@xXxBlueNomaxXx of course not. rooting and jailbreaking is different. rooting is real hacking, but you cant compare it to jailbreaking which is much shallower and just tweaking of the UI.

If anyone has their screen quit.. i fixed my sons.. the ribbon for the touch screen had come loose from the lil pcb.. it was very tight stretch anyways.. looks like a bad design they should of put some kind of bend in the cable to give some play.. i stuck it back in and it works now

Hi, I'm a Mac owner of the Craig CMP738a.

I WAS able to upgrade the unit to Foyo by downloading the file from Craig's website just fine, but I really would like to get it rooted and running optimally.

Does anyone know of a ROM mod that CAN be launched from a micro SD, given that the current two mods by Shad and Flush seem dependent on 'rktools.zip' which is Windows only?

@yrag0001 - some people say you can do the same with the official firmware by putting it on microSD and then running it.. i have not tried this so i cannot confirm.. the one my son had died so i gotta get him a new one.. the touch screen no longer works.. it will boot but you cant control anything..

@BlueRidgeRuckus Yeah, that what I meant when I wrote "I WAS able to upgrade the unit to Froyo by downloading the file from Craig's website". That worked—no problem. I am now running Froyo. It just that the ROM mods by Shad and Flush DO require the Craig tablet connected to a PC using Windows to do their upgrade and root.

If you guys are still having trouble.. please make sure you are installing the drivers correctly.. in the video i had already installed the drivers.. however i did state that in the video and show you what you need to do.. there are tutorials on the web that give each step by step.. google is your friend :)

So I looked at the setting file in the same folder as the RKAndroidBatchUpgrader and the problem is that there is a line that has to be changed from "SUPPORTUSB11=0" to "SUPPORTUSB11=1". It fixed the problem for me, maybe it can do the same for you guys.

Thanks for the Video. I have attempted to install the upgrade into a never used Craig with a 2.1 OS, I got as far as getting to the upgrade window and have the green light in the first box of row 1. However, I cannot load Shads CMP-738a-update-2011-03-15-rls­4.3.img from my folder. I get the following error message. "Getting Information of Boot file's head failed". Don't know where to go from here after many attempts. Please advise.

This is UNNECESSARY...Just rename the IMG file to 'update.img', copy it to a MicroSD card, then unmount and mount the card. It'll start automatically.

First.. turn off your tablet.. then hook your the usb cable to your computer but NOT the tablet.. then with your left hand hold Power and Home buttons.. then with your right hand.. plug in theusb cable to the tablet.. your windows will look for the driver.. direct it to the corresponding windows version driver folder.. then continue with the flash utillity.. this must be done first.. good luck

I mostly just use the marketplace since my son plays with this more then me.. there are a lot of virus and potentially damaging software out there.. your best bet would be to checkout a GOOD online forum.. most of those guys know where to look and where to stay away from.. good luck..

I have a question. I'm new to tablets but not with computers. I already do some technical work with them so I don't think I'd have any problems. I'm still not sure why I would need to root my tablet ,especially since Craig just put Android 2.2 on their web site. Is the version you're rooting to a lot better? Because you read about problems on other forums about people having some problems or losing some functionality. Is it all about being able to use the Android Market?

@Banger10 - When i did this craig had just put out they were going to release 2.2.. but it was in the works.. the main reason i did it was the firmware that was on it when we bought it didnt include the android marketplace and it was very buggy.. with the newer firmware it fixed a bunch of issues and we can now use the marketplace.. i hope with further improvements in the official firmware will alleviate the need to use these other firmwares..

@ndrdd23 - sounds like you still need to install the drivers.. it has to show up green before you can even try to update the firmware.. flip the switch to off and make sure the tablet is off.. then you need to hold both home and power then plug up your usb cable to your computer and tablet.. it will ask for drivers.. direct it to the folder that corresponds with your version of widows.. thats the first thing u need to do

@ndrdd23 - what do you mean by locked? its in a zip file you have to unzip of course if thats what you mean? with updating the firmware i have not had any lockups and it seems to run faster now.. everything i threw at it worked ok for what we use it for.

@ndrdd23 - its the same for all windows.. no different.. first thing you need to do is install the drivers and in order for windows to recognize it you have to hold power and home button at the same time then plug in the usb cable.. once you do that windows will look for drivers.. then after that follow every step.. thats it..

@christslilgrl89 - Ok.. make sure you are following this step.. have the usb cable hooked to your pc but not your craig tablet.. then make sure your tablet is turned off.. then get the flash utility running on your computer and the firmware you want to install loaded.. then hold down power and home button with your left hand.. then plug in your usb cable to the tablet with your right hand.. if u do this correctly the program should come up and show your craig tablet is ready to flash.. try it

He loves playing with my HTC EVO and loves reading books so I figure this would be a good way to go. The other option I was considering was the Coby Kryos MID7015. Have you ever used that basic android tablet and if so, how do the two devices compare to each other with respect to speed and respnsiveness? Thanks,

@simaguirre - i havent used a coby before but i did see it reviewed and info on rooting it.. i think tipster said the craig is faster. but since i haven't used one i cannot be certain.. best thing is to post on a forum... my son likes playing with my droid phone so going to this he likes it alot..
