yeah, concerning the exhaust note, the way he grabs that gear coming out of the corner @ 1:02 is awesome, and then before that @ 0:57 he's going down that short chute and grabs the next gear & goes into the left-hander flat out, sounds/looks so great.
Can you listen how in the corners the sound up and down much more than others cars. Thats because senna used the break up and down much more than others. Thats what specialists have realized looking the charts.

@HollywoodWags in actuality the MP4/4 was running a 1.5L 6cyl turbos back in 88 and they sounded great. this MP4/6 was running a V12. i don't think the distinctive F1 howl will not be lost when they switch to 1.6L 6cyl turbos for 2014.
@ZeZeBatata69 Ayrton Senna may be the best driver of all time, but your comparisons are stupid. Track layout and regulations change, and Vettel did it in 1min47s263 in 2009 anyway
@ZeZeBatata69 different track layout at the bus stop. And the cars have been consistently slowed since '94. Still great footage, though. The sound's incredible.
@SennaHamilton4ever .. for sure those cars were too inferior in chassis comparing with cars today. If it wasnt the truth, f1 cars would keep the front of the cars. Actually, after that Benneton (the shark) and Tyrrel, the first cars to really change the front of the cars, every team started to change that too. Today, EVERY car use that king of front. Senna, unfortunatly, never drove a car with these king of chassis.
I can imagine a little kid standing on the sideline @ 1:29. He must of been like " daddy that sounded cool" (when that crappy car went by), and when Senna went past the kid would probably say "oh wait a second *senna goes past*, HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm no senna hater or something just noticed that...
You're right, this is not the pole lap. But the time he tries to beat in this lap is his own. And this was the pole time at the end of the session : 1:47.811
@F1WRL yeah, but the time of 1:41.811 is a time of his own. He was trying to beat his own time... and at the end of the section he was on pole with this time.

man love it how fast that guy can change gear... hear the sound, and compare it with the clutch sound of a nowadays flippergear shifter... almost the same speed!
This cars had to be driven from true men.Nowadays some kids with some experience from some playstations or simulators can drive these toy cars...:( Miss this times so much...true F1 has gone forever.
Indeed! What a margin!Senna was something different from other drivers! His performance was otherworldy..it scares me watching him driving to the limit...He makes all the others look like amateurs
Absolutely unbelievable....because he was only 0.029 sec up at Stavelot, so he made up a second through Blanchimont, a dust cloud, Bus Stop and the run down to La Source!!!
I love the blip-blip-blip on the throttle that Senna uses through corners...He used this technique to keep up the turbo boost in the early days, but it was also very effective in a normally aspirated car.
@willski1221 You are right, but check a comparison between Senna/1991 and Schumacher/2000 (the years may be wrong, but I'm almost sure) laps in Monza. 10 years of technology advance, yet Senna makes most corners ahead of Schumacher, and in the end the lap times are basicaly the same. Now, that is ridiculous.
t00 bad I never watched him race live or on tv. But at least I can say I saw some greats like Schumi, mika not J. vill or alonso, their heads seem to have grown bigger ever since they were crown world champ
That's the problem lol. Kimi is very talented, but Senna was from another planet. There is no comparison. What happened to Kimi in 08 never happened to Senna during his career. He never had to watch a teammate compete for a championship. He was ALWAYS ahead of every teammate he has ever had, except when he and Prost teamed together, and there was little between the two. Kimi is not even in the same league with these guys.
True but I watched Montoya during the CART days (before the downfall of American open wheel). He showed the potential there. Its just life, he did well in F1 and he's an awesome driver. I really hoped Juan would beat Kimi at Mclaren but I'm a fan of both.
To all those who wonder why, I LOVED Ayrton, consider this. He lost time in two pivital sections of the Spa track, navagating traffic at Eau Rouge, and the Bus Stop chicane, and still was 1.065 seconds a lap quicker then the previous pole time!! Traffic ruined his lap? NO! Maybe Lewis Hamilton et al should sit up and take notice. Senna was a legend. FACT
This is what f1 cars need to look like a sound like. They should implement all the latest safety that is used today but in terms of car design and engines you cant beat the cars of this era. They sure were a sight to see and unbelieable sounds of the engines.
He overtook 4 cars in his fastest lap, there was dust in the track before the bus-stop - he couldn´t see nothing ahead, n even thus he got the pole! MAGIC SENNA!!!!

Yes honda and cosworth have always make the best sounds for formula 1 :D . Honda I wish they still in formula 1 .

Traffic at Raidillon and in the straight after Stavelot, and dust right after Blanchimont, yet he gets pole by over a second?
Just ridiculous

Indeed! What a margin!Senna was something different from other drivers! His performance was otherworldy..it scares me watching him driving to the limit...He makes all the others look like amateurs
athensbroadsword 2 years ago 4
Absolutely unbelievable....because he was only 0.029 sec up at Stavelot, so he made up a second through Blanchimont, a dust cloud, Bus Stop and the run down to La Source!!!
I love the blip-blip-blip on the throttle that Senna uses through corners...He used this technique to keep up the turbo boost in the early days, but it was also very effective in a normally aspirated car.

@gateontheroom No... No, sorry... God can not... For Senna was a living god and god has always been just god.

What I want to know more than anything is how he could have driven through that dust cloud at 1:34 at full throttle. Just total focus, wow.

t00 bad I never watched him race live or on tv. But at least I can say I saw some greats like Schumi, mika not J. vill or alonso, their heads seem to have grown bigger ever since they were crown world champ

You can't be serious. Raikkonen the greatest? Are you high on something?
f1tony2003 2 years ago
well i never saw senna race
GOTMAXPOWER5433460 2 years ago
That's the problem lol. Kimi is very talented, but Senna was from another planet. There is no comparison. What happened to Kimi in 08 never happened to Senna during his career. He never had to watch a teammate compete for a championship. He was ALWAYS ahead of every teammate he has ever had, except when he and Prost teamed together, and there was little between the two. Kimi is not even in the same league with these guys.

i only started watching f1 in 2003 Montoya had the talent to become a f1 legend but he made to many mistakes
GOTMAXPOWER5433460 2 years ago 2
True but I watched Montoya during the CART days (before the downfall of American open wheel). He showed the potential there. Its just life, he did well in F1 and he's an awesome driver. I really hoped Juan would beat Kimi at Mclaren but I'm a fan of both.

The Grandmaster at work. He was truly 'magic'.
His exceptional qualities were noticed right away by every acknowledgeable person in motorsports.

Amazing lap, just a second slower than Montoya's 2005 pole lap and the bus stop chicane 3 years ago was a little more open than the one from 1991.
7UpJordan 3 years ago 5
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
He overtook 4 cars in his fastest lap, there was dust in the track before the bus-stop - he couldn´t see nothing ahead, n even thus he got the pole! MAGIC SENNA!!!!
