it's a great quality for both still and video. If your specific purpose is to shoot video, I would recommend you to buy a video cam. It's a compromise in both still and vid, but a nice one indeed.

a camera with 25x zoom or more with 2x digital zoom that is motor driven, cmos sensor, 1020 HD video and RAW in this price range will be the perfect camera ... they can add any other features they want but those by themselves along with image stabilization of course, will make for a massive selling camera.

the HX1 needs more zoom and RAW

the sx1is needs more zoom, is expensive and lacks features but has a Cmos sensor and and RAW

The Fuju HS10 has manual zoom which is disgusting but awesome features

The sx30 IS has much better zoom than this but uses ccd sensor instead of cmos so pic quality and video quality isnt as good... needs RAW

The first brand that gets all these things right on one camera will have massive sales.

i have this camera, the auto mode takes decent pictures (i've noticed this is a couple new PaS sony camera) but if oyu know how to the the P, S, or M mode, pictures come out great.

How long can this camera record videos in one stint? lets say memory is not an issue (I have 32 gigs), how long can I record videos? Does it stop every 10 minutes then you have to press the record button again? Or does it record continuously until you ran out of memory? Thanks in advance!

Only thing is, you can't use your 32GB mem with this one coz it supports only up to 16GB. Which will let you record a total of about 175mins of video in highest resolution/quality. That should be enough tho!

I personally own this cam too one year now and can only say I cant wait to take it with me in vacation this year!! I'll film the sh*t out my sweet little beauty :)

With my 16GB Memory Stick, I can take take fine quality (1440 X 1080) HD video for 175 minutes, it is not good for continuous shoothing though, it only can record upto 30 minutes at a time.

Beautiful video! One of the best examples of what the HX-1 cam do for video. Also goes to show that full 1920X1080p is not necessary. 1440X1080p (or even 720p for me) is fine.
