everyone else.
I like the 9th tonality and the sound you are getting from the steel. Has a nice more open feeling. Not as dark sounding as some of your minor 3rd based stuff.

Fred,
I suggest you to get your back more straight.
I get some back bone problems and as you "curve" when you playing is very very bad.
Some back problems can smash you face one day, without warning.
Otherwise, nice playing...as usual. ;-)

Sounds promising. Definitely "brighter" sounding than your "normal" stuff. I would say definitely a path to walk down for a while..

Härligt dysterkvistigt! Juste ljud på lapen och mysigt klingande stämning.

Very nice. I know nothing about lap steel playing or tuning, but your sound is very satisfying to listen to.
