THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH for sharing this! This is just raw and I love it! She is just.....ah I don´t have words. I hope I meet her one day in my life insh´Allah! Just watching a vid of her is a lesson for a lifetime...I wonder what it´d be like in real? Does she have a school or anything? Does anyne know?
And as you also said, someting is lost in a scenary. These scenes where you can see the dancer, singer and player on its own, interrupting, comming together again trying things and communicating has something pure and spontaneous which is basic to this kind of cultural expression, I think. Pues ahora yo también...he dicho. Saludos!
It is, I think, beyond the mere exactitude of compas. I am neither Spanish nor a Gypsy, so it would be ridiculous and unnatural for me to say Ole at those moments, but I like when the 'performance' draws out my involuntary vocal response, which is usually an ecstatic kind of groan- but from an ecstacy which is emotional rather than sexual or religious...and which often is both as much from pain as it is from pleasure. Okay, now I'm done.
It is like hanging on the edge of one's seat, waiting for that certain sound or run of sounds (be it from a voice, an instrument, or the strike of a foot, etc...) to punch you in your gut and reverberate in your soul.
Bratske - I agree. There is definate tendency towards something being lost in the staging of a performance. I feel that the sense of communal intimacy just does not come across when the audience is too large. Also, the aspect of spontinaeity is, in my opinion, the singlemost integral component which makes Flamenco so wonderful. The unexpected (yet always intensely anticipated and awaited) breaking through of emotional force, that is the key factor which attracts me to this art.

Well, I am spanish (though I am not a Gypsy), but I couldn`t have describe it better than you!
This is really the feeling that flamenco transmits when it has "duende". It`s a kind of emotion than comes from deep inside.
