To those of you that were trying to figure out whether its talking about Harun the brother of Musa (A) or not. It IS talking about the prophet Harun (A). The prophet Muhammad (S) stated that the jews used to put a lot of importance in the lineage of a person and by them seeing her with a child out of wedlock they were trying to say she had disgraced her family lineage. Love this surah, how each ayah ends with ''iyya'' but then changes at ayah 34 when Allah is narrating something else, about Jesus, so automatically you realise the change must be for something important if it was 'iyya' up untill all the way to 34 then it stops.

Surat Maryam 19 : verses 16-35

1. WEsent her OUR spirit.

2. (WE wish) to appoint him as a sign unto men and a Mercy from US.': it is a matter (so) decreed.

@sajchery : In Arabic, when you say "We" or "Us ", it is a plural of respect. if you were an Arabic speaker you wouldn't have asked that question, because in arabic there are two types or plurals, one of numbers and one of respect.

God tells us in the Quran: "Say he is the ONE and ONLY, ......"

"We" is a plural of respect. To Allah belongs all the respect. Therefore, it is referring to Allah only.

Yes, during the time of Jesus pbuh, he was the way to truth. Now Mohammad pbuh came, he is the way to light and truth. The way to Allah, the Heavenly Father of yours.

Beautiful recitation.. And just to be clear, Aaron the brother of Moses was the first in the line of Israelite priesthood. Mary and her cousin Elisabeth (mother of Yahya) came of a priestly family, and were therefore, "sisters of Aaron" or daughters of 'Imran (who was Aaron's father). Also the voice under the date palm tree was that of Angel Jibreel (Gabriel AS).

Maryam was not the literal sister of Harun. They belong to the same tribe and was equaled to Harun because of piety and righteousness. Just like Muhammad(pbuh) "All prophets are brothers. Their mothers are different but their religion is one." Also when Maryam was called sister of Harun is was a statement of shock that Maryam coming from such a holy lineage could do such a thing like having a child with no husband.

the mufassirin had differed in the meaning of 'ukht' in this ayah. (1) it is as what mentioned by IslamAnswerback, that is the brother of Musa, ie she is from Harun as lineage (2) It referred to another pious person in her kaum (family) whose name is also Harun. The most rajih is the latter, that is it refers to another person in her kaum of her time as mentioned in one of the hadith of the prophet saw. (see Tafsir ibn kathir and Tabari)
