  • Every country had it's area of expertise, Germany was renown for fine engineering, England for some damn fine craftsman, Australia for making almost anything out of a piece of wire and an empty petrol drum, America for just making things bigger than anywhere else. Now, the world economy has screwed all that, we're all reduced to mediocrity, all drive the same car with a different name badge on it, all watch TV's made in some Asian factory which pays $1.50 a day wages if your lucky. Crying shame.

  • @xXpollypocket1994Xx Nah, that's just Edinburgh, not the Brits. Some good tram systems down south.

  • i had a morris ital for 5 years never let me down

exept the severe clutch judder in reverse

    synchromesh on 2nd gear

    constantly seizing steering trunions

4 th gear would not engage (final death nail)

  • klasyczny brytyjski lok 5!

  • funny engine that deltic

  • @TheMustangFighter shame now the germans engineer and perfect rolls royce :)

  • I wouldnt like to kick start one of these....

  • The Deltic sounds more like a supercharged hot rod than a diesel locomotive.

  • just for the record 55022 is heading spitfire railtours kings cross edinburgh return 05/03/11

  • This locomotive use a 2-cicle diesel engine?

  • @6380BAN Yes. Certainly not the only 2-stroke diesel; mechanically scavenged. The Deltic is an opposed-piston engine, kinda like the Fairbanks-Morse. The F-M has two cranks with one cylinder block in-between, but the Deltic has three cranks and three cylinder blocks.

And, there's a "baby Deltic." DAGS "deltic diesel" and "delta" as in greek letter.

  • @woodscritter Wow, thanks for writing, I'm very, very happy.

And... sorry, my english is baaad, eh

  • What a noise. No other locomotive, anywhere in the world, sounds like it.

  • This is V10 engine?

  • @wdowa94 Try 18 cylinders mate! and thats two engines and the cylinders aren't in a V

  • @wdowa94 opposed piston two stroke diesel, try googling "napier deltic engine", very interesting engine!

  • loved the way the old bag shit herself when it started giving it some revs.....wouldnt like to see her gusset.

  • Now that's what I call a proper startup. None of this chugging shit you get with a 37. A little bit of windup noise and then the magnificent thrum of Napier's finest coming to life.

  • I can remember the "Deltic Scotsman" waiting to take off from here with Deltic 55 022 in charge.I am very sure on that Day not one of the thousands of fans, had any notion that 022 would return with express Trains two decades later.

  • clag monstar

  • Mustang, forget the enginineering, although I agree with you sentiments, listen to her voice................

  • nice to see 22 firing up thanks!!!

  • bluebus270 wnat to get his facts right about the Lighting and the Starfigher, there vastly difrent aircraft ! and mabe take a look at the Vulcan and Victor which were both years ahead of anything the US had flying in service, the 747 didt become the true sucsess it is untill the RB211 was fitted, on OH supprise the Trent (roll out engine for A380) is from the UK as well (and Trent 1000 on severy US aircraft) and the gas turbin wasert stolen, it was concived by several engneers at the same time.

  • me thinks bluebus 270 would do well to go and live in the u.s of a. he as something in common with them .......he expells lots of hot air and actually knows very little !!!!!

  • cars .......e-type jag, aston db5,mini cooper s,austin healey 3000,need i go on !!!! i suspect you are seduced by american propaganda and self loving ways !!!!!

  • the jet was an english ivention, sir frank whittle 1915 when 1st. conceived. the lightning is a completely different plane...and far superior to the crap starfighter !!!!! cock

  • We British are known throughout the world as being a joke when it comes to 20th century engineering. Take the Morris Ital for instance. But once in a while we build something that is truly outstanding and a masterpiece of engineering beauty. The Deltic is one of them.

  • Oh I dunno. HST, Concorde (admittedly in collaboration with France), the jet engine, the lightning fighter, the spitfire, the lancaster bomber, the vulcan, the challenger tank (both 1 and 2) just for starters

  • The jet engine was a german invention, stolen by Frank Whittle, and the Lightening was a cheap copy of the Lockheed Starfighter. You're right about the Spitfire though.

  • @bluebus270 ... along with the Rover P4, the mighty Land Rover and the humble Mini - before BL sent it all to the worms, that is !

  • @bluebus270 i'm American and even i have to concede that the Deltic was one of the best ones ever designed.

  • @bluebus270 & the English Electric Lightning, of course!

  • @bluebus270 Concorde, the High Speed Train, the E-type Jaguar, McLaren F1 - any other jokes you can think of?

  • @bluebus270 No-one's heard of the "Ital". What are you talking about?

  • @thepublandlord1 The British Leyland (Morris) Ital took over where the Marina left off. I would have thought everyone knows that. Maybe you're just a young 'un though. Here's another great example of British engineering - the council in Edinburgh are pulling the plug on the trams there as they can't even lay 1 mile of track without it falling to bits. So, 400 million quid later they've given up. The Victorians could do it, but we can't in 2011. What a joke we are nowadays.

  • @bluebus270

I had a Morris Ital. I loved the engine. Basically the same as the Morris Minor - easy to repair. Try it on a modern car.

  • @bluebus270 Wrong. Spitfire, English Electric Lightning, Mauretania, Queen Mary, Mallard, Flying Scotsman, etc., etc., etc. Africans could certainly be regarded as a joke when it comes to 20th century engineering, us, never. Take your anti British propaganda elsewhere.

  • @stepheng1483

Take your illusion elsewhere, these example of yours are about to get 100 years old, today these islands are a hole in the ground. All because of this expanding so-called welfare state.

  • @bluebus270 The Spitfire and the Harrier are also great examples of British know-how.

  • I have to say that while I love the look of the deltic the sound off them is quite boring compared to a 37

  • Hopefully the number of mainline certified Deltics is going to grow in the next couple of years. Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry or KOYLI as it is known is being restored to full working order at the NRM. Deltic 22 is currently sick again, with only 1 good engine, but still runs on the mainline, and was in Leeds last weekend at Neville Hill Traincare depot open day

  • great video mate 5stars and fav

  • My grandad told me a story that he was near a deltic, starting up and the exhaust grill lifted up of the roof! due to the power of the fumes pluming out of it...

  • Reminds me of KX loco sidings: when a Deltic would start up to come off the stabling point, better stand well clear! They sound superb, makes your bones vibrate. but wat about the bitta wheel.

  • The best thing was both engines on the buffers at the Cross.....it was great to see women and kids crap themselves when they were nearby 8-) Sorry if that sounded sadistic.

  • is it true there is one or more deltics owned by a private railway company that could be used on the main line ?

  • yeah just the 1 its with a freight company now

  • thank for the info . you would'nt happen to know whcih one ? they all had names did'nt they ( forgive me being irish i am only new to learing about english locomotives)

i like the look of the finsbury park deltics that had the top painted white .

  • p.s i see this is flimed by a lady . nice to know i am not the only female transport nut out there ;-)

  • 55016s is the one with the frieght company now, its with DRS, and called Gordon Highlander ;)

  • lets hope when DRS finish with it they put it back into preservation . thanks for the information !

  • Nah, its going mainline like this one, but kept at a preservation railway

  • Do a search gor "The Napier Chronicles" - excellent Deltic photos and gen.

  • there are a few of them main line certified, the best known one of them is 55022,

  • @neil87008 and now its on the ELR

  • hellllllllllllfirrrrreeeeeeee deltic

  • amo le ferrovie il motore tipo deltic è un capolavoro di meccanica

  • Reminds me of KX loco sidings: when a Deltic would start up to come off the stabling point, better stand well clear! They sound superb, makes your bones vibrate.

  • That front, so IN YOUR FACE evil!

  • 9,730 views neil fucking hell.

did the bitta wheel slip when it started up?

    great sound, first class.

  • sound of a 2 stroke 18 banger
