I am SOOO bummed that Open Pick isn't on the new album. That is an amazing song. I'm guess it just doesn't fit in with the In Rainbows particular batch of songs. Kind of like the songs in Amnesiac/Kid A that didn't work on one CD, so they threw it on the other.

i was flipping shit when i heard about the new album last night. i still cant believe it. i mean, just announcing the date of release would get my heart racing, but they announced absolutely EVERYTHING at once, and that it would be out in a week and a half's time!

here are my plans for the 10th: skip school, download, lock myself in my room with nothing but soft foods and water, and play it at full blast with my best headphones for 24 hours.

There were plenty of great songs on it, but as a whole I just thought that it was hard to listen to and not interesting enough for me after 4 or 5 songs in a row. i understand your sentiment in regards to httt, because i myself had a similar experience with kid a (loved a few songs, but couldn't appreciate the whole thing as an album). but i kept coming back to it, and surely, with a few more spins i was richly rewarded. i dunno, maybe keep trying listening to httt now and then to see if it grows on you.

anyway, i hope you like LP7 when it's finally released; i'm sure we all have extremely high expectations for it.

Personally, HTTT is my least favorite album by Radiohead. There are some downright amazing songs on it, but altogether as a whole I find it hard to listen to. I just find it incredibly dry. For me, it just doesn't have the same level of originality and uniqueness that Kid A and Amnesiac had, but then again Amnesiac is my favorite album by them so I have pretty strange tastes.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you. but think about the fact that the previous 3 albums were a lot shorter. its harder to keep an atmosphere through more than an hour of music. I think it has three different moods throughout. also the songs were long road-tested before they ever saw a studio. unlike the other albums. they played "I Will" during OK Computer tours for sound checks. If you've seen Meeting People Is Easy then you know what I'm talking about.

I don't think it's an issue of length. Afterall, OK Computer probably has the most atmosphere of any album, and it's only a couple of minutes shorter than HTTT. I think HTTT has less atmosphere because Kid A and Amnesiac mixed great songs with quite ambient tracks (treefingers, kid a, hunting bears, etc). Whereas HTTT mixed great songs (There there, Where I end and you begin), with songs that weren't amient so much as just more like B-sides (the gloaming, punch up at wedding)

B-Sides? Gloaming is far and away one of the most legitimately RADIOHEAD caliber things on the album. I'd put it above Where I end and you begin as a work.
