"Black and Blue" is sort of an under appreciated gem; much stronger album than people would assume, given its relative obscurity. That Dual seems to have aged gracefully as well.
LOVED that turntable--everything from the noises it made when cycling to the soothing hum of the idler-drive motor. Coolest of all was the sound it made after the tonearm settled into the groove and the circuit turned on and vice versa. Every single time I watch a movie or listen to a record, I hear that thu-THUN in my mind. Too bad it bit the dust way back in 1985; the last record ever played on it was the 2nd side of "Tommy Boy Greatest Beats." Yours seems to be in excellent condition. Peace.
Okay first off I've got to know what kind of cartridge that is. Of course speakers and receiver/amp/turntable make a difference as well. But regardless I'd love to know what kind of cartridge that is. It sounds so balanced across the whole spectrum. Thanks.
I think they were more creative , resourceful , veratile and original.
I always get the feeling that the Stones are playing the same kind music and songs over and over for 30 yearsand that they don't really evolve but I deeply respect them .
Nice Dual. After seeing your video, I pulled out my old copy of Black and Blue and gave it a spin. i forgot how listenable this LP is, probably their most underrated record. Thanks for the post
But it does ..The stones did very little harmonizing in my view ..Singing harmony is an art , something that takes really years of practise to be really good ..The Stones just grabbed their guitars and let rip .I'm amazed they all even sang the same words
Well they weren't the Everly Brothers, but I don't see the point. The Stones harmonizing was ragged in a good way. Ragged was a big part of their sound. Personally, I love Keith Richard's background vocal in Brown Sugar, and also things like Wild Horses, Dead Flowers and Ruby Tuesday. I know a lot of people miss KR's harmonizing, since his voice has changed and he's stopped doing them.
Maybe I'm used to a sweeter sound ..The Stones always sounded to me like they were sitting jamming at home ..even on record .. There is a place for them of course .. at least they were real , could play, and what you see was what you got .. I mean , The last time , Satisfaction, etc.. classics..
I daresay that when the Stones do country, they do it extremely well. Songs like Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, You Got The Silver, Dead Flowers, Dear Doctor, Far Away Eyes, those are classics, songs that would be among the best country music. Rock and roll isn't supposed to be overly polished (nor is country or blues, in my opinion). It's called roots music for a reason. It has dirt on it.
Nice! I have a completely refurbished Dual 1215. Your table sounds great. Also, Black and Blue is an under appreciated Stones' album. great video, analogone.
The Stones attempt some fairly inept cod reggae. Black and Blue is one of their lesser albums and this is Keef's affectionate tribute to jamaican music. Sounds too much like UB40 to be taken too seriously. lol
I can't get this song out of my head. I have been singing it for two weeks and people are begginning to think I am crazy. I am. Thanks for the great eric donaldson cover. Well done stones.
...have the same Dual. White, with the original dustcover. Had to restore it, now a phantastic player.

@MrCoolManTim Wrong, it's a Realistic R1000 which is basically a rebadged Shure M75. Read the description next time!

Nice needledrop, man. Usually turntable demo videos sound like crap (or have NO audio at all), but you put the effort into this one. Great song.
I got out-bid on a TD-160 and ended up "settling" on a Dual 1019 (in excellent shape for $150), but I don't regret it one bit. Awesome table.

I don't remember what my turntable was but that sure does look like something out of 1976 for me.

I often wonder if the Stones ever knew how to harmonise at all . Every song of theirs I've ever heard , has them all singing the same thing

Singing the same thing? I don't get it. Wild Horses, which has some harmonizing on it, sounds nothing like this.
