Easy, just watch the games. Majority of Ovechkin's assists are no more than shots on goal that teammates then put the rebound home. He's getting better at using his teammates this year though, since teams play him to shoot instead of pass more often than not. It's like how teams played Crosby to pass, and then he decided to not pass up any open shots. Just the evolution of elite players in the NHL. Same can be said for Gretzky too
